Description LOBOO Alps 23 L / 30 L Inflatable Saddlebags – Pair with Brackets

The LOBOO Alps Inflatable Side Bags are soft bags of 23 or 30 liters which, once inflated, create an air cushion between the motorcycle and the ground. The manufacturer states a load capacity of no less than 300 kg per inflated bag: in the event of a slide, it is that volume of air that works, not the subframe.

They are mounted on side pannier racks using an adjustable quick-release support, and there is only one requirement: 18 mm rectangular profile tube.

Main features

  • Passive protection ≥ 300 kg per inflated bag, with one-way valve and declared autonomy ≥ 6 hours
  • IPX7 waterproof with 0.6 mm 840D mesh composite TPU fabric and watertight zip
  • Anti-theft with steel cable and key lock, codable to the key of LOBOO aluminum cases
  • Quick release: the bag detaches from the support in a few seconds and can be carried by hand
  • MOLLE system on the outer panel, also compatible with attachments from other brands
  • Duraflex buckles, reflective inserts and expansion rings for extra load

Compatibility: the frame matters, not the bike

The support works on side pannier racks with a rectangular profile and 18 mm tube, with a wheelbase between 307 and 362 mm in width and between 180 and 207 mm in height. Direct fit on original BMW R 1200 GS and R 1250 GS frames and on LOBOO TIBET and PIKE TRACKER series. Official LOBOO photos also show mounting on KTM 1290 Super Adventure and Honda XL750 Transalp.

When spacers are needed

Many motorcycles with a protruding side exhaust pipe have the original pannier frame flared outwards to make space for the exhaust. This flaring must be compensated for, and this is the task of the BDPQ01LBK spacers, which you can add directly from the configuration selector: BMW R 1200 and R 1250 GS, KTM 1290 Super Adventure, Honda Africa Twin, Honda XL750 Transalp and models with the same geometry.

On the BMW R 1300 GS and R 1300 GS Adventure, spacers are not needed, because the frames are symmetrical. However, the short exhaust versions require the LOBOO CPQ131 exhaust deflector, a separate accessory.

Incompatible models

LOBOO expressly indicates Honda CB400X, CB500X, NX400 and NX500 and models with the same geometry as not compatible: on these motorcycles, the exhaust pipe is aligned with the bag and does not leave the necessary space. Frames with irregular or raised profiles and tubes with a diameter other than 18 mm are also excluded.

Main data

  • Models BAB23TBK and BAB30TBK, black color
  • Bag only: 380 × 150 × 400 mm (23 L) · 380 × 200 × 400 mm (30 L)
  • Bag with support: 420 × 190 × 420 mm (23 L) · 420 × 240 × 420 mm (30 L)
  • Bracket capacity: 12 kg per side on asphalt, 8 kg on uneven ground
  • The support also accepts side bags from other brands measuring 360–420 × 150–200 × 380–440 mm

LOBOO ships the old or new version of the product randomly. The front label, some aesthetic details and the internal fastening system change - the new version offers two fastening methods - while capacity, materials, measurements and performance remain identical. The indicated wheelbase is the valid range for both.

Why choose it
  • Luggage as protection:with the bag inflated, the manufacturer declares a load capacity of not less than 300 kg. In a low-speed slide, the air volume does the work, not the subframe.
  • IPX7 Waterproof:0.6 mm composite TPU fabric on 840D mesh and airtight waterproof zipper, without bag covers.
  • Detaches in seconds:the bag detaches from the support and can be carried by hand, the support remains on the motorcycle.
  • Key anti-theft:steel cable and cylinder codable with the same key as LOBOO aluminum cases.
  • MOLLE Modularity:external panel also compatible with attachments from other brands, plus expansion rings for extra load.
  • No dedicated frame needed:the support works on original BMW R 1200 and R 1250 GS frames and on any rectangular frame with an 18 mm tube.
Who is it recommended for

Mandatory requirement:side luggage racks already installed, with a rectangular profile, and 18 mm diameter tubing. The motorcycle model is not important, but the frame's geometry is.

