Everything you need to know before ordering

Compatibility, included items, installation, and documents: below is every detail verified against the official Barkbusters documentation.

Description Barkbusters STORM STM-003 extended-coverage handguard plastics

The STM-003 is the pair of protective plastic shells from Barkbusters' STORM series, the one with the most extensive coverage in the range. It mounts onto a structure already installed on the motorcycle: it is the way to renew a system after a crash or a season of bad weather, or to change its color.

It is not a complete handguard. The package contains the two plastic shells, two support saddles, and six screws. The mounting structure is a separate item: if you do not have one yet, choose the specific mounting kit for your motorcycle or a universal kit.

Protection from wind and cold

That is the reason the STORM series exists. The shell is more enveloping than those of the VPS and JET and covers a larger area of the hand: Barkbusters states that it was designed to provide excellent protection from wind and cold, and recommends it for road, cruiser, naked, adventure, and scooter motorcycles. If your problem is cold hands on the highway in winter, this is the right plastic shell.

Declared compatibility

Application Compatibility
Barkbusters aluminum structures (BHG, BLG, universal) Compatible
Barkbusters single-point mounts Compatible
EGO structure Not compatible

The second row is the STM-003's distinctive feature: it is the only replacement plastic shell that the manufacturer also declares suitable for single-point applications, as well as for aluminum structures. The official instructions indeed show two separate mounting diagrams, with different hardware in the two cases.

Plastic shell compatibility depends on the structure they are mounted onto, not on the motorcycle model. Barkbusters states its compatibility for vehicles in their original factory configuration.

The saddles the other series do not have

Along with the plastic shells, you get two support saddles: shaped plates that fit between the plastic shell and the structure and distribute the tightening force, instead of transferring it all to the hole. They are included, and are a component not provided with the VPS and JET series.

Colors

Two: black and white.

What is NOT included

  • The mounting structure or single-point mount, which must be purchased separately.
  • The adjustable wind deflector, which is a feature of the VPS series and not the STORM series.

Why buy it from Endurrad

Free shipping in Italy on orders over €100 and in Europe on orders over €250, returns within 14 days, and support in Italian before and after purchase. If you are unsure about the structure you have installed, contact us before ordering.

Why choose it
  • Prodotto in Australia.
Who is it recommended for

Assembly and documents

How does it work, in detail?

  • Two mounting configurations provided by the manufacturer: on an aluminum frame or with a single-point attachment, using different hardware.
The most extensive coverage in the range

The most extensive coverage in the range

275 mm long by 140 mm high: it is the largest plastic guard in the Barkbusters range. For comparison, the VPS measures 250 by 105 mm and the JET 245 by 110. The shell is also more enveloping, and the manufacturer states that it is designed for excellent protection from wind and cold: it is the choice for road riding and the cold season.

FAQs

For more information, see our FAQ of frequently asked questions.

Do the STM-003 plastics include the mounting structure?

No. The STM-003 is only the pair of protective plastic covers, with saddles and screws to attach them. The structure they are mounted on is a separate item and must be purchased separately.

Which Barkbusters frames do they mount on?

On all Barkbusters aluminum frames, with the sole exception of the EGO frame, which has its own mount.

Do they also fit single-point handguards?

Yes, and that is the difference compared with other replacement plastics: Barkbusters states that the STM-003 is also compatible with single-point applications. The instructions show two different mounting diagrams, one for the aluminum structure and one for the single-point mount, with different fasteners.

What exactly is included in the package?

Two STORM plastics, one right and one left, two support saddles, four pan-head screws, and two self-tapping screws.

What are saddles and what are they used for?

They are two shaped plates placed between the plastic and the frame, distributing the clamping force instead of concentrating it on the hole alone. They are included in the package: the STORM series includes them, while the other replacement plastics do not.

What is the difference between STORM, VPS, and JET?

STORM has the most extensive coverage of the three and is designed to protect against wind and cold: it's the choice for road and winter use. VPS adds a deflector adjustable to two heights. JET has the most compact profile and allows more airflow, for off-road use.

Are the screws included, or do I need to reuse the ones I already have?

They are included, along with the two saddles. There is no need to reuse anything from the previous set. However, the hardware to use differs depending on whether you are mounting it on an aluminum frame or a single-point attachment: the instructions indicate which part is not used in each case.

Can I choose the height at which to mount them?

Partially: the manufacturer provides optional mounting positions on the plastic, so there is some room for adjustment relative to the frame.

What colors are they available in?

Colors: black and white. The STORM series does not have the wide color gamut of the VPS and JET series.

Are they suitable for winter use?

That’s why they exist. Barkbusters states that the STORM series is designed for excellent protection from wind and cold, and recommends it for street bikes, cruisers, naked bikes, adventure bikes, and scooters.

Do I need to recheck the tightening after installation?

Yes. Barkbusters asks you to check the tightness of all screws again after the first 50 km and recommends using a medium-strength threadlocker on all fasteners.

Can I install them if I have an aftermarket handlebar?

The plastics attach to the frame or the single-point mount, not the handlebar: the handlebar concerns the choice of frame, not the choice of plastics.
