Semi-rigid panniers for the CFMOTO 800MT and 800MT-X: a guide to the LOBOO Wanderer
The two versions look similar but do not have the same rear mounting provisions, and the difference is worth €299. All declared technical data, the correct configuration, and the check to perform before ordering.
In summary. The LOBOO Wanderer semi-rigid panniers are compatible with both the CFMOTO 800MT and the CFMOTO 800MT-X, in the 40+30 L configuration (code BCB4030TBK). The 40+40 configuration is not compatible with these motorcycles.
The CFMOTO 800MT comes from the factory with LOBOO side racks: on this motorcycle, the Wanderer panniers mount directly onto the racks already fitted, with no additional purchases. Cost: €981.00.
The CFMOTO 800MT-X does not have factory-fitted racks and requires the dedicated LOBOO JP603B racks at €299.00. Total cost: €1,280.00.
Before ordering, check which of the two versions you have. It is the most common ordering mistake with this motorcycle.
The real problem for anyone traveling with an 800MT
The CFMOTO 800MT invites you to travel: smooth low-end torque, comfortable ergonomics, and sufficient range. The point at which the project always becomes more complicated is when you have to decide how to carry your luggage.
There is no shortage of options, but almost all online guides treat the 800MT and 800MT-X as if they were the same motorcycle. They are not, at least as far as the rear is concerned: the racks are different, and the codes for the pannier racks are not interchangeable.
This guide provides a detailed analysis of the LOBOO Wanderer semi-rigid panniers, explains which configuration is required for each version, and reports all technical data declared by the manufacturer, without rounding. All accessories for the CFMOTO 800MT and the 800MT-X are collected in their respective collections.
800MT or 800MT-X: the difference that changes the total
This is where mistakes happen most often, because the two models have almost identical names but different rear mounting provisions.
| Model | Factory-fitted racks | What is needed for the Wanderer panniers | Configuration | Rack code | Total cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| CFMOTO 800MT | Yes, factory-fitted LOBOO side racks | Panniers only | 40+30 L | Already present | 981,00 € |
| CFMOTO 800MT-X | No | Panniers plus dedicated LOBOO racks | 40+30 L | JP603B | 1.280,00 € |

How to identify your version in thirty seconds. Look at the rear of the motorcycle: if you already find two tubular structures with quick-release mounts on the sides of the tail section, you have an 800MT with factory-fitted LOBOO racks and only need the panniers. If there is nothing on the sides, you have an 800MT-X and need to add the JP603B racks. If in doubt, the registration document gives the exact designation.
The Wanderer panniers mounted on a CFMOTO 800MT Explore
The following images were provided by Fabio De Florio, an Endurrad customer, who installed the Wanderer panniers on his CFMOTO 800MT Explore and shared them along with the review he left on the product page. They are published with his permission.

He describes the panniers as «sturdy, well-finished, lightweight yet highly durable», with simple installation and enough internal capacity for medium- to long-distance trips.

Why choose semi-rigid panniers for the CFMOTO 800MT
The semi-rigid pannier is not a lower-quality compromise between a rigid pannier and a soft bag: it is a third category, with its own rationale.
The semi-rigid shell deforms and returns to shape. In a low-speed fall, by far the most common type of incident in motorcycle touring and on unpaved roads, an aluminum pannier becomes permanently dented and, in a major impact, can deform to the point where it no longer opens. A TPU structure with reinforcement panels absorbs the impact and recovers its shape: the contents are less well protected than they would be by aluminum, but the pannier remains usable.
Empty weight matters more than you might think. The Wanderer panniers weigh 5.9 kg for the 40 L pannier and 5.8 kg for the 30 L pannier. This is weight the bike always carries, even on trips when the panniers are empty, and on mid-displacement adventure bikes it affects low-speed handling more than the load itself.
Modularity changes the way you travel. A semi-rigid shell with MOLLE panels and removable inner bags lets you reorganize your load every evening, something a rigid pannier with a fixed capacity cannot do.