They are the right choice for:

  • those who alternate between asphalt and light off-road and anticipate a low-speed fall;
  • those who already have original BMW R 1200 or R 1250 GS frames and don't want to buy a second dedicated frame;
  • those who prefer soft luggage over aluminum for weight and the absence of rigid edges;
  • those who detach their luggage every evening and want to take it to the hotel without tools.

They are not suitable if your frame has an irregular or raised profile, if the tubing is not 18 mm, or if the exhaust pipe is aligned with the bag.

Documents and manufacturer

Requirements and Checks

  • Rectangular profile side frame, 18 mm tube, wheelbase 307–362 mm in width and 180–207 mm in height. This range is valid for both product versions.
  • For frames not specified by the manufacturer, fastening requires drilling the frame: this is an irreversible operation and the user's responsibility.
  • Declared protection rating: IPX7. Not intended for prolonged immersion.
  • The inflatable protection is passive and accessory: it is not an approved safety device and does not replace engine guards or protective clothing.
  • Respect the maximum load for the side frame indicated by the motorcycle manufacturer and the protrusion limits of the Highway Code.
  • Lock cylinder prepared for unified LOBOO key coding.

How does it work, in detail?

The luggage that works like a pillow

The luggage that works like a pillow

The body of the bag is an air chamber. Inflated through the integrated one-way valve, it stiffens and comes between the motorcycle and the ground: in a low-speed slide, it is that volume of air that absorbs the impact, not the subframe or the edge of a hard case.

The manufacturer states that the inflated bag can support at least 300 kg and that the protection remains effective for at least 6 hours per inflation. It remains an additional passive protective measure: it is not an approved device and does not replace crash bars or protective clothing.

Inflates by hand: it includes a small pump, so no compressor is needed.

Inflates by hand: it includes a small pump, so no compressor is needed.

The valve is one-way and has an integrated pump: no compressor or separate pump to carry with you. Three steps, less than a minute per bag.

  • Open the valve by pressing the switch downward
  • Repeatedly compress the pump until it reaches your desired firmness
  • Close the valve by pressing the switch upward

To deflate, there is no release valve: open the watertight zipper and the air will escape. It feels counterintuitive the first time, but this is the correct procedure. Actions other than those specified in the manual will damage the valve.

Inflation lasts at least six hours.

Inflation lasts at least six hours.

The manufacturer states that the protection lasts at least 6 hours per inflation. In practice, it covers a full day of travel: inflate it in the morning at departure and check it again during the long stop.

The bag remains usable even when deflated, simply without the cushioning effect. It is still best to keep it inflated: it is when inflated that it supports the stated 300 kg and maintains its shape under load.

The frame counts, not the motorcycle: 18 mm tube

The frame counts, not the motorcycle: 18 mm tube

The quick-release mount works with side luggage racks featuring a rectangular profile and 18 mm tubing, with a width between 307 and 362 mm and a height between 180 and 207 mm. It fits directly on the original BMW R 1200 GS and R 1250 GS racks, as well as the LOBOO TIBET and PIKE TRACKER series.

Racks with an irregular or raised profile, tubing of a different diameter, or an exhaust outlet aligned with the bag are not compatible: LOBOO explicitly cites the Honda CB400X, CB500X, NX400, and NX500. Measure your rack before ordering.

The support only needs to be prepared once.

The support only needs to be prepared once.

The system consists of three parts: the inflatable bag, the attachment pocket, and the nylon and aluminum support. The support arrives already assembled, but before the first installation it must be adapted to your motorcycle and the selected capacity.

Move the attachments to the positions on your frame using the supplied T25 Allen key, then pass the Velcro strap through the holes in the support. The label shows two marked positions, one for the 23 L configuration and one for the 30 L configuration: choosing the wrong one means the bag will not sit flat.

Spacers: when they’re needed and when they’re not

Spacers: when they’re needed and when they’re not

On many motorcycles with a protruding side exhaust muffler, the original pannier frame is flared outward to leave room for the muffler. That flare needs to be compensated for; otherwise, the bag will not sit flat. The BDPQ01LBK spacers provide this compensation.

