Barkbusters BHG-086 handguard mounting kit for Suzuki V-Strom DL250, DL1050 and DL1050XT

The BHG-086 is the mounting structure that Barkbusters designs for the handlebars of the Suzuki V-Strom DL250 from 2017 and the DL1050 and DL1050XT from 2020. Two heat-treated aluminum bars, side-specific frame clamps, hardware and handlebar weights: the handguard remains secured at two points, at the handlebar end and on the straight section.

The structure and plastics are two separate products

This is the point that generates the most returns for this brand: the protective plastics are not included in this package. The structure is motorcycle-specific, while the plastics are chosen separately and remain interchangeable on the same base, even later and in another color.

EGO plastics have a dedicated structure and cannot be mounted on this base.

The handlebar weights are included here

This does not apply to all Barkbusters codes, so it is worth pointing out: the official parts list for the BHG-086 includes two handlebar weights with internal expanders, conical nuts and spacers. They replace the original Suzuki weights, which must be removed. You do not need to buy anything else to close off the end of the handlebar.

Impact protection

Barkbusters distinguishes between two configurations and never combines them: the dual-point mounting is intended for impact protection, while the single-point mounting is only for wind and weather protection. This kit uses two mounting points, with a wraparound heat-treated aluminum bar.

Compatible models

Compatibility declared by Barkbusters for motorcycles in their original factory configuration. Aftermarket handlebars may have different diameters and thicknesses: verify the mounting before purchase.

If you have a V-Strom, check the model

Suzuki has used different handlebars throughout the V-Strom family, and the kit changes accordingly.

Installation

The official instructions INS-BHG-086-NP are attached to this product page and included in the package. There is one preparation step worth knowing beforehand: remove the original V-Strom handlebar weight by loosening the screw by approximately three turns, tapping the head to release the internal expander, then pulling out the assembly with an up-and-down motion.

Then position the clamp without tightening it, attach the bar to the handlebar end and the clamp, bring the bar into a horizontal position and tighten it in the specified order. Specified torque settings: 10 Nm for the M6 screws and 28 Nm for the M8 screws, using medium-strength threadlocker and checking again after the first 50 km.
