Barkbusters BHG-103 handguard mounting kit for Benelli TRK 502 and TRK 702

The BHG-103 is the Barkbusters mounting kit designed for the Benelli TRK 502 and TRK 502X from 2020 and the TRK 702 and TRK 702X from 2024. It is the structure onto which Barkbusters plastics are mounted: by itself, it protects levers and hands from impacts; with the plastics, it also provides protection from wind, cold, and rain.

Protection and use

Barkbusters clearly distinguishes between the two mounting configurations, and the two-point configuration, anchored both at the end and at the center of the handlebar, is the one the manufacturer specifies for impact protection. On the TRK, touring crossover motorcycles, this means levers protected from falls and hands protected during rides.

Materials and construction

Heat-treated aluminum bars (manufacturer code BAR-V-053), MFC-28 multi-fit clamps with CP8 connectors. The manufacturer does not state the finish or the kit's weight, so we do not report them.

Compatibility

The manufacturer specifies that fitment tests are carried out on standard motorcycles, with the original handlebar and windscreen in their factory positions.

Installation

Remove any original handguards. The original bar end weight remains in place: the bar is secured to the end together with it, using an M6 bolt and a spacer. Install the clamp without tightening it, secure the bar at the end and to the connector, horizontal when viewed from the side, and tighten in this order: M6x45 end bolt, M8x25 bar bolt, M6x20 clamp bolts, M6x30 connector bolt.

Recommended reinforcement: to increase clamping strength, Barkbusters recommends enlarging the 6 mm handlebar thread to 8 mm. This is a workshop procedure, not mandatory, and the M8 bolts are not included in the kit.

Specified torque settings: 10 Nm for the M6 bolts and 28 Nm for the M8 bolts, using medium-strength threadlocker and checking again after the first 50 km. Leave approximately 3 mm of clearance between the throttle grip and the handguard.

• Protective plastics. The kit is the structure only: the plastics must be purchased separately from those specified by the manufacturer.
• The M8 bolts for the recommended thread reinforcement.
• Threadlocker and tools.

• JET-003: compact profile, for mixed use.
• VPS-003: two-position adjustable deflector, for touring. It is being phased out, and the catalog lists the VPS-203 as its replacement.
• STM-003, STORM series: greater coverage, for the colder months.
• BCF-003, CARBON series: made of carbon fiber.
