Everything you need to know before ordering
Compatibility, included items, installation, and documents: below is every detail verified against the official Barkbusters documentation.
The BHG-053 is the Barkbusters mounting frame designed around the handlebar geometry of the Yamaha XTZ1200E Super Ténéré from 2014 onward. It is a two-point mounting kit: the aluminum bar anchors to the end of the handlebar and to a clamp on the straight section, forming a continuous arch around the hand.
The Super Ténéré is a large adventure touring bike: it is heavy, and when it goes down there is no way to hold it back. At that moment, the handguard determines whether the day continues or you end up with a broken clutch lever hundreds of kilometers from home. This is the situation in which a two-point aluminum frame is worth what it costs.
Know this before ordering: the protective plastics are not included, while the handlebar weights are.
If you have a Super Ténéré, check the year
| Your XTZ1200 | Barkbusters code |
|---|---|
| up to 2013 | BHG-040 |
| from 2014 onward | BHG-053, this page |
The 2014 facelift changed the handlebar, and the change in handlebar means a different code.
Key features
- Two-point mounting: the configuration the manufacturer specifies for impact protection. The single-point setup is declared only for wind and weather protection.
- Heat-treated aluminum bar: the treatment increases strength without adding weight to the structure.
- Handlebar weights included in the package.
- Natural aluminum finish, code NP.
- Four series of compatible plastics: JET, VPS, STORM and CARBON, interchangeable on the same frame.
- Made in Australia by Rideworx Pty Ltd, which has designed handguards since 1984.
Protection and use
The wraparound frame protects the brake lever, clutch lever and switchgear: it takes the impact and distributes it through the aluminum instead of leaving it to the lever. The plastics determine the rest, and on a long-distance bike the choice leans toward coverage: STORM are the most extensive and the choice for winter, VPS have a deflector adjustable to two positions, JET remain compact, and CARBON are made of carbon fiber.
Materials and construction
Heat-treated aluminum bar, dedicated clamps and hardware, and handlebar weights. The manufacturer does not state weight and dimensions numerically, and we do not estimate them.
Compatibility
| Make | Model | Years | Code |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yamaha | XTZ1200E Super Ténéré | from 2014 onward | BHG-053-NP |
The manufacturer lists the range as open-ended, with no final year, and does not distinguish between trim levels: the ES and Raid Edition versions from those years use the same handlebar. Barkbusters compatibility applies to the motorcycle in its original factory configuration: an aftermarket handlebar changes the diameter and thicknesses, so the mounting must be checked before purchase. Write to us with the year and trim level, and we will check it together.
Installation
- Verify that you have a 2014-onward XTZ1200E Super Ténéré with the original handlebar.
- Remove the stock handlebar weights: the ones supplied in the kit go in their place.
- Mount the clamp on the straight section of the handlebar, in front of the controls, without fully tightening it.
- Attach the aluminum bar to the end of the handlebar and to the clamp, then position it.
- Fit the plastics you have chosen, align them, and tighten them to the torque specifications indicated by the manufacturer.
- Check the throttle, front brake, clutch and free steering from lock to lock, then check the tightness again after the first 50 km.
The tightening torques and complete installation sequence are provided in the official INS-BHG-053-NP instructions, attached to this product page and supplied with the kit. The manufacturer considers handguard installation a safety-critical task, to be entrusted to a technician if you are not familiar with this type of work.
What you get in the package
- Two heat-treated aluminum bars, natural finish
- Clamps and complete hardware
- Handlebar weights
- INS-BHG-053-NP installation instructions
What is NOT included
The protective plastics, which must be ordered separately: JET-003, VPS-203, STORM STM-003 or CARBON BCF-003. EGO plastics are not compatible with this frame.
Why choose Barkbusters
Barkbusters is a brand of Rideworx Pty Ltd, an Australian company that has been producing handguards since 1984. The range is built around a simple principle: a frame designed for the specific motorcycle, with interchangeable plastics to choose according to how you use the bike. On a motorcycle you keep for ten years, being able to change only the plastics is a tangible advantage.
Why buy it from Endurrad
