Description Barkbusters STM-005-NP universal single-point mounting kit for hollow handlebars

STM-005-NP is the single-point mounting frame only for hollow handlebars: aluminum frame, locking plugs, expansion adapters, and hardware. It is not a complete handguard.

Unscrew the bar-end weight and look inside the tube

The plastic guards are NOT included

The manufacturer states that this kit is compatible with four series: JET-003, VPS-203, STM-003, and BCF-003. This is a broader list than that of the clamp kits, which accept only STORM and CARBON. EGO guards are not compatible.

Single-point: protects against the elements, not impacts

Barkbusters states that single-point products are designed solely for protection against the elements.

Two warnings from the official PDF

  • Honda: both the external bar-end weight and the internal rubber-mounted threaded weight inside the tube must be removed.
  • Threadlocker for single use: the threadlocker pre-applied to the bolts is intended for one installation only. If you disassemble it, it must be reapplied.

Who is it recommended for

A chi ha un manubrio cavo, cioè con il tubo aperto e senza filetto interno, e vuole decidere da sé quale protezione montare.

A chi ha la sezione dritta del manubrio già occupata da comandi e accessori, e non ha spazio per un morsetto.

Non è la scelta giusta per chi cerca protezione della leva in caduta, né per chi ha il manubrio filettato internamente: in quel caso serve lo STM-007-NP.

Assembly and documents

Le istruzioni ufficiali INS-STM-005 sono allegate a questa scheda.

  1. Svita e rimuovi i contrappesi originali. Sulle Honda vanno tolti sia quello esterno sia quello interno filettato su gomma dentro il tubo.
  2. Verifica il diametro interno del tubo: fino a 18,5 mm il kit basta da solo, da lì fino a un pollice serve il kit adattatori B-074.
  3. Inserisci l adattatore a espansione nel tubo e monta il telaio in alluminio, orientando il distanziale con lo smusso verso il manubrio.
  4. Monta la plastica che hai scelto, seguendo le istruzioni della serie corrispondente.
  5. Controlla il funzionamento di gas, freno anteriore, frizione e interruttore di arresto prima di partire, poi ricontrolla il serraggio dopo i primi 50 km.

Il frenafiletti preapplicato sui bulloni vale per un solo montaggio: se smonti e rimonti, riapplica frenafiletti nuovo di media resistenza. Il produttore considera il montaggio dei paramani un intervento rilevante per la sicurezza, da affidare a un tecnico se non hai dimestichezza.

Are the protective plastic parts included?

No. The STM-005-NP is the mounting structure only: aluminum frame, locking caps, adapters, and hardware. The plastic components are selected and purchased separately.

What plastics can I install on it?

Four series, all stated by the manufacturer: JET, VPS, STORM, and CARBON. This is a broader range than the clamp kits, which accept only STORM and CARBON. EGO models are not compatible.

How can I tell if my handlebar is hollow?

Unscrew the bar-end weight and look inside the tube. If it is open and smooth, without threads, the handlebar is hollow and this is the correct code. If there is a thread inside, you need the STM-007-NP; if the end is closed by a solid insert, neither will fit.

My handlebar is hollow but one inch: will it fit?

Yes, but an additional part is needed. The kit covers internal diameters up to 18.5 mm; for one-inch hollow handlebars, the manufacturer specifies the B-074 adapter kit, which is purchased separately and is listed in the catalog.

What’s the difference compared with the STM-007-NP?

How they attach. The STM-005-NP uses an expansion fitting inside a hollow handlebar, meaning it has no thread; the STM-007-NP screws into a 6 or 8 mm internal thread. The frame, compatible plastics, and level of protection are identical.

Does it protect the lever in a fall?

No. Barkbusters specifies that single-point products are designed only for protection from the elements. For lever protection in a fall, two-point kits are required.

Should I remove the counterweights?

Yes: the kit anchors inside the handlebar, in the space they occupied. If you feel more vibration after installation, Barkbusters offers a dedicated bar-end weight, part number B-066, in its catalog.

I have a Honda: are there any particular precautions?

Yes, and the official PDF confirms it: on Hondas, both the external counterweight and the internal one, threaded onto rubber inside the tube, must be removed. It’s a detail that often only becomes apparent halfway through installation.

If I disassemble and reassemble the kit, is that okay?

One precaution the manufacturer points out: the bolts have pre-applied threadlocker, which is intended for a single installation. If you remove and reinstall them, apply new medium-strength threadlocker.

Is the specific code for my motorcycle required?

No. It has a universal fit: what matters is how the end of the handlebar is made, not the motorcycle’s make, model, and year.

What will I find in the package?

The right and left aluminum frames, locking caps, expansion adapters, spacers, and hardware with pre-applied threadlocker. No protective plastic.

What is the difference compared with the complete STM-005?

Just the plastics. The complete STM-005 also includes the black STORM plastics; this is the same frame without them, and it lets you choose from four different series.
