Barkbusters BHG-089 handguard mounting kit for Ducati Multistrada V4, CFMoto 800MT, and 450MT, black

The BHG-089-BK is the Barkbusters mounting kit designed for the handlebar of the Ducati Multistrada V4, V4S and V4S Sport from 2021 and six CFMoto models: 800MT Sport, Touring, Explore and 800MT-X, 450MT and 450IBEX. The bars and brackets are black powder-coated. This is the structure onto which Barkbusters plastics are mounted: on its own, it protects levers and hands from impacts; with the plastics, it adds protection from wind, cold and branches.

It is also available in unpainted aluminum. The BHG-089-NP has the same contents, compatibility and plastics: only the finish differs.

Protection and use

Barkbusters clearly distinguishes between the two mounting configurations, and the two-point configuration, anchored both at the end and in the center of the handlebar, is the one the manufacturer specifies for impact protection. On a touring crossover such as the Multistrada V4 or 800MT, this means protecting the brake and clutch levers from stationary falls, stones and branches, both on gravel roads and during long transfers.

Materials and construction

Heat-treated aluminum bars (manufacturer's code BAR-BV-036) and brackets with CFS20-L-BK and CFS20-R-BK clamps, black powder-coated. Barkbusters does not state the kit's weight, so we do not report it.

Compatibility

* The 450IBEX is listed on the official kit page but not in the installation instructions, which mention only the 450MT. If you have a 450IBEX, contact us before ordering. The Multistrada V4 Rally, V4 RS and Pikes Peak are not included in the manufacturer's list.

Barkbusters states this compatibility for motorcycles in original factory configuration. Aftermarket handlebars have different diameters and thicknesses: the mounting must be verified before purchase.

Do you have another Multistrada? Earlier generations use the original Ducati handguard and have dedicated protectors: BLG-019 for the V2 and V2S from 2022 to 2024, BLG-016 for the 950 from 2019, the 1200 from 2015 and the 1260.

Installation

Remove the original handguards and handlebar weights. Mount the bracket on the handlebar without tightening it, secure the bar at the end and to the bracket, preferably in a horizontal position when viewed from the side, and tighten in the order specified by the manufacturer. The specified torque for the M6 bolts is 10 Nm. For the M8 bolts, the PDF for this version specifies 28 Nm, but one edition of the instructions for the same aluminum kit specifies 20 Nm: follow the value in the instruction sheet included in the package. Use medium-strength threadlocker and check the tightness after the first 50 km.

• Ducati, left side: you may need to move the clutch lever switchgear 2-3 mm outward. With the clutch fully pulled in, there must be at least 2-3 mm between the inner end of the lever and the bracket.
• CFMoto 800MT: the spacers are reversed, with the 7 mm spacer on the right and the 10 mm spacer on the left.
• All models: leave at least 2-3 mm between the bar end weight and the throttle grip; with the steering fully turned, the brackets must not touch the tank nor the bar the windshield; the mirrors must remain visible.

• Protective plastics. The kit is the structure only: the plastics are purchased separately and selected from those specified by the manufacturer for this code.
• Threadlocker and tools.

• JET-003: compact profile, for enduro and mixed use.
• VPS-003: two-position adjustable deflector, for adventure and touring. It is being discontinued, and the price list indicates the VPS-203 as its replacement.
• STM-003, STORM series: more extensive coverage, for road use and colder months.
• BCF-003, CARBON series: made of carbon fiber.
