What Are the LOBOO Wanderer Inflatable Bags and Why Do They Exist

A traditional crash bar bag is essentially a pouch attached to the crash bar: it adds volume where the motorcycle has room for it, and that is all. The LOBOO inflatable Wanderer bags start from the same concept but add an element with no direct equivalent on the market: an internal TPU chamber that, once inflated through the dedicated valve, turns the bag into an air cushion.

The principle concerns the physics of a slow fall, the kind that really happens: a wrong maneuver in a sloping parking lot, a foot slipping on gravel, unpaved ground giving way under the front wheel at five miles per hour. In these cases, the motorcycle does not suffer a violent impact but rests on the ground with all its weight. The inflated bag touches down first, widens the fall angle, and distributes the load over a broad surface instead of a single point on the tubular bar. LOBOO states that the air chamber has a load capacity of at least 300 kg in the event of a sudden fall.

It is not an airbag and does not replace anything: it is an additional layer in a protection chain that must still begin with serious structural crash bars and, ideally, a skid plate. But in the meantime, it is also a layer that carries six liters of gear per side.

BHGB05T or BHGB11T: which version to choose

The Wanderer crash bar series comes in two variants that look similar but meet two different needs. This is the first decision to make, even before looking at the colors - and the difference is not just about inflation: the closure system and compatibility with the tubes also differ.

Technical specifications and dimensions

Data declared by the LOBOO manufacturer. Inflation range and pressure retention vary depending on temperature, altitude, and applied load. Measurements are taken manually and may have tolerances.

Crash bar compatibility

The BHGB05T is designed for 25 mm tubing, which is effectively the industry standard for adventure and dual-sport motorcycle crash bars, including LOBOO's. The interesting point, however, is not the diameter: it is the geometry. Crash bars are not all the same, and LOBOO's mounting system was designed specifically for this.

The mounting bracket has five selectable positioning points: choose the one that matches the shape of your engine guard, and the bag will align correctly without forcing, whether the frame is triangular, quadrangular, or irregular.

The practical advice remains simple: measure the outer diameter of your tubing with calipers before ordering and check how much free linear length you have available on the side where you want to mount the bag. How we tested the bags

Protection

In slow-speed falls, the air chamber does exactly what it promises: the bag makes contact first, the motorcycle rests at a more open angle, and the tubular frame never comes into direct contact with the ground. It is a real benefit, but limited to low speeds: in a violent impact, the bag collapses and the work falls entirely back on the crash bar.

Waterproofing

No infiltration. The 0.6 mm composite TPU fabric on an 840D mesh base and the waterproof zipper kept the entire contents dry even after two hours of heavy rain and passages through shallow water. The IPX7 rating is not marketing: it means protection against immersion, not merely resistance to splashes.

Pressure retention

The stated figure is conservative here. LOBOO declares a protective function duration of no less than 6 hours per inflation, and that is the number that serves as the minimum guarantee; in our test, the air chamber was still fully pressurized after 8 hours, and several customers report that their bags were still inflated the following day. A quick check at the beginning of the day remains good practice on long trips.

Inflation requires no pumps or accessories: open the valve with one finger, repeatedly press the integrated pump until the desired firmness is reached, and close the valve. Thirty seconds per side.

Capacity

Six liters per side is exactly right for what they are intended for: a puncture repair kit, mini compressor, spare gloves, chain and padlock, snacks, cables, and chain lubricant. They are not a substitute for pannier bags, nor do they claim to be.

Construction details and proper use

The waterproof zipper and the mistake to avoid

The waterproof zipper is what ensures the IPX7 rating and is also the most delicate component of the bag. Pinch it between your index and middle fingers and pull it along the guide; do not grasp it from the side with your fingers. It may seem like a trivial detail, but it is the difference between a zipper that slides smoothly for years and one that starts snagging after a season.

However, there is a second point that is more important and easy to overlook. When you close the bag, the internal pressure of the cargo compartment must be equal to the ambient pressure: if you compress the contents and seal it with excess air inside, the zipper remains under constant strain and its service life is significantly shortened. Inflation is for the dedicated air chamber, not the compartment where you put your belongings.

Cable lock anti-theft system

The BHGB05T incorporates a locking cable that secures the bag to the crash bar. LOBOO explicitly describes it as a primary anti-theft measure: it deters opportunistic grab-and-go theft during a stop but does not replace a serious security system. The cylinder can be coded to the same key number as the LOBOO aluminum cases, so you can travel with a single key for all your luggage.

Buckles and nighttime visibility

The buckles are Duraflex, a recognized standard in the outdoor industry: they open while wearing gloves, have no play, and withstand continuous opening and closing. The high-visibility reflective inserts on the outer panels highlight the motorcycle's side profile, the angle at which a large adventure motorcycle is least visible at night.

Pros and cons

Comparison with the alternatives

It is worth clarifying that the rows are not competing with one another: the most sensible configuration on a touring maxi enduro is structural crash bars with the inflatable bags mounted on top. The air protection works in the range where the tube alone is not enough to prevent scratches and dents to the fairing.

Step-by-step installation

1. Choose the bracket mounting point based on the shape of your crash bar, from the five available positions.
2. Tighten the bracket on the engine guard tube.
3. Pass the straps around the crash bar, following the geometry of the subframe.
4. Fasten the buckles in sequence and adjust the webbing length until the bag has no play or rotation.
5. Inflate the air chamber until it is firm but not excessively rigid, then check that the bag does not interfere with levers, radiator, lights, or your legs.
6. After 15–20 minutes, check the strap tension again and tighten if necessary: the fabric settles.

Mounted on a maxi enduro, the Wanderer bags occupy the empty space between the crash bars and fairing without widening the profile: the additional bulk is minimal and does not interfere with auxiliary lights or handguards.

No. They provide impact absorption in low-speed impacts and stationary falls, but they do not replace a structural crash bar or engine guard in high-energy impacts. They should be considered an additional level of protection, not an alternative.

How much can they really hold?

Manually, without accessories: open the valve by pressing the switch, repeatedly compress the integrated pump until it is full, and close the valve again. It only takes a few seconds per side.

How long do they hold pressure?

LOBOO states that the protective function lasts no less than 6 hours per inflation, which is the guaranteed minimum. In practice, the hold time is often longer: in our test, the chamber was still pressurized after 8 hours, and several customers report bags remaining inflated even the following day. For trips lasting several days, a quick check each morning is still advisable.

Which crash bars do they fit?

The BHGB05T inflatable model is designed for 25 mm tubing, the standard size for adventure crash bars, and the five-position mounting bracket adapts to triangular, square or irregular structures. The standard BHGB11T model is compatible with tubing of any diameter. What does IPX7 mean?

It is the highest water-protection rating in the non-professional range: it indicates protection against immersion to a depth of 1 meter for 30 minutes. In real-world use, this means heavy rain, mud and shallow crossings are not a problem.

How should the watertight zipper be used to make it last?

Pinch it between your index and middle fingers and pull it along the guide without tugging it sideways. Above all, close the bag when the pressure inside the cargo compartment is equal to the ambient pressure. Sealing the compartment with excess air subjects the zipper to constant stress, reducing its service life.

Is the anti-theft device reliable?

It is a primary anti-theft device, as the manufacturer itself defines it: the cable with lock secures the bag to the crash bar and discourages opportunistic theft during a stop, but it should not be considered the only security system. The cylinder can be keyed alike with the same key number as LOBOO aluminum cases.
