In brief. In 2026, the best-selling adventure motorcycle in Europe is the BMW R 1300 GS, ranked first in Germany, France, and the United Kingdom. But in Italy it is preceded by the Africa Twin, while in Spain first place goes to a Chinese motorcycle, the Voge DS 800 Rally.

Why it should matter to you. Accessory manufacturers follow sales volumes: where motorcycles sell, dedicated brackets, racks, and guards emerge. This ranking tells you in advance whether your motorcycle will have a made-to-measure catalog or whether you will have to think in terms of diameters and mounting centers.

Reliability. Positions 1–20 are based on published registration data. Positions 21–50 are estimated.

A sales ranking viewed by an accessory seller

Market rankings are usually read to find out who won. Here, they serve another purpose: understanding which motorcycles the accessory industry will invest in over the next eighteen months.

The mechanism is simple, and we see it working every season. When a model surpasses a certain level of popularity, accessory manufacturers develop parts that bolt onto the frame: kickstand plates, radiator guards, luggage racks, and dedicated auxiliary-light brackets. Below that threshold, universal parts remain the option; they work, but you need to know what you are measuring.

In 2026, volumes shifted considerably, and this is already changing where dedicated accessories exist and where they do not.

The European top 10

Registration data from January to August 2026, aggregated from the five main markets.

# Model Segment Where it matters most
1 BMW R 1300 GS Maxi adventure 1st in Germany, France, and the United Kingdom
2 Voge DS 800 Rally Adventure media 1st in Spain, 4,380 units
3 Honda XL750 Transalp Adventure media 3rd in Italy, 2,481 units
4 Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin Maxi adventure 1st in Italy, 2,654 units
5 BMW R 1300 GS Adventure Maxi adventure 1st in the United Kingdom above 125cc
6 Yamaha Ténéré 700 Adventure off-road 4th in Italy, 1,927 units
7 Voge 900 DSX Maxi adventure 2nd in Spain, 2,687 units
8 Honda NC750X Road adventure 8th in Italy, 5th in the United Kingdom
9 Voge 625 DSX A2 adventure 10th in Italy, 1,550 units
10 CFMoto 450MT A2 adventure 5th in Italy, 1,838 units

Four Chinese motorcycles in the top ten. In 2023, there were none.

In Spain, the best-selling motorcycle is Chinese

Voge DS 800 Rally in yellow livery, the best-selling adventure bike in Spain in 2026
Voge DS 800 Rally: 4,380 registrations in Spain in the first eight months of 2026.

Not the best-selling adventure bike. The best-selling motorcycle overall, excluding scooters: in the overall Spanish ranking, the DS 800 Rally is preceded only by 125cc scooters.

It is not an isolated case. Through August, 33,489 trail bikes were registered in Spain, 39.1% more than in 2025, and seven of the top ten are from Chinese brands. The segment now accounts for 38.8% of all geared motorcycles sold in the country: more than one in three motorcycles.

For those who need to equip their motorcycle, the problem is very concrete. These motorcycles have best-seller numbers but their dedicated catalog is still limited: for an DS 800 Rally or a 900 DSX, the specific bracket often does not exist, and the choice is made based on dimensions.

In Italy, the Africa Twin beats the GS by 37 motorcycles

Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin, first in Italy's 2026 adventure motorcycle ranking
Africa Twin 2,654 units, R 1300 GS 2,617. Eight months, with a margin of thirty-seven motorcycles.

Thirty-seven motorcycles after eight months is a margin that says nothing about the next quarter: the duel will be decided in December.

The truly telling figure is another one. Among the top twenty positions in the Italian ranking are twelve adventure bikes, three naked bikes, one classic, and no sport bikes. The benchmark motorcycle in Italy is no longer the middleweight naked, and this happened in less than five years.

A curiosity about August. In Italy's overall August ranking, including scooters, only two motorcycles make the top 30: the R 1300 GS in twenty-fifth place with 135 units and the Transalp in twenty-seventh with 118. In August, Italy buys scooters, and motorcyclists wait for September.

The A2 segment is growing the fastest

White and blue CFMoto 450MT, twin-cylinder adventure bike for A2 licence holders
CFMoto 450MT: fifth best-selling motorcycle in Italy, ahead of the MT-07 and NC750X.

CFMoto 450MT fifth in Italy, Voge 625 DSX tenth, Himalayan 452 seventh in the United Kingdom among bikes over 125 cc, Rieju Rally 307 third in Spain. A group of motorcycles that did not exist in these numbers ten years ago.

