The BHG-080 is the Barkbusters mounting kit designed for the handlebars of the Triumph Scrambler 1200 XC and 1200 XE from 2019 to 2023 and the Scrambler 1200 X from 2024. It is the structure onto which Barkbusters plastics are mounted: on its own, it protects levers and hands from impacts; with the plastics, it also provides protection from wind, cold, and branches.

Protection and use

Barkbusters clearly distinguishes between the two mounting configurations, and the two-point configuration, anchored both at the end and at the center of the handlebar, is the one the manufacturer specifies for impact protection. On Scrambler 1200 models, which readily venture off the asphalt, this means keeping the brake and clutch levers protected from falls, stones, and branches.

Materials and construction

Heat-treated aluminum bars (manufacturer code BAR-V-044) and MFC-L and MFC-R multi-fit clamps. The manufacturer does not specify the finish or the kit weight, so we do not report them.

Compatibility

Do you have a Scrambler 1200 XE from 2024? For this model, Barkbusters specifies a different kit, the BHG-138.

Barkbusters specifies this compatibility for motorcycles in original factory configuration. Aftermarket handlebars have different diameters, wall thicknesses, and end threading: the mounting must be checked before purchase.

Installation

Remove the original handguards and, if fitted, the stock bar-end weights. Fit the clamp onto the handlebar without tightening it, aligning the reference marks, then secure the bar at the end and to the clamp connector and position it horizontally when viewed from the side. Tighten in the order specified by the manufacturer. Specified torques: 10 Nm for the M6 bolts and 28 Nm for the M8 bolts, using medium-strength threadlocker and checking the tightening after the first 50 km.

• End threading: the kit mounts in the handlebar's 6 mm hole using the included M6 bolts. For greater retention, the manufacturer recommends re-tapping it to 8 mm; the M8 bolts are not included in that case.
• 1200 XC only: install the four M6 washers included in the package.
• Throttle: leave approximately 3 mm of clearance between the throttle grip and the handguard.

• The M8 bolts for those who choose to re-tap the thread, threadlocker, and tools.