They are required for the BMW R 1200 and R 1250 GS, KTM 1290 Super Adventure, Honda Africa Twin, and generally all motorcycles with this geometry. They are not required for the BMW R 1300 GS and R 1300 GS Adventure, which have symmetrical frames; on those models, the bag already sits correctly.

Select them directly from the configuration menu above. If you are unsure whether your motorcycle needs them, send us a photo of the frame from the exhaust side.

How to tell if you need spacers

How to tell if you need spacers

Look at your luggage rack from the exhaust side. If the tube is straight and passes behind the muffler, you don't need anything. If the rack curves outward to clear the muffler, that curve needs to be compensated for: without spacers, the bag won't sit flat.

The spacers can be adjusted between 49.5 and 71 mm, and you can add them directly from the configuration menu above. They are needed on the BMW R 1200 and R 1250 GS, KTM 1290 Super Adventure, Honda Africa Twin, and all motorcycles with the same geometry.

If in doubt, send us a photo of the rack from the exhaust side: it will be clear immediately.

IPX7: 840D TPU fabric and waterproof zipper

IPX7: 840D TPU fabric and waterproof zipper

The fabric is a composite TPU over 840D mesh, 0.6 mm thick, sealed with an airtight waterproof zipper: it is the same closure used for inflation, and the manufacturer’s stated rating is IPX7.

The zipper has an auxiliary zipper pull and a T-shaped slider because a waterproof closure offers resistance: operate it by pinching the slider between your index and middle fingers while holding the handle with your other hand. The lubricant provided, applied occasionally, keeps it moving smoothly.

It detaches in seconds and locks securely.

It detaches in seconds and locks securely.

The bag detaches from the mount by hand: the mount stays on the motorcycle, while the bag can be carried into the hotel. That is the practical difference between a soft bag secured with straps and a true side case.

The steel anti-theft cable with cylinder lock protects against anyone approaching the parked motorcycle. The cylinder can be keyed alike to the same key as the LOBOO aluminum cases: this must be requested when placing the order by specifying the key number.

12 kg on-road, 8 off-road

12 kg on-road, 8 off-road

The support bracket is rated for 12 kg per side on asphalt and 8 kg on uneven ground. The difference is not a matter of caution: off-road, the stresses on the mounting point greatly exceed the static weight of the luggage.

The external MOLLE panel and expansion loops allow you to attach pouches, bottle holders, or a tent without drilling anything, and the support also accepts panniers from other brands measuring 360–420 × 150–200 × 380–440 mm.

Two versions in circulation, same performance

Two versions in circulation, same performance

LOBOO ships either the old or new version at random. The front label, some cosmetic details, and the internal mounting system differ; the new version offers two methods instead of one.

The capacity, materials, dimensions, and performance are identical, and the center-to-center distances we publish apply to both versions. You cannot choose which one you receive: if this matters to you, contact us before ordering and we’ll check what we have in stock.

FAQs

For more information, please see our FAQ.

Which frames do they fit?

For rectangular-profile side luggage racks with 18 mm diameter tubing, with a center-to-center distance of between 307 and 362 mm in width and between 180 and 207 mm in height. It fits directly onto the original BMW R 1200 GS and R 1250 GS racks and the LOBOO TIBET and PIKE TRACKER series.

These values are the valid range for both product versions, as LOBOO ships either the old or the new version. The new version offers two mounting methods and covers a wider height range, but we cannot guarantee which one you will receive.

Other rectangular racks of a similar size can be used, but they require drilling the mounting points, which is irreversible work on the rack. If you have any doubts, send us a photo of the side of the motorcycle and we will check it together.

When are spacers needed?

The LOBOO BDPQ01LBK spacers compensate for the flare in the original luggage racks. They are needed on motorcycles with a protruding side exhaust, where the rack is angled outward to make room for the exhaust: BMW R 1200 and R 1250 GS, KTM 1290 Super Adventure, Honda Africa Twin, and models with the same geometry.

They are not needed on the BMW R 1300 GS and R 1300 GS Adventure, which have symmetrical racks. However, on these two models, the short-exhaust version requires the LOBOO CPQ131 exhaust deflector, which is a different accessory and must be purchased separately.

