Barkbusters BHG-105 handguard mounting kit for Aprilia Tuareg 660 from 2022

The BHG-105 is the Barkbusters mounting kit designed for the Aprilia Tuareg 660 from 2022 onward. It is the structure onto which Barkbusters plastics are mounted: on its own, it protects levers and hands from impacts; with the plastics fitted, it adds protection from wind, cold, and branches.

Protection and use

Barkbusters clearly distinguishes between the two mounting configurations, and the two-point configuration, anchored both at the end and at the center of the handlebar, is the one the manufacturer specifies for impact protection. On the Tuareg 660, an adventure bike designed for off-road use, this means protecting the levers from falls, stones, and branches.

Materials and construction

Heat-treated aluminum bars (manufacturer code BAR-V-043), MFC-22 multi-fit clamps with CP8 connectors, BESF4 bar-end inserts. The manufacturer does not state the finish or the kit's weight, so we do not report them.

Compatibility

Do you have a Tuareg 660 Rally? For the Rally from 2025 onward, Barkbusters specifies a different kit, the BHG-147, which is not currently listed in the Endurrad catalog.

The manufacturer specifies that fitting tests are carried out on standard motorcycles, with the original handlebar and windscreen in their factory positions.

Installation

Remove the original handguards and bar-end weight, if fitted. Fit the clamp without tightening it, secure the bar at the end with the insert and bar-end weight and to the connector, horizontal when viewed from the side, then tighten in this order: the M8x40 end bolt, the M8x25 bar bolt, the M6x20 clamp bolts, and the M6x30 connector bolt.

Specified torques: 10 Nm for the M6 bolts and 28 Nm for the M8 bolts. The torque for the bar-end insert is not specified in the instructions: follow the sheet included in the package. Use medium-strength threadlocker, check after the first 50 km, and leave approximately 3 mm of clearance between the throttle grip and the handguard.

• Protective plastics. The kit is the structure only: the plastics must be purchased separately from those specified by the manufacturer.
• Threadlocker and tools.

• JET-003: compact profile, for off-road use.
• VPS-003: two-position adjustable deflector, for touring. It is being phased out, and the catalog lists the VPS-203 as its replacement.
• STM-003, STORM series: more extensive coverage, for the colder months.
• BCF-003, CARBON series: made of carbon fiber.
