Impact protection

Two mounting points and heat-treated aluminum. Barkbusters states that this configuration is designed for impact protection: that is the substantial difference compared with the original handguards, which are designed primarily to deflect wind. On the GS, where dropping the bike at a standstill off-road is an everyday occurrence, it is the difference between a bent lever and an undamaged motorcycle.

Who is it recommended for

Assembly and documents

Le istruzioni ufficiali INS-BHG-085-BK sono allegate a questa scheda.

  1. Verifica modello e anno: F750GS, F850GS e F850GSA dal 2018, R1250GS dal 2018, R1250GSA dal 2019.
  2. Rimuovi i paramani originali e segui il PDF per il trattamento dei contrappesi.
  3. Monta il morsetto sulla sezione dritta del manubrio, senza serrare a fondo, controllando il passaggio di cavi e tubazioni.
  4. Fissa la barra in alluminio all estremità del manubrio e al morsetto, poi portala in posizione.
  5. Monta le plastiche che hai scelto, allinea tutto e serra.
  6. Verifica il funzionamento di gas, freno anteriore, frizione e interruttore di arresto, e che lo sterzo giri liberamente da fondo a fondo. Ricontrolla il serraggio dopo i primi 50 km.

Which motorcycles does it fit?

For five BMW models: F750GS, F850GS, and F850GS Adventure from 2018, R1250GS from 2018, and R1250GS Adventure from 2019. It is one of the most versatile codes in the range.

I have an R1300GS: is this kit suitable?

No. The R1300GS is the next generation and has a different handlebar: you need the BHG-124 or the BHG-133, depending on whether the original handguards have an integrated amber turn signal or not.

I have an R1200GS: will it fit?

No, this code is for the R1250GS. For the R1200GS, the codes vary depending on the year: contact us with the motorcycle's year and we'll tell you the correct one.

Are the protective plastic parts included?

No. The BHG-085 is only the mounting structure: aluminum bars, clamps, and hardware. The plastic components are selected and purchased separately.

What plastics can I install on it?

Four series: JET with a compact profile, VPS with an adjustable deflector, STORM with extended coverage, and CARBON in fiber. EGO plastics are not compatible.

Can I reuse the original counterweights?

The manufacturer does not state this in the official description of this code, while some retailers report that larger hardware is required to work with the original counterweight. We prefer not to take this for granted: the official instructions attached to the product page specify the correct sequence, and if you want confirmation before purchasing, write to us.

Does the clamp interfere with the brake fluid reservoir?

This is one of the areas where generic kits cause problems on this bike. The BHG-085 is not an adapted universal kit: the clamp and bar are designed around the geometry of these handlebars in their original factory configuration. However, the manufacturer does not publish a written specification for the tank, so we make no promises: follow the included instructions and check first before tightening.

Is it compatible with the original heated grips?

The manufacturer states compatibility with motorcycles in their original factory configuration, and heated grips are a standard BMW option on many of these motorcycles. Since there is no explicit statement on this point, if your motorcycle has them, write to us before ordering and we will check.

Does it protect the lever in a fall?

Yes. It has two mounting points, and the manufacturer states that the aluminum heat treatment is intended to add strength and impact protection. That is the difference compared with the original BMW hand guards, which are designed primarily for wind protection.

My model is listed, but the year isn’t: will it still fit?

We never expand the year range by inference: if yours is not among those listed, contact us with the VIN and trim level, and we will check with the supplier before ordering.

What will I find in the package?

The two black-painted aluminum bars, clamps, and mounting hardware. No protective plastic.

Is it available in aluminum instead of black?

For this code, the manufacturer specifies a black powder-coated finish, and the official code is BHG-085-BK. If you are interested in a different finish, write to us and we will check with the supplier.

I installed the JADO S6 on my BMW GS (non-"dedicated" version), and although I don't use the BMW base, the display and features are still top notch.
