In brief. The Zero XE 2027 is Zero Motorcycles’ updated lightweight electric dual sport, unveiled at EICMA 2026: new LED headlight, small windscreen, centrally mounted dashboard, black bodywork, wider dual-sport tires, and a different rear sprocket that raises the top speed to around 95 km/h. It retains the 15.5 kW peak-power motor, the removable 4.3 kWh battery, the 101 kg weight, and 21- and 18-inch wheels.
In Europe, the XE was already road-legal; the new feature for 2027 is a bike designed for road use from the outset and sold as a road model in every market, including the United States. In Italy, the XE’s current list price is 6,770 euros, and the specifications list an A1/B license; the specific price for the 2027 model year has not yet been announced. Here you’ll find the figures and their sources, real-world range, charging details, and what it means for anyone looking for an electric bike for dirt roads.
The 2027 XE becomes a road-oriented dual sport, no longer just a trail bike
Zero Motorcycles, the California-based manufacturer celebrating twenty years of electric motorcycles at EICMA 2026, unveiled the 2027 model-year XE alongside the Project Ventura prototype and the LS3 scooter.

The XE was launched in 2025 alongside the smaller XB, developed on a different platform from Zero’s road bikes: a 6061 forged aluminum frame and swingarm, a permanent-magnet motor, a 520 chain final drive, and a battery that slides out of the frame. In the United States, it was an off-road bike without a license plate; in Europe, it was already sold as a road-legal model. For 2027, Zero is bringing the road version to all markets and using the opportunity to change its character.
The changes are more substantial than stylistic. They include a new LED headlight with a small integrated windscreen, a new taillight, a dashboard moved to the center of the handlebars, and black bodywork. The tires become wider dual-sport tires, a choice that favors pavement and packed dirt over deep mud. The rear sprocket is new: according to Buck City Biker, it adds about 10 km/h to the top speed, while Electrek and InsideEVs report a slight reduction in wheel torque, without specifying a figure.

The official figures are almost all confirmed, but the 2027 spec sheet is still an estimate
The main source is the official XE page on Zero's website. Note: the U.S. 2027 spec sheet warns that the marked values are preliminary estimates that have not yet been homologated, and the Italian page shows data for the previous European version in some places.
| Item | Zero XE 2027 | Data source |
|---|---|---|
| Motor | Permanent magnets, 15.5 kW peak (about 21 hp) | Zero spec sheet (U.S. and Italy) |

| Brakes | 240 mm front and 220 mm rear discs, two-piston hydraulic calipers | Zero spec sheet |
| Wheels | 21″ and 18″ wheels, dual-sport tires (110/80-18 rear, based on official photo) | Zero spec sheet, Zero photos |
| Seat | 900 mm | Zero spec sheet |
| Weight | 101 kg | Zero spec sheet |

| Instruments | 2.4″ color TFT | Zero spec sheet |
| Protection | IP65 | Zero spec sheet |
How to read this data. Zero's U.S. spec sheet for the XE 2027 explicitly states that the marked values are preliminary estimates that have not yet been homologated. The Italian page, on the other hand, still lists a top speed of 85 km/h and images of the 2025 European XE: that's the version currently on sale, not the 2027. Wheel torque appears with two different figures in the same spec sheet (557 and 635 Nm): the second is the figure for the original XE, while the first is consistent with the “slight reduction” reported by the press after the sprocket change. Zero has not published the continuous rated power.

With 4.3 kWh, the XE is good for a half-day ride, not a journey
Listed range is measured at a constant speed of 50 km/h: it's a useful figure for comparing motorcycles, but less useful for planning a real ride.
Zero states a range of 104 km at 50 km/h in the 2027 spec sheet and 100 km in the Italian spec sheet. It's an honest figure in terms of methodology, because the test speed is specified, but it's also the most favorable case. Off-road, with frequent acceleration, climbs, and slipping tires, consumption increases considerably; the same happens on a country road ridden at 80-90 km/h, close to the top speed. For a mixed ride, Endurrad's conservative estimate is 60-80 km, to be verified with the first road tests.

