In brief
The best motorcycle navigation app depends on how you use your bike, but there’s one rule that applies to almost all of them: turn-by-turn voice navigation is paid. calimoto, Kurviger, Scenic, REVER, and MyRoute-app include it in their premium plans, which cost from €29.99 to €59.99 per year. Google Maps and Waze offer it for free, but in Italy they don’t have a proper motorcycle mode and don’t seek out curvy roads.
Free apps with curvy routes, GPX, and offline maps include OsmAnd (very technical), Liberty Rider (free navigation, paid safety features), and the Endurrad app, ours: a sat nav with voice guidance, Fast, Curvy, and Very Curvy routes, GPX, offline maps, route weather, and CarPlay, free for users who sign in with an account. It’s now fully available in Italy, and Android Auto is coming soon. Below, you’ll find a table, prices, the limitations of each app, and which one to choose based on how you ride.
Almost all motorcycle apps charge for the voice that tells you where to turn
Downloading a motorcycle app is free. Using it as a sat nav, meaning turn-by-turn voice directions while you ride, often isn’t. That’s the first thing to know, because many online rankings say “free” when they’re only talking about the route planner.
What’s behind “free” motorcycle apps
With Scenic and REVER’s free plans, the route is there, but you follow it by sight as a line on the map, without voice guidance. On calimoto and Kurviger, turn-by-turn navigation is reserved for Premium and Tourer+. That’s not unfair: it’s the business model for almost all niche apps. But it changes the cost. If you need a proper sat nav, compare the annual price of the plan with voice guidance, not the download.
Eleven motorcycle navigation apps compared, with prices and features for 2026
For each app, we checked the official source: website, help center, or Italian App Store listing. Where a detail isn’t stated, we say so instead of guessing.

Motorcycle-specific apps: what they do well and where they ask you to pay
Each entry answers three questions: who it’s for, what’s free, and what it costs. Ratings are from the Italian App Store as of today.
calimoto: the best-known app for finding twisty roads
German, with a “curve-finding” algorithm and a large community. The free version lets you plan, record rides, and import GPX files; turn-by-turn navigation, offline maps, GPX export, speed cameras, and road closures are Premium (€59.99 per year at list price, or a €39.99 Season Pass for three months with no automatic renewal). It supports CarPlay and, since May 2026, Android Auto, still in its first version. OpenStreetMap data. Italian App Store: 4.5 stars from 967 ratings.
Who it’s for: riders who mostly head out on weekends to seek out winding roads and are happy to pay for a subscription.
Kurviger: the queen of twisty-road planning
It started as a web-based planner, which is still its main strength, with three winding-road settings and precise control over exclusions. Two plans: Tourer (€14.99 per year) improves planning only, while Tourer+ (€29.99 per year or €6.99 per month) adds voice navigation, offline maps, and ride recording. CarPlay has limited features; Android Auto has been stable since 2025. Italian App Store: 4.5 stars from 451 ratings.
Who it’s for: riders who plan their routes on a computer the night before and want the best value among subscription apps.
Scenic: polished, with “Curvy” and “Beauty” routes
Highly rated on iPhone. With the free plan, you follow the route as a line on the map; turn-by-turn navigation and advanced route modes are Premium (€59.90 per year, €14.90 per month). Speed cameras use SCDB data, and weather is available via the “Weather on the Way” app. Italy App Store: 4.6 stars from 340 ratings.
Who it’s for: iPhone users who want a polished touring app, even if it means paying.
REVER: social features and LiveRIDE for those back home
Strongly focused on community and sharing rides. Recording rides and adding friends to the map are free; voice navigation, winding routes, offline maps, weather and LiveRIDE (live location sharing with family) are Pro features, at €29.99 per year. The official FAQs say there’s no Android Auto support and CarPlay hasn’t been optimized for some time. Italy App Store: 4.6 stars from 438 ratings.
Who it’s for: people who travel in groups or want someone at home to follow them live.
MyRoute-app: the tool for serious route planners
The most comprehensive web planner, popular with people who prepare roadbooks for motorcycle clubs and organized tours, with full GPX import and export. Navigation is available in the Navigation Next plan (from €4.95 per month or €129 for a lifetime subscription), which also includes offline maps, CarPlay and Android Auto. With the Gold plan, you can choose from OpenStreetMap, TomTom, HERE and Google maps. Italy App Store: 4.6 stars from 270 ratings.