If you're unsure, send us a photo of the rack from the exhaust side and we'll confirm it before you purchase.

How are they inflated and deflated?

The small pump is integrated into the valve, so neither a compressor nor an external pump is needed. Open the valve by pressing the switch downward, repeatedly compress the pump until it reaches the firmness you want, then close it by pressing the switch upward. Less than a minute per bag.

To deflate it, open the watertight zipper: the valve is one-way and has no release. It may seem counterintuitive the first time, but this is the manufacturer’s procedure, and other methods can damage the valve.

How long does an inflation last? Do I need to re-inflate them every day?

The manufacturer states that each inflation lasts at least 6 hours: enough to cover a day of travel. In practice, inflate it in the morning and check it during a long stop, reinflating it if the bag has lost rigidity.

When deflated, it can still be used as a bag: it loses the cushioning effect, not its function as luggage.

Do I need to keep them inflated while driving?

Yes, and that is the purpose of the product: the bag supports the stated 300 kg and maintains its shape under load when inflated. When deflated, it loses both its protection and its ability to retain its shape.

Do they fit the Honda CB400X, CB500X, NX400, or NX500?

No. LOBOO explicitly lists these models among the incompatible cases: on their side frame, the exhaust outlet is aligned with the bag and does not leave the necessary clearance.

Irregularly shaped or raised-profile frames are also incompatible, as are those with tubing of a diameter other than 18 mm.

How do I know if I need spacers?

Look at the pannier rack from the exhaust side. If the tube is straight and passes behind the muffler, they are not needed. If, instead, the rack curves outward to clear the muffler, that curve must be compensated for with BDPQ01LBK spacers, adjustable between 49.5 and 71 mm and selectable from the menu above.

They are typically needed for the BMW R 1200 and R 1250 GS, KTM 1290 Super Adventure, and Honda Africa Twin. If in doubt, send us a photo of the rack from the exhaust side.

I have a BMW R 1300 GS: what do I need?

On the R 1300 GS and R 1300 GS Adventure, the frames are symmetrical, so spacers are not needed: simply use the configuration without them.

The LOBOO CPQ131 exhaust deflector is an optional accessory, not a requirement. It is not necessary for mounting the bags, but it keeps the exhaust outlet at a safe distance, and many people add it for peace of mind, especially on versions with a short exhaust.

Will I receive the old version or the new one?

LOBOO states that the old and new versions are shipped at random, so we cannot guarantee which one will arrive.

The differences are cosmetic and concern the label on the front panel—"23/30 LITERS WATERPROOF" on the old version and "ALPS SERIES WATERPROOF" on the new one—as well as some details of the outer panel. The capacity, materials, dimensions, mounting system, and stated performance are identical.

If you need a specific version, let us know before ordering: we will check what we actually have in stock.

Can I use the rack with bags from other brands?

Yes. The manufacturer states that panniers from other brands measuring between 360 and 420 mm in length, 150 and 200 mm in width, and 380 and 440 mm in height are compatible. The external MOLLE panel also accepts attachments from other brands.

What’s in the package?

For each bag, according to the LOBOO user manual parts list: the inflatable bag, the pre-assembled mounting bracket, the external pocket, the lock cylinder with its retaining clip, one key, a T25 Allen key, and a zipper lubricant.

The quick-release straps for securing the bag to the seat are not included and must be purchased separately.

How much weight can I load on each side?

The support bracket is rated for 12 kg per side on asphalt and 8 kg on uneven terrain. The difference is not excessive caution: off-road, the stresses on the mounting point are much higher than the static weight.

In any case, observe the maximum load for each side frame specified by the motorcycle manufacturer in the owner's manual.

What is the purpose of the inflation, and how long does it last?

The body of the bag is an air chamber: inflating it through the integrated one-way valve makes the bag rigid and turns it into a cushion between the motorcycle and the ground. The manufacturer states that an inflated bag can support at least 300 kg and that the protection remains effective for at least 6 hours per inflation.

It is inflated by repeatedly pressing the valve's pump and deflated by opening the waterproof zip. It is an additional passive protective accessory, not an approved safety device: it does not replace engine guards or protective clothing.
