Everything you need to know before ordering
Compatibility, included items, installation, and documents: below is every detail verified against the official Barkbusters documentation.
The BHG-068 is the Barkbusters mounting structure designed for the handlebar geometry of the Yamaha MT-07 from 2013 to 2020 and the MT-07 LA from 2014 to 2020. It is a two-point mounting kit: the aluminum bar anchors to the end of the handlebar and to a clamp on the straight section, forming a continuous arch around the hand. The bar is black powder-coated.
On a naked bike like the MT-07, handguards are not for protection against branches: they are for protection against tip-overs while parked, contact during maneuvers, and low-speed falls. Ordinary situations that cost you a lever and often the switchgear as well.
If you have an MT-07, check the year
The MT-07 uses different kits twice because the handlebar changes. This is the first check to make.
| Your MT-07 | Correct code |
|---|---|
| from 2013 to 2020 (and LA from 2014) | BHG-068, this page |
| from 2021 to 2024 | BHG-094 |
| from 2025 | BHG-129 |
Main features
- Two-point mounting: the configuration specified by the manufacturer for impact protection. The single-point setup is declared only for wind and weather protection.
- Heat-treated aluminum bar, part number BAR-BV-040, two pieces, right and left.
- Black powder-coated finish: the NP suffix in the code does not indicate the finish.
- Specified torque settings: 10 Nm for the M6 hardware, 28 Nm for the M8.
- Four compatible plastic protector sets: JET, VPS, STORM, and CARBON, interchangeable on the same structure.
- Made in Australia by Rideworx Pty Ltd, which has designed handguards since 1984.
Protection and use
The wraparound structure protects the brake lever, clutch lever, and switchgear: it withstands the impact and distributes it through the aluminum instead of leaving it to the lever. The plastic protectors determine the rest: JET stays compact, VPS has a deflector adjustable to two positions, STORM provides more coverage and is the choice for riders who use the bike in winter too, while CARBON is made from carbon fiber.
Materials and construction
Heat-treated, black powder-coated aluminum bar, dedicated clamps, connectors, and hardware. The manufacturer does not provide weight and dimensions numerically, and we do not estimate them.
We are not making any claims about the handlebar weights. The parts list in the official INS-BHG-068-00-NP instructions lists bars, clamps, connectors, and hardware, but does not mention handlebar weights; some international retailers state that they are included. We are asking the distributor for confirmation and will update this product page: if this is decisive for you, contact us before ordering.
Compatibility
| Make | Model | Years | Code |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yamaha | MT-07 | 2013-2020 | BHG-068-NP |
| Yamaha | MT-07 LA | 2014-2020 | BHG-068-NP |
Barkbusters compatibility applies to the motorcycle in its original factory configuration. With an aftermarket handlebar, diameters and thicknesses change, so the mounting must be checked before purchase.
Installation
The manufacturer expressly requires installation to be carried out by a qualified technician, as stated in the instructions for this code. This is not generic wording: on a bike without a fairing, with cables running close to the controls, steering clearance must be checked carefully.
- Make sure you have an MT-07 from 2013 to 2020 with the original handlebar.
- Clear the handlebar ends of anything fitted as standard.
- Fit the clamp onto the straight section of the handlebar, in front of the controls, without fully tightening it.
- Attach the aluminum bar to the handlebar end and to the clamp connector, then position it. The manufacturer recommends positioning the bar horizontally when viewed from the side.
- If you have chosen the plastic protectors, install them, align everything, and tighten: 10 Nm on the M6, 28 Nm on the M8, using medium-strength threadlocker.
- Check the throttle, front brake, clutch, and engine stop switch, and make sure the steering turns freely from lock to lock. Recheck the tightening after the first 50 km.
What you will find in the package
- Two heat-treated aluminum bars, black powder-coated (BAR-BV-040, right and left)
- Right and left clamps and connectors
- Complete hardware: M6 and M8 bolts, self-locking nuts
- INS-BHG-068-00-NP installation instructions
What is NOT included
Plastic protectors, which must be ordered separately: JET-003, VPS-203, STORM STM-003, or CARBON BCF-003. EGO plastic protectors are not compatible with this structure. Handlebar weights do not appear in the official parts list.
Why choose Barkbusters
Barkbusters is a Rideworx Pty Ltd brand, an Australian company that has been producing handguards since 1984. Born in enduro, it has applied the same approach to road bikes: a structure designed for the specific motorcycle, interchangeable plastic protectors chosen separately, and every component with its own replacement part number. You make the major investment once.
Why buy it from Endurrad

Before choosing
Motorcycle dry bag: why it moves and how to keep it secure
The typical complaint is not “water got in,” but “after fifty kilometers, it was crooked.” Why a soft bag crumples, what the internal plate and vent valve actually do, and the two constraints of the Highway Code that no product page mentions.

Motorcycle battery in winter: why it dies and how to keep it alive
The damage doesn’t happen in March when the motorcycle won’t start, but gradually between December and February. What is sulfation, why does almost no one use a battery maintainer, and how can it be resolved in a garage without an outlet?