Who it’s for: people who organize rides for others and do a lot of work on their computer.
OsmAnd: free and incredibly powerful, but takes some learning
Free offline voice navigation using OpenStreetMap, full GPX support and tracking: a lot for zero euros. The trade-off is complexity. There’s no true curvy-route navigation (just a motorcycle profile you can enable), the free version limits downloads to 5 maps, and CarPlay and Android Auto are paid features (Maps+ is €69.99 one-time or Pro is €39.99 per year). Italy App Store: 4.6 stars from around 2,500 ratings.
Who it’s for: tinkerers who often ride out of coverage, perhaps off-road.
Liberty Rider and Cardo Ride: safety and group rides
Liberty Rider offers free navigation, a “Fun” route mode, roadbooks and location sharing; Premium (€3.99 per month) adds crash detection with an emergency call, dangerous-curve alerts and weather along the route. CarPlay arrived in October 2026. Cardo Ride, formerly Riser, focuses on social features and GroupRide; “Super Curvy” routes, GPX export and offline maps are PRO features, at €59.99 per year.
2026 updates to keep an eye on
Sygic launched Motorbike Mode in March 2026, with scenic routes, elevation profiles and weather, and will bring it to CarPlay and Android Auto in July 2026. We don’t list the price because the source doesn’t specify it. TomTom, meanwhile, discontinued GO Ride in 2024 and recommends the free TomTom AmiGO app as an alternative, although TomTom itself says it isn’t designed for motorcycles.
Google Maps and Waze are good for getting there, not for having fun
They’re free, up to date and know traffic better than anyone. But they calculate routes as if you were driving a car, and neither has a true motorcycle mode in Italy.
- Need to reach an address in the city or on the highway
- Need real-time traffic
- Want CarPlay and Android Auto without paying
- Ride to work every day
- Find curvy roads
- Follow a motorcycle club’s GPX track
- A roadbook or a profile designed for motorcycles in Italy
- Plan for gravel roads and mountain passes like a motorcycle app
Waze’s motorcycle mode exists, but not here
On July 13, 2026, Google announced a new Motorcycle mode for Waze, with routes tailored to two-wheelers and alerts for potholes and speed bumps. At launch, it’s available in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru and the Philippines, but not Italy. Waze’s old “Motorcycle” vehicle type in settings has been around for years, but mainly changes travel time estimates. Google Maps’ official coverage of two-wheeler routes also doesn’t include European countries.
The L Endurrad app combines a motorcycle navigator and the right accessories, and it's free
Let’s say this upfront, for the sake of fairness: this is our app. That’s why we describe it by the same standards as other apps, including its limitations. It was created to help you find only accessories compatible with your motorcycle, and now it also has turn-by-turn navigation designed for riders. The screens you see are actual screenshots from the app.
“Where are we going?” and three route styles
Enter a destination from among Italian towns, mountain passes, mountain huts, parking lots and businesses, or tap Home or Work. L’app plots the route and lets you choose its character: Fast when you’re in a hurry, Curvy or Very Curvy when you’re not. Below, you’ll immediately see the distance and time, the “Go!” button and the option to download the route and use it offline.

While riding: everything you need, nothing more
At the top, the maneuver sign shows the distance, street name and next maneuver (“then turn left”); on the right, the speedometer. At the bottom, a bar shows weather, arrival time, kilometers remaining, elevation and direction. Endurrad’s voice tells you where to turn and recalculates if you take the wrong road; the speed limit and alerts for fixed speed cameras and Tutor are active in Italy, and the edge of the screen flashes when there’s a hazard. It also works with the screen off, and only in the navigator can you rotate your phone to landscape.
- Automatic tulip-style roadbook: maneuvers and alerts taken from OpenStreetMap, such as gates, fords, bridges, railroad crossings, and scenic viewpoints, with a resettable trip odometer.
- Points of interest along the way: accommodations, gas stations, repair shops, and tire shops, with the option to add a stop while you ride.