The downside needs to be mentioned. Aluminum protects the contents better in the event of a heavy impact, is harder to cut, and has a perception of solidity that many motorcyclists appreciate. Those who ride challenging off-road routes or often leave their bike unattended in high-risk environments have valid reasons to prefer it. You can find both families in the pannier section.
LOBOO Wanderer: what they are
The LOBOO Wanderer is a pair of semi-rigid side cases designed for adventure and touring motorcycles. They sit at the top end of the LOBOO catalog, above the soft bags and alongside the aluminum Pike Tracker cases.
The body is made of TPU bonded to nylon and Hypalon, with aluminum alloy components and reinforcement panels on the bottom and corners, the areas most exposed during real-world use. The closure is a patented magnetic roll-top, replacing traditional zippers and straps. The protection rating declared by the manufacturer is IPX6.
The set is sold complete with two 20-liter waterproof bags for dual use, which can serve as internal organizers or be attached on top of the cases for additional volume. The same cases are also available for the Yamaha Ténéré 700 and other adventure motorcycles, always paired with the LOBOO racks from the corresponding family.

Why the 40+30 fits the CFMOTO and not the 40+40
The Wanderer is available in two sizes in the catalog, but for these motorcycles there is only one choice. It is worth understanding why, because the reason is structural, not commercial.
The 40+30 configuration is asymmetrical for a precise reason: the exhaust terminal runs along the right side. A more compact right case leaves the necessary space and prevents the motorcycle from becoming wider on the side where the overall width is already greater. The difference is noticeable in narrow passages and traffic. The only thing to remember when loading is the orientation: the bulkier luggage goes on the left.
The 40+40 configuration is symmetrical and is paired with the Pike Tracker 40/40 frames, designed for motorcycles with a different rear geometry. It is not compatible with the CFMOTO 800MT or 800MT-X, either with the standard 800MT frames or the JP603B frames of the 800MT-X.

The two 20-liter waterproof bags
They are included in the set and are not a courtesy accessory: they change how the luggage is organized, and with the 40+30 configuration they more than make up for the 10-liter difference compared with the 40+40.
Internal use. Each bag works as a waterproof container inside the case. The most useful application is separating dry items from wet ones: at the end of a rainy stage, soaked rain gear goes in the bag and does not contaminate the rest of the luggage.
External use. The bags can be secured on top of the cases with quick-release straps, bringing the total capacity to 110 liters. This is the configuration to use for stages where extra capacity is needed, not as a permanent setup.
A note about weight distribution. Loads mounted on top of the cases sit high and far back. Clothing, a lightweight tent, and a sleeping mat are suitable: anything bulky but lightweight. Tools, spare parts, liquids, and dense items should be placed low and as close as possible to the motorcycle's axis, that is, at the bottom of the cases and toward the inside.
IPX6 waterproofing: what it really means
IPX6 is a protection rating defined by the IEC 60529 standard. The letter X indicates that protection against dust has not been classified; 6 indicates resistance to powerful water jets from any direction.
In practice, an IPX6 product is designed to withstand heavy, prolonged rain, powerful splashes from the road surface, and washing with a water jet at moderate pressure. IPX6 is not an immersion rating: LOBOO documentation specifies that use while immersed is not intended. Deep crossings, submerged cases, or using a pressure washer at close range fall outside the scope of the certification.
The practical benefit for motorcycle touring is that the IPX6 rating is achieved with the roll-top closure and TPU fabric, without rain covers to fit under the rain and without seals that compress and age. It remains good practice to roll the roll-top correctly for the specified number of turns: watertightness depends on closing it properly.
Materials, MOLLE, roll-top, and anti-theft system
Materials and construction
The manufacturer states that the construction uses TPU, nylon, and Hypalon, with aluminum alloy components. TPU is a thermoplastic polyurethane used for abrasion resistance and flexibility even at low temperatures: it is the material used for the case body. Nylon forms the supporting textile layer. Hypalon is a synthetic elastomer used in reinforcements and high-stress areas, valued in the marine industry for its resistance to weather and UV rays.
