Maximus MX2-45 lithium — two-seat electric moped, removable lithium battery

Two-seater electric scooter at 45 km/h: what is required to use it in Italy

  • A 45 km/h, an electric scooter is legally classified as a moped: in Italy, an AM licence is required, obtainable from age 14, and a license plate, registration certificate and third-party liability insurance are mandatory. It has nothing in common with electric scooters, which are governed by their own rules. The Maximus MX2-45 features a 3,000 W rear hub motor and a 60 V, 32.5 Ah lithium battery, equivalent to 1.95 kWh, removable from beneath the seat and rechargeable from a standard household outlet. The claimed range is approximately 85 km. The seat is type-approved for two people, with a maximum load capacity of 165 kg. In terms of running costs: 1.95 kWh at €0.25/kWh costs €0.49 per full charge, rising to approximately €0.57 at the outlet when charger losses are taken into account. Based on the claimed 85 km range, that is less than €0.70 per 100 km. Dimensions to know before purchasing: 2,140 mm in length, 116 kg in weight and a seat height of 820 mm from the ground. Endurrad, a brand of Migliori Service S.R.L., delivers throughout Italy within 7–10 working days using its own vehicles: the vehicle arrives assembled and ready to use, complete with all certifications and a 24-month legal guarantee of conformity.

Description Rolektro Maximus MX2-45 Lithium | Electric moped 45 km/h

The Maximus MX2-45 lithium is a two-wheeled electric moped approved for road use: top speed 45 km/h, 3,000 W motor in the rear hub, declared range of approximately 85 km, payload 165 kg, and approved for two people. It can be ridden with an AM license, obtainable at 14 years old, and requires a license plate, registration certificate, and RCA insurance like any moped.

13-inch wheels and real suspension

Telescopic fork at the front, two shock absorbers at the rear, 13-inch wheels. On an electric moped, this combination is not a given: many feature small wheels and only one shock absorber, which is noticeable on cobblestones or potholes.

The 3,000 W motor is housed in the rear wheel hub. No chain, no belt, no transmission to tension or lubricate: this is one of the reasons why maintenance for such a vehicle is reduced to tires, brakes, and battery.

Take the battery home

The 60 V and 32.5 Ah lithium battery slides out from under the seat and weighs 14 kg. You can remove it and charge it using a normal 230 V household socket: if you don't have an outlet in your garage, or you don't have a garage, it's not an issue. You can also leave it on board and charge the vehicle directly.

However, fourteen kilograms is fourteen kilograms. If you live on the third floor without a lift, factor that in before buying.

Cost of movement

The battery is 60 V and 32.5 Ah, which is 60 × 32.5 = 1,950 Wh, or 1.95 kWh. At €0.25/kWh, a full charge costs €0.49. Considering approximately 15% charger losses, the energy actually drawn from the socket is about 2.29 kWh, i.e., a real €0.57.

Based on the declared range of 85 km, this means 2.3 kWh per 100 km, or about €0.67 per 100 km at the socket. Less than a cent per kilometer.

What is needed to put it on the road in Italy

  • AM driving license, obtainable from 14 years of age. A1, A2, A, and B licenses are also valid.
  • License plate and registration certificate, through the Motorizzazione Civile (Department of Motor Vehicles) or a car registration agency.
  • Mandatory RCA insurance.
  • Helmet mandatory for driver and passenger.

The European Certificate of Conformity (CoC) is delivered with the vehicle and is the document with which registration is initiated.

Not suitable for

  • Those of short stature. The declared seat height is 820 mm. Below approximately one meter sixty-five, placing both feet on the ground when stationary becomes difficult, and on a 116 kg vehicle, that matters.
  • Short garages and parking spaces. It is 2,140 mm long: over two meters, including the windshield. Measure the space before ordering.
  • Motorways, expressways, and urban bypasses. Mopeds are prohibited. With a maximum speed of 45 km/h, they would not be a practical choice anyway.
  • Steep climbs with two people on board. The declared maximum climbable slope is 15% (8.5°), and this is a peak value, not a cruising value.
  • Those looking for ABS or combined braking. The manufacturer does not declare any. There is a disc brake at the front and a drum brake at the rear.
  • Those who need to move it manually often. One hundred and sixteen kilograms move well on the center stand on flat ground, much less so on an uphill ramp.

The rear drum brake: what it entails

There is a disc brake at the front and a drum brake at the rear. On a 45 km/h vehicle, it brakes sufficiently, and the effective part of the braking still comes from the front.