- Maps by Stadia Maps based on OpenStreetMap data, with the Endurrad map style.
- Ride mostly in Italy and want twisty roads without subscriptions
- Need GPX, offline maps, and weather along your route
- Have an iPhone and a CarPlay display like the JADO S6
- Want to keep your motorcycle, accessories, service dates, and rides all in one app
- Full navigation abroad: Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia, Croatia, and France are coming soon
- Android Auto: in development
- Maps and navigation without signing in
- Real-time traffic like Google Maps and Waze
With the Endurrad app, you design the ride: 25 stops, curves, and gradients all under control
“Create route” is the part that riders who plan their Sunday ride on Saturday night love. It all works on your phone, without needing a computer.
- Add stops. Start from “My location,” search for a place, or tap the map: you can add up to 25 stops and reorder them with the arrows.
- Choose your style. Fast, Curvy, or Lots of curves, then decide whether to avoid highways and tolls and whether to include unpaved sections.
- Check the stats. The L app shows you the distance, duration, meters climbed and descended, and number of stops.
- Read the elevation profile. See the minimum and maximum elevation, maximum gradient, and sections over 10% highlighted in orange: useful if you’re traveling with a heavy load or with a passenger.
- Save or go. The route is saved to your routes, or tap “Start now.” The draft stays saved for 24 hours.

GPX, ready-made routes, and offline maps
In the Routes section, you’ll also find itineraries prepared by the Endurrad team, with the region, duration, percentage of unpaved roads, and roadbook notes. You can also import GPX tracks using “Open with…” from Mail or WhatsApp, and export them whenever you like: the navigator follows them faithfully, even where route calculation wouldn’t recreate them exactly.
For offline use, you have two options. Download the areas where you usually ride, up to 80 MB in 100 km tiles, or download the entire route from the start screen: for a 1,334 km trip from Sicily to Milan, the app indicates about 321 MB. Navigation still works without a connection; place search and rerouting aren’t available, so it’s best to prepare your trip over Wi-Fi.
Weather along your route and alerts
For routes over 5 km, see the weather at the points along your route and at the times you’ll be there: sky conditions, temperature, rain, and wind. While riding, the temperature is always shown in the bar at the bottom, and if the weather changes, voice alerts give you about 15 km of advance warning. In Settings, you can keep the current weather on the map even when you’re not navigating, and enable official MeteoAlarm alerts for Italy on the Home screen. Data comes from Apple Weather, and only rounded locations are sent to the server.
Five dashboards and nine motorcycle icons: the Endurrad navigator is styled to match your bike
In Driving Settings, choose the voice (Endurrad or your phone’s), alerts, and the navigator’s appearance. The dashboards are always dark, easy to read in sunlight and at night, and also work on CarPlay.
| Dashboard | Style | For |
|---|---|---|
| Pro | Default: maneuver sign showing the next turn, blue route, and a bar with weather, arrival time, remaining distance, and altitude | For those who want everything clear at a glance |
| Classic | Blue maneuver sign, round speedometer, altitude, and a panel with arrival time, journey time, and distance | For those coming from Google Maps and similar apps |
| Oro | Black with gold details, a block-style speedometer up to 300 km/h, and a trip odometer | For riders who love sporty dashboards |
| Rally | Blue, a notched speedometer, and a progress bar from start to finish | For riders with a rally spirit |
| Oran | Anthracite with an orange glow and segmented speedometer | For riders with an orange motorcycle, and more |

The motorcycle on the map is yours, too
Instead of the usual arrow, a top-down motorcycle moves across the map. You can choose from nine, including Endurrad, Tricolore, Arancio, Bianca, and Azzurra: a small detail, but on an eight-hour ride, it’s nice to watch “your” bike moving along. You can change the dashboard and icon whenever you like, even halfway through a trip.
On CarPlay, the Endurrad navigator becomes your handlebar dashboard
Endurrad is an Apple-approved CarPlay navigation app: it works on your car’s screen and on CarPlay motorcycle displays like the JADO S6, while your phone stays safely in your pocket.
What you do from the display
Voice search, nearby points of interest such as gas stations, alternative routes, roadbook, speed cameras, and weather just like on your phone, with the same five dashboards. With Siri, just say «take me home with Endurrad», and if you start navigation from the display, it continues on your phone too.

