In brief. A magnetic tank bag does not hold on most recent adventure and touring bikes because the tank is plastic, or is covered by side panels that keep the magnets away from the metal. The solution is a mounting ring screwed in place of the fuel cap trim ring: the bag attaches there, the magnets align it, and four mechanical clips lock it in place.
The ring is sold separately, is specific to the motorcycle family (22 codes), and costs €26 or €31. Before ordering, check two measurements: at least 70 mm between the handlebar and the cap, with the steering turned all the way. On the Honda CB400X, NX400, NX500, and CB500X, the number of cap holes also matters.
On modern tanks, the magnets have nothing to grab onto
You buy a magnetic tank bag, place it on the motorcycle, and nothing happens. It just sits there, moves with a push of a finger, and is already sideways at the first corner. It is not a defect in the bag: the tank on your motorcycle is most likely not made of iron.

Why pure magnetism stopped working
Magnetic tank bags originated in the days when tanks were made of sheet metal: four magnets, downward pressure, and the bag stayed where it was. On most recent adventure and touring bikes, that assumption no longer applies. The tanks are plastic, or they are metal but covered by side panels and shrouds that keep the bag away from the magnetic surface. The result is the same, and no bag brand can fix it.
The solution is a ring, not a better bag
The system that has become standard on modern motorcycles moves the attachment point: instead of attaching to the tank, the bag attaches to a mounting ring screwed around the fuel cap.

The clips hold it in place, not the magnets
The ring replaces the cap's original trim ring. The bag rests on it, the magnets position it at four points, and four mechanical clips lock it in place. To remove it, simply lift it.
The magnets only serve to align the bag as you place it. Therefore, the tank material becomes irrelevant: metal or plastic, the ring is mechanically secured and does not care what is underneath.
Dimensions and weights: data declared by LOBOO in the product documentation.
The ring is not universal: each motorcycle family has its own code
This is the most frequent mistake, and the one that costs you a return: you order the bag and assume the mount is included or will fit anyway. The ring is purchased separately because the flange pattern follows the number and position of the fuel cap screws.

For four Hondas, the model is not enough: the cap's hole count matters
This is the only case in which knowing the motorcycle model is not enough to choose the ring.

Two caps, two non-interchangeable rings
On the CB400X, NX400, NX500, and CB500X, there are two versions of the fuel cap, with five or seven holes, and the two rings are not interchangeable. Same motorcycle, same year, different mounting depending on the trim level.

The check takes ten seconds: go to the garage and count the bolts around the cap before ordering.
Two measurements taken in the garage are worth more than the motorcycle specifications
In addition to the motorcycle model, there are two physical checks that apply to any bag brand.

The space between the handlebars and the cap
For larger bags, you need at least 70 mm between the handlebar mount and the fuel cap. Below that measurement, the bag will not fit, or it will fit but touch. You can measure it with a tailor's tape measure in one minute.
The handlebars fully turned
It is the maneuver in which the bag gets in the way, not riding in a straight line. Bags with a sliding base solve the problem: the plate moves back and forth over 11 cm by lifting a buckle, without tools. If the handlebar touches when turned fully, move the base back instead of giving up the bag.
- there is a LOBOO ring for your motorcycle in the table
- you have at least 70 mm between the handlebars and the cap
- with the handlebars turned fully, the handlebar does not touch; if necessary, move the base back
- does not attach to the tank without a ring or straps
- not recommended if you have moved the handlebars back from the stock configuration (LOBOO guidance)
- does not replace a waterproof bag when submerged
Installation takes just a few minutes and requires no drilling
The ring replaces the fuel cap ring and uses the screws already in place: the operation is completely reversible.