The technical specifications also indicate the presence of structural panels and reinforcements, as well as corner protectors. Aluminum alloy components are used in the attachment system and hardware.
The MOLLE system
MOLLE (Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment) is an attachment standard developed for military use: a grid of webbing sewn at regular intervals onto which accessories with compatible tabs can be secured. On the external panels of the Wanderer cases, it allows you to add pouches, bottle holders, or tool holders without drilling or modifying the case. On the road, the practical benefit is that frequently accessed items remain within reach without opening the main case.
An honest clarification: MOLLE is an attachment standard, not a universal guarantee of compatibility. Generic accessories advertised as compatible have different tolerances. For certainty, refer to accessories from the same LOBOO range.
Magnetic roll-top
The closure rolls up and attaches magnetically in a single motion, even while wearing gloves. It is the kind of detail you appreciate on the third day of a trip, when loading and unloading is repeated several times a day. Compared with a zipper, the roll-top eliminates the component most prone to wear and water ingress, and requires no periodic lubrication.
Anti-theft system and unified key
The Wanderer cases feature a programmable locking cylinder, designed for the LOBOO unified key system: with the reference key number, side cases, a top case, and other LOBOO products can be operated with a single key.
It is important to define its scope correctly: it is a deterrent, not an anti-theft system. A semi-rigid case can be cut open. The keyed lock discourages opportunistic removal during a stop and prevents the case from being detached from the frame, which is its main function. Valuable luggage should not be left unattended on the motorcycle, regardless of the type of case.

Semi-rigid or aluminum: how do you really choose?
Let's start with what this comparison is not: a question of price. On the 800MT, the two lines cost almost the same, and on the 800MT-X there is a difference, but it is not the deciding factor.
| Motorcycle | 40+30 semi-rigid Wanderer | Pike Tracker aluminum kit | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| CFMOTO 800MT | €981.00 (frames already present) | €972.40 (JP601B frames included) | Essentially equal |
| CFMOTO 800MT-X | €1,280.00 (with JP603B frames) | €972.40 (JP603B frames included) | Aluminum less €307.60 |

What really decides the choice:
- In a fall. Aluminum protects the contents better, but it dents permanently and, in a serious impact, can deform to the point that it can no longer be opened. A semi-rigid case absorbs the impact, deforms, and returns to shape: it rarely remains unusable.
- Against your leg. An aluminum edge in a low-speed fall is more aggressive than a TPU side panel. This matters especially if you ride off-road alone.
- Volume. The aluminum kit offers 65 L in total. The 40+30 Wanderer offer 70 L, which becomes 110 L with the bags mounted externally.
- When empty. The Wanderer are listed at 5.9 and 5.8 kg per case. That is weight you carry with you all the time, even when the cases are empty.
- Waterproofing. Aluminum with a gasket keeps water out well as long as the gasket is intact. The Wanderer's IPX6-rated roll-top has no gaskets to replace.
- Modularity. The MOLLE system and included 20 L bags let you reorganize your load every day. With aluminum, the volume is fixed.
- Theft protection. Aluminum is harder to cut. Both lines are equipped for key locking.
There is no one-size-fits-all answer. If you mainly travel on asphalt and gravel roads and want flexible loading options, the Wanderer are the more coherent choice. If you ride challenging off-road terrain and want maximum protection for the contents, choose aluminum. And if you have the 800MT-X, know that the aluminum option with frames included also costs less.
How to organize the Wanderer for a trip
The principle that always applies: weight low down, weight close to the motorcycle's axle, and weight balanced between the two sides. With the 40+30 configuration, the left case naturally tends to carry more: compensating for the difference by moving dense items to the right improves the motorcycle's behavior in corners and under braking.