And then there's the part other apps don't have
Take a photo of your motorcycle and the app recognizes it, saves it in the Garage, and shows you only compatible accessories. The Garage knows what you've already installed, while the Motorcycle Logbook keeps track of servicing, inspection, insurance, and road tax, with a reminder before each expires. And «Prepare your trip» puts together a kit for a weekend, long trip, or off-road ride with a single tap. For every route, the app also tells you which accessories you'll need and whether you already have them. Get 5% off your first order through the app (minimum €100).

All the features, one by one, are on the page dedicated to the Endurrad app for iPhone and Android.
The right choice depends on how much you navigate and where
There is no single best app. The right one is the one that costs the right amount for how you use it. Here's our assessment, profile by profile.
| How you use your motorcycle | What you really need | Apps to try |
|---|---|---|
| Commuting | Traffic, reliable arrival, no costs | Google Maps or Waze |
| Weekend rides in Italy | Twisty roads, voice guidance, weather, no subscription | Endurrad app, Liberty Rider |
| Meticulous planning on a computer | Web planner, exclusions, adjustable twistiness | Kurviger Tourer+, MyRoute-app |
| Long trips abroad | European coverage, offline use, GPX | Kurviger, calimoto, MyRoute-app |
| Off-road and areas without signal | Reliable offline use, GPX tracks, detailed maps | OsmAnd, Endurrad app (in Italy) |
| Group rides | Riding buddies' locations, sharing | REVER, Cardo Ride, calimoto Group Rides |
| CarPlay display on the handlebars | Full CarPlay app, simple controls | Endurrad app, calimoto, Kurviger |
Our practical recommendation
Before subscribing, try the free version on a ride you know by heart. That way, you can quickly tell whether the app takes you where you expect, whether the voice comes through clearly in your intercom, and whether the screen is readable in sunlight. Most motorcycle apps offer a trial of the premium plan: use it on the right weekend, not during a rainy week.
L'app counts, but the phone on the handlebars matters more
The best app in the world is useless if the screen shuts down in the heat, the battery dies halfway through the day, or the mount vibrates so much that it ruins the camera. Three solutions, ordered by price.
- Anti-vibration mount and charging. The most affordable option: a mount with a damper, preferably with charging, and the phone you already own. You'll find 72 mounts in the motorcycle phone mount collection; the complete guide is in the article on how to choose a motorcycle phone mount.
- Stable power supply. GPS, an active screen and mobile data drain the battery in a few hours. A USB-C socket connected to the motorcycle's electrical system solves the problem: we've explained how much current you really need.
- Dedicated CarPlay display. The phone stays protected in your pocket, while the app runs on a motorcycle screen that's easy to read in sunlight and waterproof. It's the most convenient setup for frequent travelers.

Five mistakes that turn a navigation app into a problem
We see them every season, even among experienced motorcyclists. None of these depends on which app you choose.
- Setting off without offline maps. Coverage disappears precisely on the mountain passes and in the most beautiful valleys. Download the areas the night before over Wi-Fi.
- Relying on your phone's battery. With GPS and the screen on, it won't last all day. Connect your phone to the motorcycle's electrical system or use a powered display.
- Mounting your iPhone on the handlebars without a vibration damper. On a large adventure bike, vibrations can damage the camera: Apple says so, not some forum.
- Trusting “Lots of Curves” blindly. Algorithms can choose narrow, damaged, or unpaved roads. Check the route on the map before setting off, especially with a passenger and luggage.
- Looking at the screen instead of the road. Set up voice guidance in your intercom and keep the display low, near the instrument panel: a quick glance, not a read.
Frequently asked questions about motorcycle navigation apps
What is the best navigation app for motorcycles?
It depends on how you use it. For curves with a subscription, calimoto and Kurviger are excellent; for planning on a computer, MyRoute-app; for group rides, REVER. Without a subscription, Liberty Rider and the Endurrad app offer voice navigation and curvy routes, with the latter offering comprehensive coverage in Italy. OsmAnd is free and very powerful, but more technical.
Is there a free navigation app for motorcycles?