Those who buy them are almost always buying their first accessory ever, and the order in which they buy is always the same: luggage, engine protection, phone mount. They are also the bikes on which purchase mistakes are most common, because the owner has not yet learned to look at dimensions instead of the model name.

Crossovers sell, and no one talks about them

Black Yamaha Tracer 9, three-cylinder road crossover
Tracer 9: ninth in Italy with 1,664 units, ahead of half of the prestigious adventure bikes.

Tracer 9 ranks ninth in Italy with 1,664 units, F 900 XR twenty-first with 961, and Versys 650 twenty-second with 948. None of these is a strictly defined adventure bike, and all three are fitted with exactly the same accessories: soft luggage, auxiliary lights, smartphone mounts, and engine guards.

If you ride a crossover, the fact that an accessory is catalogued as «adventure» doesn't concern you. What matters is the attachment point, and on that you're all in the same boat.

The complete ranking: 50 models

How to read it. Positions 1 to 20 are supported by registration data that has been published and can be verified individually. Positions 21 to 50 are a reasoned estimate: below twentieth place, model-level data is no longer publicly available in all five countries, so the order has been reconstructed by cross-referencing partial national top-10 lists, category shares, and brand rankings.

If your motorcycle has a dedicated catalog

Suzuki V-Strom 800 DE fitted with engine guard bars and panniers, three-quarter view
When the accessory is developed for the model, compatibility isn’t in question: it bolts onto the holes that are already there.

Eleven models in this ranking have a selection on Endurrad with compatibility already verified, model by model and year by year.

If it doesn’t have one, start with three measurements

That’s the case for most of the motorcycles that have entered the rankings over the past two years, with Chinese brands leading the way. Three numbers solve most purchasing decisions.

  • Engine guard bar diameter — 22, 25, 28, or 32 mm. This determines soft side bags, auxiliary light mounts, and crash bars.
  • Handlebar diameter — same principle. It determines phone holders, GPS bars, and any clamp-on mount.
  • Anchoring points on the sides of the tail — if present, soft rear luggage can be fitted to any motorcycle without a luggage rack.
What measurements can’t solve. Accessories that bolt onto threaded holes in the frame or engine — kickstand plates, radiator guards, pannier frames — are specific to the model and year. No measurement can help with those: they either exist or they don’t.

Luggage is the first purchase, whatever the motorcycle

Pair of semi-rigid side panniers for adventure motorcycles, 40 and 30 liters
It applies equally to a Ténéré 700 and a Voge 900 DSX: what changes is where it attaches.

It’s also the purchase people get wrong most often, because they look at volume instead of how they travel. Two guides settle the choice: how many liters a motorcycle tail bag really needs and how to choose semi-rigid panniers and soft luggage.

Frequently asked questions

Which adventure motorcycle is the best-selling in Europe in 2026?

The BMW R 1300 GS, first in Germany, France, and the United Kingdom and second in Italy during the first eight months of 2026. In Spain, however, first place goes to the Voge DS 800 Rally, with 4,380 registrations through August.

Is there an official European ranking of adventure motorcycles?

No. ACEM publishes market totals by country and category, not model rankings. Model rankings are national: ANCMA/UNRAE in Italy, ANESDOR in Spain, KBA in Germany, AAA Data in France, and MCIA in the United Kingdom. Any European model ranking is an aggregation of these sources.

Why are Chinese motorcycles ranking so high in sales?

Because they offer displacement, electronics, and an adventure image at a price that in Europe was typical of a lower category. In Spain, where the sales network is more developed, seven of the ten best-selling trail bikes through August 2026 are from Chinese brands.

Which adventure bikes are suitable for an A2 license?

In the rankings: CFMoto 450MT, KTM 390 Adventure, Royal Enfield Himalayan 452, Honda NX500, Voge 625 DSX and 525 DSX, Rieju Rally 307, Benelli TRK 502 X, and the new BMW F 450 GS. Several higher-displacement models, such as the Ténéré 700 and Transalp, are also available in a restricted-power version.

Are adventure accessories interchangeable between different models?

Those that attach to a crash bar or handlebar do, because they are determined by the tube diameter. Those that attach to threaded holes in the frame or engine do not: stand plates, radiator guards, and pannier racks are specific to the model and year.

My motorcycle is recent and I can’t find dedicated accessories. What should I do?

Measure the diameter of the crash bar and handlebar, and check whether there are mounting points on the sides of the tail. These three details cover most luggage, auxiliary lighting, and mounts.

Can’t find your motorcycle among those with a dedicated catalog?

Tell us the make, model, and year: we’ll tell you what actually fits and which measurements are needed before you order.