Weekend, two days. One case for clothing, one for everything else. The 20 L bags stay inside: one for clean clothes, one for dirty clothes. The rain cover goes on top, always accessible without emptying the case.
Multi-day trip, five or ten stages. 40 L left case: clothing organized in one bag. 30 L right case: personal kit, electronics, documents, shoes. Tools, puncture repair kit, and any liquids at the bottom of the right case, toward the inside. The bags stay inside as long as there is enough capacity.
Adventure trip with camping gear. Here, the second bag goes outside using the quick-release straps: tent or sleeping mat on top of the case, meaning bulky and lightweight gear. The compressed sleeping bag can take up the bottom of one case. Tools always stay at the bottom.
In all cases. The rain cover should be placed somewhere accessible without removing half the luggage, because the moment you need it is always the moment when there is the least time. The external MOLLE pouches are the right place for things used several times a day.
Maximum load, fasteners, and the Highway Code
Three points that apply to any side case and are rarely written down.
- Maximum load per side frame. CFMOTO specifies a limit in the motorcycle's owner's manual, and it includes the case and everything you put inside it. This is the constraint that really matters, more than capacity in liters. The Wanderer cases are not approved as safety devices.
- Fasteners. Check the fasteners again after the first 100-200 km: the structure settles. With off-road use, vibrations put more stress on the fasteners than kilometers on asphalt, so it is best to repeat the check periodically.
- Size and visibility. The load must not cover the license plate or rear lights, or protrude beyond the limits set by the Highway Code. This is especially important when you mount the 20 L bags externally.
Why the Wanderer cases are interesting for those traveling with a CFMOTO 800MT
- Real, modular capacity: 70 liters in the cases, up to 110 with the bags mounted externally.
- Complete set: two 20 L waterproof bags included in the price, not sold separately.
- IPX6-rated waterproofing achieved with a roll-top closure and TPU fabric, with no rain covers to fit in the rain.
- MOLLE modularity: accessories and pouches attach without drilling the cases.
- Integration with the LOBOO system: key can be keyed alike with the rest of the range, and racks belong to the same family.
- Quick release: load and unload daily without tools.
- Nothing else is needed on the 800MT: the racks are already on the motorcycle.
They are the choice for those seeking modularity and variable volume rather than maximum protection for the contents, and for those who alternate between asphalt and unpaved roads without wanting to choose between durability and lightness.
Frequently asked questions
Are the LOBOO Wanderer cases compatible with the CFMOTO 800MT?
Yes, in the 40+30 L configuration. The CFMOTO 800MT comes from the factory with side racks made by LOBOO, which is an official CFMOTO accessories supplier, and the Wanderer cases mount directly onto those racks without any additional purchases. This is the only documented exception to the general rule that Wanderer cases require dedicated LOBOO side racks and are not compatible with the original racks of other motorcycles.
Are the Wanderer cases compatible with the CFMOTO 800MT-X?
Yes, but not directly. The 800MT-X does not have standard side racks, and its rear subframe differs from that of the 800MT. The LOBOO JP603B racks, designed for the MT-X, are required; they accept the Wanderer cases in the 40+30 L configuration.
Is the 40+40 configuration suitable for the CFMOTO 800MT?
No. On the CFMOTO 800MT and 800MT-X, only the 40+30 L configuration, code BCB4030TBK, should be installed. The 40+40 configuration is symmetrical and is paired with the Pike Tracker 40/40 racks, designed for motorcycles with different rear geometry. Both configurations cost the same, so there is no financial advantage to seeking the 40+40 configuration for these motorcycles.
Are additional racks needed for the CFMOTO 800MT?
No, if you install the Wanderer cases: the LOBOO racks are already on the motorcycle. You need the JP601B racks instead if you want to install the aluminum Pike Tracker cases, because each LOBOO case family works with its own rack system, and the standard racks do not accept them.
Which racks are needed for the CFMOTO 800MT-X?
