Barkbusters BHG-120 handguard mounting kit for Triumph Tiger 900 GT, GT Pro, and Rally Pro from 2024

The BHG-120 is the Barkbusters mounting kit designed for the handlebar of the Triumph Tiger 900 GT, GT Pro and Rally Pro from 2024. It is the structure onto which Barkbusters plastics are mounted: on its own, it protects levers and hands from impacts; with the plastics, it also provides protection from wind, cold and branches.

Protection and use

Barkbusters clearly distinguishes between the two mounting configurations, and the two-point configuration, anchored both at the end and in the centre of the handlebar, is the one the manufacturer specifies for impact protection. On the new Tiger 900, both on trips and off-road, this means keeping the brake and clutch levers protected from falls, stones and branches.

Materials and construction

Heat-treated aluminium bars (manufacturer code BAR-V-046, the same bar used on the BHG-083), CS-02 two-piece clamps with CP5 connector. The manufacturer does not state the finish or weight of the kit, so we do not report them.

Compatibility

Do you have a Tiger 900 from 2020 to 2023 or a Tiger 850 Sport? For these models, Barkbusters specifies the BHG-083.

Barkbusters specifies this compatibility for motorcycles in original factory configuration. Other versions of the Tiger 900 from 2024 are not included in the manufacturer's list. Aftermarket handlebars may differ in diameter, thickness and end threading: check the mounting before purchasing.

Installation

Remove the original handguards, if fitted, and the standard bar-end weights. Fit the clamp onto the handlebar without tightening it, observing the orientation of the machined rings on the two-piece shells, then secure the bar at the end and to the connector, preferably in a horizontal position when viewed from the side. Tighten the end bolt first, then the bolt joining the bar and connector, the bolt securing the connector between the two shells, and finally the bolt closing the clamp around the tube. Specified torques: 10 Nm for the M6 bolts and 28 Nm for the M8 bolts, using medium-strength threadlocker and checking the tightening after the first 50 km.

• Different sides: the two bars attach to the connector with different bolts, one M8x25 and one M8x35 with a 10 mm spacer, and the left side has one additional spacer. The PDF diagram shows where each part goes.
• End threading: the kit mounts in the handlebar's 6 mm hole using the included M6 bolts. For greater holding strength, the manufacturer recommends enlarging it to 8 mm; the M8 bolts are not included in that case.
• Throttle: leave approximately 3 mm of clearance between the throttle grip and the handguard.

• Protective plastics. The kit is the structure only: the plastics must be purchased separately from those specified by the manufacturer for this code.
• The M8 bolts for anyone who chooses to rethread the hole, threadlocker and tools.

• VPS-003: two-position adjustable deflector, for adventure and touring. It is being phased out, and the price list indicates the VPS-203 as its replacement.
