Everything you need to know before ordering
Compatibility, included items, installation, and documents: below is every detail verified against the official Barkbusters documentation.
The BHG-126 is the Barkbusters mounting structure designed around the handlebar geometry of the Yamaha MT 09 and MT 09 SP from 2021 to 2023. It is a two-point mounting kit: the aluminium bar is anchored to the handlebar end and to a clamp on the straight section, forming a continuous arch around the hand. The bar has a black powder-coated finish.
On a naked bike like the MT 09, the handguard is not meant to protect against branches: it is meant to protect against a tip-over while parked, contact during manoeuvring, and low-speed falls. These are minor situations that can cost you a lever and often the switchgear as well.
If you have an MT 09, check the year
The MT 09 uses two different kits because the handlebar changes. This is the first check to make.

Key features

Protection and use
The wraparound structure protects the brake lever, clutch lever and switchgear: it withstands the impact and distributes it across the aluminium instead of leaving the lever to take it. The plastics determine the rest: the JET remain compact, the VPS have an adjustable two-position deflector that can be removed in a few minutes, the STORM provide more coverage and are the choice for those who ride the bike in winter as well, while the CARBON are made of carbon fibre and are the combination the manufacturer shows on the MT 09 SP.

Heat-treated, black powder-coated aluminium bar, clamps, hardware and handlebar weights. The manufacturer does not provide weight and dimensions numerically, so we do not estimate them.

Barkbusters compatibility applies to the motorcycle in its original factory configuration. An aftermarket handlebar changes the diameter and wall thickness, so the mounting must be checked before purchase. Write to us with the model and year and we will check it with you.
Installation
- Make sure you have a 2021 to 2023 MT 09 or MT 09 SP with the original handlebar.
- Remove the stock handlebar weights: replace them with those supplied in the kit.
- Mount the clamp on the straight section of the handlebar, in front of the controls, without fully tightening it.
- Attach the aluminium bar to the end of the handlebar and to the clamp, then position it.
- If you have chosen the plastics, install them, align everything and tighten to the torque settings specified by the manufacturer.
- Check the throttle, front brake, clutch and free steering from lock to lock, then check the tightness again after the first 50 km.
The tightening torques and complete installation sequence are provided in the official INS-BHG-126-BK instructions, attached to this product page and supplied with the kit. The manufacturer considers handguard installation a safety-critical procedure, to be entrusted to a technician if you are not familiar with this type of work.

What is NOT included
Protective plastics, which must be ordered separately: JET-003, VPS-203, STORM STM-003 or CARBON BCF-003. EGO plastics are not compatible with this structure.

I installed the JADO S6 on my BMW GS (non-"dedicated" version), and although I don't use the BMW base, the display and features are still top notch. The night visibility is impressive, and the "X-Ray" mode, as they call it, makes evening riding much safer. The bag is of excellent quality and comes with all the necessary straps and a shoulder strap. The two methods of attaching it to the motorcycle are well designed and offer a range of options. I will also buy the larger model.
