Barkbusters BHG-125 handguard mounting kit for Zero FX and FXE from 2024

The BHG-125 is the Barkbusters mounting kit designed for the Zero FX and FXE electric motorcycles from 2024 onward. It is the structure onto which Barkbusters plastics are mounted: on its own, it protects levers and hands from impacts; with the plastics, it adds protection from wind, cold, and branches.

Protection and use

Barkbusters clearly distinguishes between the two mounting configurations, and the two-point configuration, anchored both at the end and at the center of the handlebar, is the one the manufacturer specifies for impact protection. On the FX models, lightweight electric off-road bikes, this means keeping the levers protected from falls, stones, and branches.

Materials and construction

Aluminum bars (manufacturer code BAR-V020), CFS-ADV frame clamps, BBE14A expanders with BBEC5M collars. The manufacturer does not specify the finish or weight of the kit, so we do not report them.

Compatibility

* The year comes from the official kit catalog; it is not included in the instructions. Do you have a Zero DS, DSR, or DSR/X? The kit is the BHG-121.

Barkbusters states compatibility for motorcycles in original factory configuration. Mounting on aftermarket handlebars must be checked before purchase.

Installation

Remove the handguards and original bar-end weights. The brake master cylinder must be moved inward so that the lever does not touch the bar. Install the clamp without tightening it, preassemble the bolt, bar, collar, expander, and conical nut, and position them at the end, aligning the clamp with the bar; on the right side, add the M8 washer. With the bar horizontal when viewed from the side, tighten in this order: the M8x45 end bolt, the M8x20 bolt, then the M6 clamp bolts.

Specified torque values: 10 Nm for the M6 bolts and 28 Nm for the M8 bolts, using medium-strength threadlocker and checking everything after the first 50 km. Once installation is complete, check the controls and the mirror view. Barkbusters recommends professional installation.

• VPS-003: deflector adjustable to two positions. It is being discontinued, and the price list indicates the VPS-203 as its replacement.
• STM-003, STORM series: more extensive coverage for the colder months.