The real differences are three: the drum provides less sensitivity to the lever, so it is harder to modulate; it heats up more during repeated braking on long descents; and when the brake shoes wear out, the play must be manually adjusted, whereas a disc is self-adjusting. On this vehicle, the issue is slightly more significant than on a lightweight moped, because with a full load, the total mass reaches 281 kg: if you descend from a hilly town every day, this is something to consider.

Battery: life and replacement

The manufacturer declares 700-800 complete charging cycles and 6-8 hours for a recharge. With one recharge every two days, that's more than four years. End of life does not mean the battery stops working, but that it has lost a significant part of its initial capacity, so the range decreases.

Warranty and assistance

Legal conformity warranty of 24 months. Endurrad is the seller and your sole point of contact for assistance, spare parts, and warranty: you do not need to contact Germany.

Why choose this vehicle

Three concrete reasons, and one why you might want to give up on it.

You bring the battery indoors. It slides out from under the seat, weighs 14 kg, and recharges using a standard household outlet. If you don't have an outlet in your garage, or if you don't have a garage, you can recharge it in your apartment. This is the difference between being able to buy an electric vehicle and not being able to.

Three thousand watts and 13-inch wheels. The motor is in the rear hub, the transmission is automatic, and there's nothing to change. The large wheels and telescopic fork with two rear shock absorbers make urban potholes a minor issue compared to a moped with small wheels.

It comes standard.Windshield, lockable top case, two mirrors, anti-theft system with remote control, USB socket. These are the things you buy later, one by one, on other vehicles.

And the reason why you might want to give up on it:It's big. Two meters and fourteen centimeters long, 116 kg, 820 mm seat height. If the place where you keep it is narrow, or if you can't comfortably reach the ground with your feet, this is not the right vehicle, and no specification compensates for that.

Who is it recommended for

This is the right vehicle if:

  • You travel between 20 and 80 km per day on urban and extra-urban roads with a speed limit of up to 50 km/h.
  • You often travel with a passenger: the seat is long, the declared load capacity is 165 kg, and the passenger footrests are foldable.
  • You often park on uneven ground or cobblestones: 13-inch wheels and two rear shock absorbers significantly improve comfort.
  • You park on the street or in a courtyard without an electrical outlet: you can remove the battery and charge it indoors.
  • You also ride in winter: the windshield significantly improves comfort at 45 km/h.
  • You are at least 14 years old and have an AM driving license.

This is not the right vehicle if:

  • You are under approximately 1.65 meters tall: with a seat height of 820 mm and 116 kg to balance, it is not comfortable when stationary.
  • The place where you will keep it is shorter than 2.2 meters.
  • Your route includes highways, expressways, or ring roads: mopeds are prohibited on these.
  • You live in an area with steep inclines and almost always travel with a passenger: the declared maximum climbable gradient is 15%.
  • You don't have covered parking and the vehicle would be exposed all year round: the IP protection rating is not declared by the manufacturer, and we cannot guarantee anything on this point.
  • You are looking for ABS or combined braking.
License plate, insurance, and driver's license

In Italy, the Maximus MX2-45 is a two-wheeled moped. It is not a scooter, it is not an electric bike, and it does not fall under the rules introduced for scooters: it has a license plate and a registration certificate, just like any 50cc moped.

Driving License. An AM license is required, obtainable from 14 years of age. A1, A2, A, and B licenses are also valid.

Documents and Insurance.License plate, registration certificate, and third-party liability insurance are mandatory. Registration is initiated at the Department of Motor Vehicles (Motorizzazione Civile) or through a car practice agency, using the European Certificate of Conformity (CoC) delivered with the vehicle.

Helmet.Mandatory for the rider and any passenger.

Passenger. The vehicle is approved by the manufacturer for two people. In Italy, carrying a passenger on a moped is permitted if the seat is expressly indicated on the registration certificate and the driver is over 16 years old (Article 170, paragraph 2 of the Highway Code). However, it is forbidden to carry children under 5 years of age.

Where you can circulate.Urban and ordinary extra-urban roads. Access to motorways and main extra-urban roads is prohibited.

ZTL (Limited Traffic Zones).Electric vehicles generally enjoy more favorable access conditions to limited traffic zones, but the rule is established by the individual Municipality and changes from city to city. Check on your Municipality's website before assuming access: no seller can guarantee it.

Insurance.Endurrad does not provide insurance advice. For coverage, limits, and conditions, contact your company or an authorized intermediary.

Warranty.Legal conformity warranty of 24 months under the Consumer Code.

FAQs

For more information, see our Frequently Asked Questions ( FAQ ).

What license is required to drive the Maximus MX2-45?

An AM license, obtainable from the age of 14, is required. A1, A2, A, and B licenses are also valid: anyone who already holds one of these does not need to obtain anything else. The vehicle is a two-wheeled moped with a maximum speed of 45 km/h and therefore falls within the category covered by the AM license.