The steel LOBOO JP603B racks mount to the manufacturer's designated mounting points without drilling or adapters. They cost €299.00 and support both the aluminum Pike Tracker cases and the 40+30 L semi-rigid Wanderer cases. Pay attention to the code: the 800MT requires the JP601B, and the two racks are not interchangeable.
What is the difference between the JP601B and JP603B racks?
These are LOBOO side racks for two different motorcycles: JP601B for the CFMOTO 800MT, JP603B for the CFMOTO 800MT-X. Despite the visual similarity between the two models, the rear racks are different and the codes are not interchangeable. This is the most common ordering mistake for this motorcycle.
How much does a complete set for the 800MT-X cost?
The 40+30 semi-rigid Wanderers cost €981.00 plus €299.00 for JP603B frames, for a total of €1,280.00. The aluminum Pike Tracker kit with the frames already included costs €972.40 in the Silver/Black finish and €1,039.40 in all-black. On the 800MT-X, therefore, the complete aluminum setup costs less than the semi-rigid one.
How many liters do the LOBOO Wanderers have on the CFMOTO 800MT?
In the 40+30 L configuration, the pair provides 70 liters: 40 in the left pannier and 30 in the right, which is narrower to leave room for the exhaust. The two included 20 L waterproof bags are added to this, bringing the total capacity to 110 liters when they are secured externally.
Are the LOBOO Wanderers waterproof?
The manufacturer states an IPX6 rating, achieved through the magnetic roll-top closure and TPU fabric. This protection is designed for heavy, prolonged rain and strong splashes, without requiring pannier covers. It is not intended for use under immersion.
What does IPX6 mean?
IPX6 is a protection rating under the IEC 60529 standard. The X indicates that protection against dust has not been classified; the 6 indicates resistance to powerful water jets from any direction. In practice, it covers heavy rain and washing with a moderately pressurized jet, but not immersion or deep water crossings.
How much do the Wanderer panniers weigh?
The 40 L pannier weighs approximately 5.9 kg and the 30 L pannier approximately 5.8 kg. Each 20 L waterproof bag adds approximately 1 kg. These are empty weights and must be considered when calculating the maximum side-frame load specified by CFMOTO in the motorcycle's manual.
What are the Wanderer's dimensions?
The stated approximate dimensions are 450 × 270 × 400 mm for the pannier and 400 × 200 × 250 mm for the 20 L inner bag. The manufacturer does not state the motorcycle's overall width with the panniers mounted, which varies depending on the frame and model.
Are the 20 L waterproof bags included?
Yes, the set includes two 20-liter waterproof bags with dual use. They can be used as waterproof organizers inside the panniers, which are useful for separating dry clothing from wet clothing, or secured on top of the panniers with quick-release straps to add capacity.
What is the MOLLE system used for?
MOLLE is a grid-based attachment standard that lets you secure pouches, bottle holders, and small accessories to the panniers' outer panels without drilling or modifying them. When traveling, it keeps items used several times a day within reach without opening the main pannier.
Can I use the same key for the other LOBOO panniers?
Yes. The locking cylinder is designed for LOBOO's unified key coding: by providing the reference key number, the side panniers, top case and other products in the range can be operated with a single key.
Are they suitable for Adventure trips?
The semi-rigid shell absorbs vibrations and impacts typical of light off-road riding and regains its shape after a low-speed fall, whereas aluminum becomes permanently dented. For demanding off-road riding where protecting the contents is the priority, the aluminum Pike Tracker panniers remain the most protective alternative. The Wanderer panniers prioritize modularity and variable volume.
Are rigid or semi-rigid panniers better for the CFMOTO 800MT?
It depends on how you use them, not on the price: on the 800MT, the two lines cost almost the same. The semi-rigid panniers are lighter, deform and return to their original shape, offer MOLLE modularity and expandable volume with the included bags. The rigid aluminum panniers protect the contents better and are more difficult to force open, but they become permanently dented and have a fixed volume.