Yes. Google Maps and Waze are free but not designed for motorcycles. Among motorcycle apps, OsmAnd, Liberty Rider, and the Endurrad app offer free voice navigation. The latter includes Fast, Curvy, and Lots of Curves routes, GPX, and offline maps for users who sign in with an account. On calimoto, Kurviger, Scenic, and REVER, turn-by-turn voice navigation is part of the paid plan.
Does Google Maps have a motorcycle mode in Italy?
No. Google's official coverage of two-wheeler routes includes countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America, but none in Europe. Google Maps therefore calculates routes as it would for a car and doesn't look for curvy roads.
Does Waze have a motorcycle mode?
On July 13, 2026, Waze announced a new Motorcycle mode with motorcycle-specific routes and alerts, available at launch only in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru and the Philippines. In Italy, only the old “Motorcycle” vehicle type is available, which mainly changes time estimates.
How much does calimoto Premium cost?
The price listed on the Italian App Store is €59.99 a year, with a 14-day free trial for the annual plan. There's also a Season Pass for €39.99, valid for three months with no automatic renewal. Discounts are often available.
What's the difference between Kurviger Tourer and Tourer+?
Tourer (€14.99 a year) adds planning features, such as winding-road ratings by section and advanced exclusions. Tourer+ (€29.99 a year) includes everything in Tourer, plus in-app voice navigation, offline maps and ride recording. You need Tourer+ to use Kurviger for navigation.
Which motorcycle app finds roads with the most curves?
Apps with genuine curvy-road routing include calimoto, Kurviger, Scenic, REVER, MyRoute-app, Cardo Ride and the Endurrad app, which offers Curvy and Extra Curvy routes and tells you how many curves are ahead. Google Maps, Waze and OsmAnd don't have a dedicated feature.
Can I follow a GPX track with the app?
Yes, with calimoto (free import), Kurviger, MyRoute-app, OsmAnd, REVER and the Endurrad app, which can import and export GPX files from other apps too and follows the track faithfully. Google Maps and Waze don't navigate GPX tracks. Exporting is paid on some apps.
Which motorcycle navigation apps work offline?
OsmAnd for free (up to 5 maps), calimoto with Premium, Kurviger with Tourer+, REVER with Pro, MyRoute-app with Navigation Next, and the Endurrad app for free, by downloading areas up to 80 MB or the entire route. Offline, searching for places and rerouting generally don't work.
Which motorcycle apps work with CarPlay and Android Auto?
CarPlay is supported by calimoto, Kurviger, Scenic, MyRoute-app, Liberty Rider, Cardo Ride, Google Maps, Waze, OsmAnd (paid) and the Endurrad app. Android Auto is supported by calimoto, Kurviger, MyRoute-app, Google Maps, Waze and OsmAnd; REVER doesn't support it, and it's in development for the Endurrad app.
Is the L Endurrad app a motorcycle navigation app?
Yes. In addition to showing you only accessories compatible with your motorcycle, it offers turn-by-turn voice navigation, Fast, Curvy and Extra Curvy routes, route creation with up to 25 stops and an elevation profile, five dashboards to choose from, warnings for fixed speed cameras and Tutor speed enforcement systems in Italy, tulip roadbooks, GPX, offline maps, weather along the route and CarPlay. It's free for anyone who signs in with an Endurrad account.
Does the LEndurrad app work abroad?
Navigation is now comprehensive in Italy: place search, speed cameras and Tutor speed enforcement are designed for Italian roads. Full coverage of Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia, Croatia and France, followed by Germany and Spain, is among the upcoming updates. For a trip abroad today, it's a good idea to pair it with an app that has European coverage.
Can motorcycle vibrations damage your smartphone?
They can. Apple warns that high-amplitude vibrations from large-displacement engines can damage the optical stabilization and autofocus systems in iPhone cameras. If you use your phone as a navigator, mount it on a vibration-damping mount, or use a CarPlay display and keep your phone in your pocket.
Is an app on your phone or a dedicated navigator better?
For rides in Italy and road trips, an app on a good mount or a CarPlay display is enough and costs less. A dedicated navigator is still more reliable for long trips outside coverage and for those who often follow GPX tracks off-road, because it doesn't depend on the phone's battery or signal.
