Description Barkbusters BHG-001 universal mounting kit for 22 mm straight handlebars

The BHG-001 is the mounting structure only for 22 mm straight handlebars: heat-treated aluminum bars, clamps, and hardware. It is not a complete handguard.

The manufacturer renamed this code: the current one is BHG-001, while the previous one was BHG-151.

Protective plastics are NOT included

This is the most important thing to know before ordering, and it is also why this product exists: you choose the shell your motorcycle and riding style require, and you can change it over time without replacing the system.

EGO plastics are not compatible: they fit exclusively on EGO structures.

Two mounting points

The bar bridges the gap between the handlebar end and a clamp on the straight section. The manufacturer states that the heat treatment of the aluminum adds strength and impact protection: this is the configuration Barkbusters specifies for protecting the lever in a crash.

Who is it recommended for

A chi ha un manubrio dritto da 22 mm, vuole protezione vera della leva in caduta e preferisce decidere da sé quale plastica montare.

A chi ha già in casa delle plastiche Barkbusters compatibili e gli serve solo la struttura.

Non è la scelta giusta per chi vuole una soluzione pronta: in quel caso conviene un paramano completo, dove le plastiche sono già incluse. E nemmeno se il manubrio è conico, dove serve il BHG-002.

Assembly and documents

Le istruzioni ufficiali INS-BHG-001-NP sono allegate a questa scheda.

  1. Verifica con un calibro che la sezione dritta del manubrio sia da 22 mm. Se è da 28,5 mm servono in più i cavallotti BSS-00.
  2. Rimuovi i contrappesi originali. Se le manopole sono chiuse all estremità vanno aperte, perché la struttura si ancora dentro il manubrio.
  3. Monta il morsetto sulla sezione dritta senza serrare.
  4. Fissa la barra in alluminio all estremità del manubrio e al morsetto, poi portala in posizione e serra.
  5. Monta le plastiche che hai scelto, seguendo le istruzioni della serie corrispondente.
  6. Verifica il funzionamento di gas, freno anteriore, frizione e interruttore di arresto prima di partire, poi ricontrolla il serraggio dopo i primi 50 km.

Frenafiletti di media resistenza su tutti i fissaggi. Il produttore considera il montaggio dei paramani un intervento rilevante per la sicurezza, da affidare a un tecnico se non hai dimestichezza.

The package includes the aluminum bars, clamps, and hardware. The plastic guards are not included: you choose them from four different series, and you can change them over the years without touching the structure. That is the principle behind the entire Barkbusters range.

The bar anchors to the end of the handlebar and to a clamp on the straight section, forming a bridge in front of the lever. Barkbusters states that its two-point products are designed for impact protection: this is the substantial difference compared with single-point kits, which protect only against the elements.

Are the protective plastic parts included?

No. The BHG-001 is only the mounting structure: aluminum bars, clamps, and hardware. The protective plastics are selected and purchased separately.

What plastics can I install on it?

Four series, all declared by the manufacturer: JET with a compact profile, VPS with an adjustable deflector, STORM with extended coverage, and CARBON in fiber. EGO plastics are not compatible: they are only for EGO frames.

Does it protect against drops?

Yes. It has two attachment points, and the manufacturer states that the heat treatment of the aluminum is specifically intended to add strength and protection against impacts. The bar bridges the gap between the end of the handlebar and the clamp, protecting the lever.

I have a Renthal Twin Wall or a Barkbusters VSBar: will it fit?

Yes, by adding a piece. On these handlebars, the straight section is 28.5 mm, and the manufacturer specifies the BSS-00 clamp set, which is purchased separately and is listed in the catalog. This differs from the BHG-002 for tapered handlebars, where those handlebars are excluded entirely.

How can I tell if my handlebar is straight and 22 mm?

Measure the diameter with calipers on the straight section: if it is 22 mm along the entire length, the handlebar is straight and this is the correct code. If it widens toward the center, it is tapered, and you need BHG-002.

What’s the difference compared with the BHG-002?

Only the handlebar they are designed for: the BHG-001 is for 22 mm straight handlebars, while the BHG-002 is for tapered handlebars. The construction, compatible plastics, and level of protection are identical. The treatment of 28.5 mm handlebars also differs: here, the BSS-00 clamps are sufficient; with the tapered version, they are excluded.

What is the difference compared with the STM-001-NP, which is for the same handlebar?

The number of mounts changes everything. The BHG-001 has two mounting points, and the manufacturer states that it protects against impacts; the STM-001-NP has a single mounting point and is stated to protect against weather only. The BHG-001 also accepts four sets of plastic parts instead of two, but it occupies the end of the handlebar.

I saw code BHG-151: is it the same product?

Yes. The manufacturer renamed this code: the current one is BHG-001, while the previous one was BHG-151. If you find references to the old code, they refer to the same structure.

Is the specific code for my motorcycle required?

No. The BHG-001 has a universal mount: what matters is that the handlebar is straight and 22 mm. That is the difference compared with the specific BHG and BLG kits, where the code is linked to the make, model, and year.

Should I remove the bar ends or cut off the grips?

The original bar-end weights must be removed because the structure attaches to the end of the handlebar, and if the grips are closed at the ends, they must be opened. The Barkbusters replacement for the bar-end weights is catalog code B-066.

What will I find in the package?

The two aluminum bars, the clamps for the straight section of the handlebar, and all the mounting hardware. No protective plastic.

Do I need to recheck the tightening after installation?

Yes. Barkbusters asks you to check the tightness of all screws again after the first 50 km and recommends using a medium-strength threadlocker on all fasteners.