- Unscrew the original screws from the fuel cap ring.
- Position the ring flange so that it aligns with the holes.
- Reinstall using the supplied hardware, tightening in a crisscross pattern and following the torque specifications provided by the motorcycle manufacturer.
- Check that the cap opens and closes freely and that the key inserts without forcing it.
- Set the bag in place, adjust the sliding base, and check that the handlebar does not touch with the steering fully turned.
- Recheck the tightening after the first 100-200 km.
One ring, four bags: choose the volume according to the trip
All LOBOO tank bags in the range use the same ring attachment, and none attach with straps. Install the ring once, then switch bags according to the trip.

The fabric determines how long it lasts
The fabric is double-thread 2520D ballistic nylon, the weave used where abrasion resistance matters: on a bag that rubs against your jacket and knees throughout the ride, it is what determines how long it lasts. The BTB12 also has an EVA upper shell that helps it keep its shape even when half empty, plus SBS zippers with pulls sized to grip while wearing winter gloves.

The entire range is in the motorcycle tank bags collection.
The fabric is water-repellent, not waterproof: the cover is needed in a storm.
This is the point on which the most misinformation is circulating.

The ring costs €26 or €31 and is the expense that makes the bag usable.
Without the ring, a bag costing over one hundred euros stays in the box: adding them to the cart together is the only way to avoid being stuck on delivery day.

Frequently asked questions
Does the magnetic tank bag work on a plastic tank?
No, not on its own. The magnets need a ferrous surface. With the mounting ring screwed to the filler cap, this is not an issue, because the grip is on the ring, not the bodywork.
Is the mounting ring included with the bag?
No. It is purchased separately and is specific to each motorcycle family. The bag cannot be mounted without the ring.
What keeps the bag secure: the magnets or the clips?
The clips. The magnets align the bag on the four points as you place it, then four mechanical clips lock it onto the ring. To remove it, simply lift it.
Do you need to drill the tank to install the ring?
No. The ring replaces the original filler-cap ring and uses the existing screws. Installation is completely reversible.
How much does the mounting ring cost?
€26 for 16 of the 22 codes and €31 for the six upgraded codes: BMW R 1300 GS and Adventure, Honda with 5- and 7-hole patterns, CFMOTO 450MT, QJMOTOR, and Harley-Davidson Pan America. Prices as of 01/10/2026.
How much does the ring weigh?
The standard version weighs 85 g and measures 122 × 104 mm, in aluminum alloy and nylon. The Pan America version weighs 130 g and measures 147 × 122 mm, made entirely of aluminum. These are data declared by LOBOO.
Can I use the same ring with bags of different capacities?
Yes. All tank bags in the range share the four-point attachment, so once a ring is installed, you can switch from the small bag to the 10-liter one without touching anything on the motorcycle.
How can I tell whether my Honda has a five-hole or seven-hole cap?
Count the screws around the fuel cap. Five holes correspond to code BTBZJ291, while seven holes correspond to BTBZJ281. The two rings are not interchangeable.
How much space is needed between the handlebar and the cap?
At least 70 mm for the larger-volume bags. Below that measurement, the bag may touch the handlebar when the steering is fully turned.
What should I do if the handlebar touches the bag when turned fully?
On bags with a sliding base (BTB10, BTB15, BTB12), lift the buckle and slide the plate backward: on the BTB10, the adjustment range is 11 cm, with no tools required. If that is not enough, switch to a smaller-volume bag.
Is the tank bag waterproof?
The fabric is water-repellent and withstands rain while riding, but it is not waterproof when submerged and has no declared IP rating. For prolonged bad weather, use the rain cover included in the package.
Which tank bag should I choose for touring?
For essentials, the 2.5-3.5 L BTB05 is enough, and it can also be carried as a waist bag. For touring, you need 6-10 liters: the BTB10 expands to 6.5 L, the BTB15 to 9 L, and the BTB12 has a fixed 10 L capacity with an EVA shell.
How often should the ring's fasteners be checked?
After the first 100-200 km following installation, while observing the torque values specified by the motorcycle manufacturer.
Can the ring be removed if I sell the motorcycle?
Yes. Unscrew and refit the original ring: no holes or permanent modifications remain.