Charging is done with an external 800 W charger plugged into a standard household outlet: about 5 hours to reach 95% (the US spec sheet states 5.0 hours in the text and 5.2 in the table). The battery can remain on the bike or be removed and taken indoors, which is a real convenience for those living in an apartment building. There is no fast charging: the DC charging announced by Zero for 2027 applies to compatible Street and Dual Sport models that have not yet been listed.
| Use | Estimated range | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Constant speed of 50 km/h | 100-104 km | Zero data |
| Mixed road and off-road ride | 60-80 km | Endurrad estimate, not measured |
| 95% charge from a household outlet | about 5 hours | Zero data |
In Italy, the XE currently costs 6,770 euros and can be ridden with an A1 license
The Italian price comes from Zero's official website, but refers to the XE currently on sale. For the 2027 model, Zero has announced prices only for the United States and United Kingdom.
On Zero's Italian website, the XE is listed at 6,770 euros, with the option to book a test ride and request a quote from dealers. The 2027 model starts at 6,295 dollars in the United States, where it is already available for preorder, and 5,590 pounds in the United Kingdom. Launch in global markets is expected in early spring 2027. The Italian price for model year 2027 has not yet been announced: we'll update it as soon as it's official.
The Italian specifications list the license category as A1/B. In Italy, holders of a category B license can ride A1-category motorcycles within the country, but not abroad. For electric motorcycles, the A1 threshold refers to continuous rated power, not the 15.5 kW peak: Zero does not publish the rated power figure, but classifies the XE as A1 in its official specifications.
What remains to be confirmed. The Italian price and delivery date for the XE 2027; whether the 2027 European version will have the same tires and gearing as the US version; the final rear-wheel torque figure; available colors besides black; which 2027 models will get DC fast charging.

Against Stark and Sur-Ron, the XE plays the price and removable-battery cards
The comparison brings together light off-road electric bikes sold as road-legal models in Europe. Each figure has a source; where one is missing, we say so.
| Model | Power | Battery | Weight | Seat | Wheels | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zero XE 2027 | 15.5 kW peak | 4.3 kWh, removable | 101 kg | 900 mm | 21/18 | €6,770 (current Italian list price) |
| Zero XB (2025 data) | 7.5 kW | 2.4 kWh, removable | 63 kg | n.a. | spoked wheels | 4.515 € |
| Sur-Ron Ultra Bee 2026 | 12.5 kW peak | 74 V, kWh n.a. | 88 kg | 910 mm | 19/18 | €7,490 (Germany) |
| Stark Varg EX | 60 hp | n.a. | 120 kg | 990 mm | 21/18 | 12.990 € |
Data sources: Zero’s XE specifications; Vaielettrico and inSella (May 2025) for the XB; motorcycles.news specifications for the road-legal Ultra Bee; Moto.it price list for the Stark Varg EX. The Varg EX is a competition enduro with different power and a different price; the Ultra Bee is lighter but has a 19-inch front wheel. The XE sits in the middle: true enduro dimensions, A1-class power, and a price close to that of a European-brand 125 off-road bike.

It’s the right bike for anyone who wants quiet dirt-road riding close to home, not for anyone who travels
Before the price and the numbers, there’s just one question that matters: where will you actually ride it?
- Yes for those who live near dirt roads, open forest trails, or designated riding areas and want to head out for an hour or two without disturbing anyone with the noise.
- Yes for anyone looking for a second bike for the city and light off-road riding, with an A1 license or just a standard car license in Italy.
- Yes for anyone who wants to learn off-road riding on a lightweight bike, with traction control and an Eco mode that limits power delivery.
- No for touring: with a claimed range of around 100 km at 50 km/h and a 5-hour charging time, a 200 km day requires a planned long stop.
- No for fast country roads and highways: with a top speed of 95 km/h, there’s no room to overtake.
- Watch out for the 900 mm seat height: it’s an enduro-style measurement, so try it before signing if you’re not tall.
Compared with an off-road 125 or 300cc gas-powered bike, the XE does away with the clutch, gearbox, oil and filters, and the silence changes how you interact with people you meet on the trail. The limitation remains energy: its 4.3 kWh battery is for a day trip, not a long-distance ride. Anyone looking for a bike for off-road touring will still be better off with a mid-size gas-powered adventure bike, like the ones we’ve covered from EICMA in recent days.

Zero also brought a supermoto priced under $8,000 and fast charging to EICMA.
The 2027 XE is part of a broader package with which Zero is expanding its lineup toward lower-priced models.
Project Ventura is a prototype road-legal electric supermoto with 17-inch wheels, over 20 kW peak power, a sustained speed of 105 km/h and a momentary top speed of 130 km/h, passenger accommodation, ABS and an onboard charger. Electrek and Buck City Biker estimate a real-world range of 150 km, while InsideEVs puts it at around 120 km; the target price is under $8,000, with launch expected in summer 2027 and the European target market being A1-licensed riders. Battery capacity has not been announced.
The LS3 scooter makes its European debut with three batteries totaling 5.6 kWh, a top speed of 121 km/h and a range of up to 150 km. For 2027, Zero has also announced a new app and DC fast charging, using CCS in Europe, from 20 to 80% in under 30 minutes on some Street and Dual Sport models, with the option to upgrade bikes already sold: compatible models and prices are not yet known.
We’re following all the latest news from the show day by day in our EICMA 2026 live coverage; among the electric models, we’ve already covered the Ultraviolette X-47 Venom.
The XE needs few accessories, but the right ones
Endurrad’s catalog doesn’t have any accessories specifically for the Zero XE yet: dedicated frames, cases, and protection aren’t available. However, there are universal products that make sense for a lightweight dual sport. Prices and stock checked on 06/11/2026.
