Description Barkbusters CARBON BCF-003 carbon fiber handguard plastics

The BCF-003 is the pair of protective plastic guards from Barkbusters' CARBON series, made of genuine hand-laminated carbon fiber. They mount onto the frame you already have on your motorcycle: they are a standalone item, not a complete handguard.

The frame is not included. The package contains the two plastic guards and the screws for attaching them. If you're starting from scratch, first choose the mounting kit for your motorcycle or a universal kit.

A style choice, presented as such

Barkbusters presents the CARBON series as offering style and wind protection, and recommends it for street bikes, cruisers, naked bikes, touring bikes, adventure bikes, and scooters. The finish is a UV-stabilized gloss resin, chosen to resist the yellowing that is a typical defect of carbon components exposed to sunlight.

The manufacturer does not recommend it for off-road use. They state this explicitly, and it is worth repeating: against branches and gravel, the high-impact-resistant plastic used in the VPS, JET, and STORM series performs better and costs less. CARBON is for those who want carbon on their road bike.

Le istruzioni ufficiali INS-BCF-003 sono allegate a questa scheda.

  1. Con la struttura già montata sul manubrio, smonta le plastiche esistenti.
  2. Posiziona le plastiche in carbonio facendo coincidere i fori con quelli della struttura.
  3. Fissa con le viti fornite, serrando senza forzare: la fibra non deve risultare in tensione.
  4. Controlla il funzionamento di gas, freno anteriore, frizione e interruttore di arresto prima di partire.
  5. Ricontrolla il serraggio dopo i primi 50 km.

Frenafiletti di media resistenza su tutti i fissaggi. Per la pulizia usa acqua e detergente neutro: i solventi attaccano la resina superficiale. Il produttore considera il montaggio dei paramani un intervento rilevante per la sicurezza, da affidare a un tecnico se non hai dimestichezza.

Barkbusters advises against using the CARBON series off-road, and states this on the official product page. If your motorcycle encounters branches, gravel, and falls, the right guards are the high-impact-resistant VPS, JET, or STORM models. CARBON is for the road, and for those who want it to be seen.

Is the mounting structure included?

No. The BCF-003 is only the pair of carbon-fiber panels, with the screws to attach them. The aluminum structure or single-point mount onto which they are installed are separate items.

What structures are they mounted on?

On all Barkbusters aluminum frames except the EGO, and also on single-point mounts such as the STM-001, STM-002, STM-005, and STM-007.

Are they suitable for off-road driving?

No, and the manufacturer says so: Barkbusters explicitly advises against using the CARBON series off-road. The fiber is light and attractive, but against branches and gravel, the high-impact-resistant plastic used in the VPS, JET, and STORM series performs better.

Is it genuine carbon fiber or an imitation?

It is real carbon fiber, hand-laminated. It is not a film or a carbon-fiber-effect print: the manufacturer states this in the product's official description.

Does carbon fiber turn yellow in the sun?

The finish is a glossy, UV-stabilized resin, chosen specifically to resist yellowing. This is a typical weak point of carbon components exposed to sunlight, and here the manufacturer addresses it at the source.

What will I find in the package?

Two carbon fiber plastic pieces, one right and one left, and the screws to attach them to the structure.

Do they protect as well as regular plastics?

The manufacturer describes the CARBON series as a choice for style and wind protection, and advises against using it off-road. Those seeking maximum impact resistance will find better options in the STORM, VPS, or JET plastics, which also cost less.

Can I mount them on my EGO structure?

No. The EGO frame has its own mount and only accepts EGO-203 plastics. It is the only exception in the range, and applies to all series: VPS, JET, STORM and CARBON.

Do they fit single-point handguards?

Yes. The manufacturer also states that they are compatible with single-point applications, including STORM clamp-on and bar-end handguards.

How do I clean them?

Like a painted hull: water, neutral detergent, and a soft cloth. Avoid solvents and harsh products, which damage the surface resin.

I don't have any handguards yet: what should I buy?

You need two items: these plastic parts and a frame. Choose the specific mounting kit for your motorcycle or a universal kit, then add the BCF-003. If you’re unsure which kit you need, contact us with the make, model, and year.

Do I need to recheck the tightening after installation?

Yes. Barkbusters asks you to check the tightness of all screws again after the first 50 km and recommends using a medium-strength threadlocker on all fasteners.