Do you need a license plate and insurance?

Yes, both. Like any moped, before riding on public roads you need a license plate, registration certificate, and third-party liability insurance. Registration is completed at the Civil Motorization Office or through a vehicle-registration agency by presenting the European Certificate of Conformity (CoC), which we provide with the vehicle. A helmet is mandatory. Endurrad does not provide insurance advice; contact your insurance company or a licensed intermediary for the policy.

How many kilometers does it really travel on a single charge?

The manufacturer states approximately 85 km and specifies that the figure depends on topography, load, and tire pressure. This is a figure recorded under favorable conditions: a flat route, a single occupant, and mild temperatures. With two people on board, frequent uphill sections, or winter temperatures, the range decreases significantly. If your daily journey exceeds 60–65 km, consider the possibility of charging at your destination.

How much does a full charge cost?

The battery is rated at 60 V and 32.5 Ah: 60 × 32.5 = 1,950 Wh, or 1.95 kWh. At €0.25/kWh, the stored energy costs €0.49. Accounting for approximately 15% charger losses, the power drawn from the outlet is about 2.29 kWh, so the actual cost is €0.57. Over the claimed 85 km, that works out to about €0.67 per 100 km, or less than one cent per kilometer.

Can I bring a passenger?

Yes. The manufacturer has approved it for two people; the stated maximum load is 165 kg, including the rider and luggage, and the passenger footrests are foldable. In Italy, carrying a passenger on a moped is permitted if the passenger seat is expressly indicated on the registration certificate and the rider is over 16 years old (Article 170, paragraph 2 of the Highway Code). Carrying children under 5 years of age is always prohibited, and helmets are mandatory for passengers as well.

I’m 1.60 m tall—can I ride it?

The stated seat height is 820 mm, which is typical of a medium-sized scooter, not a compact moped. Below about 1.65 meters, putting both feet flat on the ground when stopped becomes difficult, and with 116 kg to keep balanced, that matters during maneuvers and stops at traffic lights. It is not an absolute contraindication—many people ride on tiptoe—but it is the first thing to try in person before ordering.

How do I charge if I don’t have an outlet in my garage?

You remove the battery and take it indoors. It slides out from under the seat, has a handle and a snap connector, and weighs 14 kg. It plugs into a standard 230 V household outlet. You can also charge it while it is mounted on the vehicle if you have an outlet available. Keep the weight in mind: 14 kg is manageable, but if you live on the third floor without an elevator, it’s something you’ll do reluctantly.

How long does it take to charge, and how long does it last?

A full charge takes 6–8 hours with the supplied charger, so it is best done overnight. The manufacturer states that the battery supports 700–800 full charge cycles: charging it once every two days means more than four years. Reaching the end of its service life does not mean that the battery stops working, but that it has lost a significant portion of its original capacity, so the range gradually decreases. The battery is a replaceable part that can be removed from under the seat, without any work on the vehicle.

Where can I drive? What about in restricted traffic zones?

On ordinary urban and secondary extra-urban roads. Mopeds are prohibited from accessing motorways and main extra-urban roads, and with a top speed of 45 km/h, even a busy state road is an impractical choice. Regarding limited traffic zones: electric vehicles generally benefit from more favorable access conditions, but the rules are set by each municipality and vary from city to city. Check your municipality’s website before purchasing if access to the ZTL is the reason you are buying.

Is the rear drum brake a limitation?

In urban use, no, but it is worth knowing what changes. There is a disc at the front and a drum at the rear, which is the most common configuration in this category. Compared with a disc, a drum is harder to modulate because it provides less feedback through the lever, heats up more during repeated braking on long descents, and requires manual adjustment to compensate for slack as the brake shoes wear. On this vehicle, the issue matters somewhat more than on a lightweight moped, because the total mass reaches 281 kg when fully loaded. The manufacturer does not specify ABS or combined braking systems.

Can I use it in the rain and leave it parked outside?

It is a road-legal vehicle, so riding in the rain is considered normal use, and the windshield helps considerably. However, the manufacturer does not state an IP rating; this should be verified with the manufacturer. For this reason, we recommend not leaving it permanently exposed to the elements and, if you do not have a covered place, using a cover. This applies especially to the battery and electrical contacts: if possible, keep the battery indoors.

What warranty do I have, and whom should I contact for support?

24-month legal guarantee of conformity under the Consumer Code. The seller is Endurrad by Migliori Service S.R.L. and is your sole point of contact for warranty, service, and spare parts: you do not need to contact the manufacturer in Germany. The manufacturer is Soletek GmbH, Feldheider Straße 62, 40699 Erkrath, Germany.
