In brief. On the Ducati DesertX, the Wanderer semi-rigid cases are mounted on the LOBOO JP581B side frames in the 40 + 30-liter configuration. The original Ducati frames are not compatible: the Wanderer cases attach only to frames with 18 mm tubing and the LOBOO drilling template.
The case set does not include the frames, which are purchased separately.
What is needed for the DesertX
| Component | Code | Product sheet |
|---|---|---|
| Wanderer 40 + 30 L semi-rigid cases, with two 20 L dry bags | BCB4030TBK | Wanderer |
| LOBOO side frames for Ducati DesertX | JP581B | JP581B frames |
Why 40 + 30 and the P35 template
The JP581B frames are asymmetrical: the left side is sized for a 35-liter PIKE TRACKER case, while the right, exhaust side is sized for a 30-liter case. With the Wanderer cases, this asymmetry becomes 40 + 30: the narrower case goes on the right.
The Wanderer mounting plate comes factory-drilled for PIKE TRACKER P45 frames. For the P35 series, the mounting points must be moved to the 318 × 204 mm center-to-center template already provided on the plate: this only needs to be done once.
Installation at a glance
- Install the JP581B frames according to their manual.
- On the case, move the plate mounting points to the PIKE TRACKER P35 drilling template and tighten the screws to 8 N·m using the included hex key.
- Close the roll-top by rolling it twice and secure the top buckle.
- Attach the case to the frame and close the side lock.
All the steps, with illustrated drilling templates, are in the installation guide for semi-rigid motorcycle cases.

Semi-rigid or aluminum cases for the DesertX
The PIKE TRACKER 35 + 30-liter aluminum cases can also be mounted on the same JP581B frames: you can find them in the PIKE TRACKER kit for the Ducati DesertX, with the frames included. Aluminum offers better protection against impacts and break-ins; the Wanderer cases weigh less, detach by hand like a bag, and include the dry bags.
Frequently asked questions
Can the Wanderer cases be mounted on the original Ducati frames for the DesertX?
No. The Wanderer cases attach only to side frames with 18 mm tubing and the LOBOO drilling pattern. The LOBOO JP581B frames are required for the DesertX.
Does the DesertX use the 40 + 30 or the 40 + 40?
The 40 + 30. The JP581B frames are asymmetrical: the 30-liter case goes on the right side, the exhaust side.
Does the case plate need to be modified?
You need to move the mounting points according to the PIKE TRACKER P35 template, already prepared on the plate, and tighten the screws to 8 N·m. This is done only once, using the included hex key.
Are the frames included in the case set?
No, the Wanderer set includes two cases and two 20 L dry bags. The JP581B frames are purchased separately.
Are they waterproof?
The manufacturer declares an IPX6 rating: they withstand heavy rain and water jets, but not immersion. Sealing also depends on the roll-top, which must be rolled twice.
