Barkbusters BHG-114 handguard mounting kit for Suzuki V-Strom 800DE from 2023

The BHG-114 is the Barkbusters mounting kit designed for the handlebars of the Suzuki V-Strom 800DE from 2023 onward. It is the structure onto which Barkbusters plastics are mounted: on its own, it protects levers and hands from impacts; with the plastics installed, it adds protection from wind, cold, and branches.

Protection and use

Barkbusters clearly distinguishes between the two mounting configurations, and the two-point configuration, anchored both at the end and at the center of the handlebar, is the one the manufacturer specifies for impact protection. On the 800DE, the V-Strom designed for off-road use, this means keeping the brake and clutch levers safe from falls, stones, and branches.

Materials and construction

Heat-treated aluminum bars (manufacturer code BAR-V-060), CS-03 split clamps with CP5 connector. The manufacturer does not state the finish or the kit's weight, so we do not report them.

Compatibility

Do you have a V-Strom 800, 800RE, or 800SE? For the road versions from 2024 onward, Barkbusters specifies the BHG-122.

Barkbusters states compatibility for motorcycles in original factory configuration. Mounting on aftermarket handlebars must be checked before purchase.

Installation

Remove the original handguards, if present, and the stock handlebar weights. Preassemble the end components and fit the clamp without tightening it: the three machined rings inside the split clamps must be aligned with one another and face toward the center of the motorcycle. Attach the bar at the end and to the connector, preferably horizontal when viewed from the side, and tighten in the specified order: M10 end bolt, bar-to-connector bolt, bolt securing the connector between the split clamps, and bolt closing the clamp around the tube. The nut fits into its recess and does not need to be held with a wrench.

Specified torque values: 10 Nm for the M6 bolts, 28 Nm for the M8 bolts, 32 Nm for the M10 bolt, and 21 Nm for the handlebar weight, using medium-strength threadlocker and checking again after the first 50 km. Leave approximately 3 mm of clearance between the throttle grip and the handguard. Barkbusters recommends having the kit installed by a workshop.

• Protective plastics. The kit consists of the structure only: the plastics must be purchased separately from those listed by the manufacturer.
• Threadlocker and tools.

• JET-003: compact profile, for dirt roads and mixed use.
• VPS-003: two-position adjustable deflector, for touring. It is being discontinued, and the price list indicates the VPS-203 as its replacement.
• STM-003, STORM series: more extensive coverage, for the colder months.
• BCF-003, CARBON series: made of carbon fiber.
