Description Barkbusters BHG-010 handguard mounting kit for BMW F 650 GS Funduro, Dakar and G 650 GS

The BHG-010 is the specific mounting kit for single-cylinder BMW motorcycles in the F 650 GS and G 650 GS families: heat-treated aluminum bar, clamps, and hardware.

Declared compatibility

Model Years Engine
BMW F 650 GS Funduro up to 2007 single-cylinder
BMW F 650 GS Dakar up to 2007 single-cylinder
BMW G 650 GS 2008-2010 single-cylinder

Warning: two different motorcycles with the same name

It is the most frequent source of confusion with this model. BMW used the name F 650 GS for two completely different motorcycles: a single-cylinder model up to 2007 and a twin-cylinder model from 2008. They have different handlebars and require different kits.

Your motorcycle Correct code
F 650 GS or Dakar single-cylinder, up to 2007 BHG-010, this product
F 650 GS twin-cylinder, from 2008 BHG-032
G 650 GS, 2008-2010 BHG-010, this product
G 650 GS, from 2011 BHG-045

Impact protection

Two mounting points and heat-treated aluminum. Barkbusters states that this configuration is designed for impact protection.

On a Dakar used as intended, it is the difference between a bent lever and a day that continues. And on a motorcycle that has been out of production for years, levers and controls are precisely the parts that are hardest to replace.

The plastics are NOT included

Four compatible series: JET-003, VPS-203, STM-003, and BCF-003. EGO plastics are not compatible.

What you get in the package

  • Two heat-treated aluminum bars, natural finish.
  • Clamps and complete hardware.

What is NOT included

  • Protective plastics, to be chosen from JET, VPS, STORM, and CARBON.

Why buy it from Endurrad

Free shipping in Italy on orders over €100 and in Europe on orders over €250, returns within 14 days, and support in Italian. If you are unsure about your motorcycle's year or engine, write to us before ordering.

Why choose it
  • Protezione dagli impatti dichiarata.
  • Quattro plastiche compatibili. JET, VPS, STORM e CARBON, intercambiabili negli anni sulla stessa struttura.
  • Prodotto in Australia.
Who is it recommended for

Assembly and documents

  3. Rimuovi i paramani originali, se presenti, e i contrappesi.
  5. Fissa la barra in alluminio all estremità del manubrio e al morsetto, poi portala in posizione e monta le plastiche.

Until 2007, not later

  • The 2008-on twin-cylinder F 650 GS is a different motorcycle: it requires the BHG-032.

Two different motorcycles, the same name

BMW used the name F 650 GS for two completely different motorcycles: a single-cylinder model up to 2007 and a twin-cylinder model from 2008 onward. Different handlebars, different kits. This code is for the single-cylinder model; the twin-cylinder model requires the BHG-032. The year on the registration document is the simplest way to avoid making a mistake.

FAQs

For more information, see our FAQ of frequently asked questions.

Which motorcycles does it fit?

On three BMW models, all single-cylinder: the F 650 GS Funduro and F 650 GS Dakar through 2007, and the G 650 GS from 2008 to 2010.

I have an F 650 GS: how can I tell if it’s a single-cylinder?

Year is the simplest criterion: the F 650 GS models up to 2007 have single-cylinder engines, while those from 2008 onward have twin-cylinder engines. They are two completely different motorcycles that shared the same name, and this is the most common source of confusion with this model.

I have a twin-cylinder F 650 GS: which code do I need?

The BHG-032, which covers the twin-cylinder F 650 GS from 2008 to 2012, along with other BMW and Triumph models.

I have a G 650 GS: is this one or the BHG-045 suitable?

It depends on the year, and the code changes here too: the G 650 GS from 2008 to 2010 uses this BHG-010, while the one from 2011 onward uses BHG-045. Check the registration document before ordering.

What’s the difference between Funduro and Dakar?

They are two versions of the same motorcycle: the Dakar has a larger front wheel, longer-travel suspension, and a raised setup. Nothing changes regarding the handguards: the handlebar is the same, and the manufacturer lists them together.

Are the protective plastic parts included?

No. The BHG-010 is the mounting structure only: aluminum bars, clamps, and hardware. The plastic components are selected and purchased separately.

What plastics can I install on it?

Four series: JET with a compact profile, VPS with an adjustable deflector, STORM with extended coverage, and CARBON in fiber. EGO plastics are not compatible.

The motorcycle is no longer being produced: is it worth investing in?

The handguards protect the levers and controls, which on a motorcycle that has been out of production for years are precisely the most difficult and expensive parts to replace. And the structure does not age with the motorcycle: if you change bikes in the future, the plastics remain compatible with the entire Barkbusters range.

Does it protect the lever in a fall?

Yes. It has two mounting points, and the manufacturer states that heat-treating the aluminum adds strength and impact protection. On a Dakar used as it came from the factory, it can mean the difference between a bent lever and a day that continues.

Do I need to remove the original counterweights?

The structure attaches to the end of the handlebar, so the original bar-end weights must be removed. The official instructions attached to the product page show the correct sequence.

What will I find in the package?

The two aluminum bars, clamps, and mounting hardware. No protective plastic.

I installed an aftermarket handlebar: does it fit the same way?

The manufacturer states compatibility with motorcycles in their original factory configuration. On twenty-year-old motorcycles, the handlebar may have been replaced by previous owners: if you are not sure it is the stock one, check before purchasing.
