BMW S 1000 XR: specifications, pros and cons, compatible accessories

The RR's four-cylinder engine with high handlebars: the BMW that devours motorways
It comes from the superbike and retains its engine, but with an upright riding position, long-travel suspension and chassis built for fast road riding. It is not an enduro and does not pretend to be one: here, the accessories that matter are for fast touring, not off-road riding.

Who it is recommended for
It is the right bike if
- You do a lot of motorway riding and want to arrive sooner, not more comfortably
- You are looking for the S 1000 RR engine with a sustainable riding position
- You travel two-up on asphalt, with panniers and a top case
- You want a fast bike that weighs less than a maxi enduro with comparable performance
- You are interested in an extensive range of ergonomic and luggage options
Look elsewhere if
- You ride even on packed dirt: 17-inch wheels and low fairings rule it out
- Four-cylinder vibrations bother you on long rides
- You want low fuel consumption while maintaining a brisk pace
- You are looking for frame sliders or engine-case protectors: these are not available in the catalog for this bike
- You do not want to deal with the chain
In short: this is the BMW for riders who cover fast miles on asphalt and do not want to give up the superbike engine. If your rides also include dirt roads, an R 1250 GS covers both; if you are looking for pure comfort over long distances, the R 1200 RT offers more protection and requires less effort.

Frequently asked questions
Which stand plate do I need for my XR?
The one in the catalog is for the generation from 2021 onward. On earlier models, the stand foot is different and does not fit: check the registration year before ordering.
Do you have frame sliders for the S 1000 XR?
No, and it's worth saying that right away for this bike. Frame sliders and engine cover protectors are not in the catalog. What you can find is another type of bodywork protection: pre-cut clear films and non-slip stickers, which protect against stones and scratches but not against the impact of a fall.
Does the R 1250 GS riser also fit the XR?
Yes, it's the same 30 mm code valid for the R 1200 GS, R 1250 GS, and S 1000 XR. It's one of the few accessories shared across two different families.
How do I choose the right film?
By year. There is one version for model years 2015-2018 and another from 2020 onward, because the bodywork was redesigned: the shapes are not interchangeable. There is also a film designed only for 2020-2024 side cases.
Can it be used for two-up touring?
Yes, and that's its best terrain. With side cases, a top case, and a riser, it becomes a fast touring bike: the only limitation is fuel consumption when keeping the engine revving high.
Can it be ridden on light off-road terrain?
Better not. 17-inch wheels, road-oriented suspension, and low fairings make it unsuitable even for packed dirt. For that, you need a GS.
