Motorcycle handlebar risers: which height should you choose for your bike?

Aggiornato il Motorcycle Accessories News
Coppia di riser manubrio LOBOO montati su BMW R 1300 GS, finitura anodizzata argento

A handlebar riser does not add random centimeters: it moves the point where your hands grip the motorcycle along two different axes, upward and backward, and the difference between the two determines whether the problem you are trying to solve — burning wrists, a hunched back, arms stretched out when you stand on the foot pegs — actually disappears or remains. LOBOO produces risers specific to fourteen motorcycle combinations, from the BMW R 1300 GS to the Suzuki V-Strom 800DE, with declared rises between 12 and 30 mm and prices between €27 and €81 per pair. Below is the complete table with the manufacturer's stated measurements, the check that should always be performed after installation, and how to choose between a rise-only kit and one with pullback.

In brief. A handlebar riser raises and/or moves the handlebar's grip point backward relative to the top triple clamp, without affecting the suspension or steering geometry. LOBOO offers 14 motorcycle-specific kits, developed using each motorcycle's original 3D data, with declared rises between 12 and 30 mm and prices between €27 and €81 per pair.

The check you must never skip: after installation, with the steering turned fully to both sides, check that the cables and brake and clutch lines have sufficient slack. LOBOO states that the original cables are long enough for most models, but does not guarantee this for all of them.

Actual availability: at the moment, only 2 of the 14 codes are immediately in stock at the Endurrad warehouse. For the others, the link in the table leads to the collection, where availability is updated in real time.

A riser works along two axes, and the choice depends on the symptom

Before looking at the table, it is worth understanding what you are actually buying, because "riser" is not a single measurement.

The rise moves the handlebar upward: this is the axis that matters when you stand on the foot pegs and find yourself holding your arms straight to reach the grips. Pullback, on the other hand, brings it closer to your torso: this is the axis that matters when the problem is a hunched back even while seated, with your shoulders rounded forward because the handlebar is too far away, not too low.

These are different problems, and the LOBOO range addresses them differently. Nine of the fourteen kits work only on rise: BMW R 1300 GS (29 mm), BMW R 1250 GS / R 1200 GS / S 1000 XR (30 mm), KTM Adventure and Husqvarna (19 mm), VOGE DS525X/DS625X (25 mm), Aprilia Tuareg 660 (25 mm), Honda CB500X/NX400/NX500 (20 mm), CFMOTO 800MT-X (20 mm), Suzuki V-Strom 800DE (25 mm) and Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Pro (25 mm).

Five kits combine the two axes. The clearest example is the CJG033 for the BMW F 850 GS and F 900 GS: 19 mm of rise but 25 mm of setback, the only one in the range where setback exceeds rise. LOBOO explains it this way: on these mid-displacement GS models, the typical problem is not height but the distance to the handlebars. The same logic, with different measurements, applies to the CJG031 for the F 800 GS (2025+) and F 750 GS (23 mm + 20 mm), the CJG281 for the Honda NC750X and CB400X (24 mm + 18 mm), the CJG91 offset for the Triumph Tiger 900 and 850 Sport (just 12 mm of rise but 20 mm of setback), and the CJG683 for the Benelli TRK 552X (28 mm + 16.8 mm, the most generous rise in the range).

All bodies are machined from high-strength aluminum alloy using CNC machinery: this is the only feature stated in common across the entire range. Where the manufacturer specifies the contents in detail (as with the CJG071 for the R 1200/1250 GS), the package includes dedicated hardware — two M8×30 bolts, four M8×35 bolts, two M8×35 flat-head bolts, plus threadlocker — but the same level of detail is not always provided for the other codes: if you need the bolt list before ordering, request it with the make, model, and year.

The check that determines whether the riser is enough or something else is needed

LOBOO CJG033 handlebar riser with rise and setback for BMW F 850 GS and F 900 GS
On the CJG033, the setback (25 mm) exceeds the rise (19 mm): it is the kit with the geometry that differs most from the rest of the range.

LOBOO declares non-destructive and reversible installation across the entire range: the risers mount to the original mounting points, with no drilling or cutting, and removing them returns the motorcycle to its original condition. But "reversible" does not mean "without checks".

This is not optional. After installation, with the steering turned fully to both sides, check that the cables, brake lines, and clutch line are not pulled tight or rubbing. LOBOO states this explicitly on every product page, and the wording is always the same: with the original cables, the slack is sufficient "in most cases, not all".

The level of risk is not the same for every kit. For the Honda CB500X and the Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Pro, the manufacturer states that the rise remains within the tolerance of the stock cables, with no need to bleed the brake system or replace any lines. On the KTM/Husqvarna, the 19 mm measurement was specifically chosen to remain within the slack of the original cables. On the Benelli TRK 552X, which has the highest rise in the range (28 mm), LOBOO warns that the check "is more important than ever". And on kits with substantial setback - especially the BMW F 800 GS/F 750 GS, with 20 mm - the remaining clearance toward the fuel tank must also be checked, not just the cables.

  • Install the riser using the hardware specified for your part number, without replacing bolts with others of a different length.
  • Turn the steering fully right and fully left, with the motorcycle stationary, before setting off.
  • Visually inspect the clutch cable, front brake line, and handlebar wiring: none of them should be taut or rub against the fairing or fuel tank.
  • If the kit has setback, also check the clearance between the handlebar and the fuel tank with the steering straight and at full lock.
  • Take a short test ride on a smooth surface at low speed before returning to normal riding: this recommendation applies to any riser installation, not just LOBOO ones.
Source: the general recommendations for checks after installation (cable and hose clearance, test ride on a smooth surface) follow the safety guidelines published by the British manufacturer AS3 Performance for installing handlebar risers in general, and are not specific to the LOBOO product.

Is it legal to install a riser? What you should know before ordering

There is no single answer that applies to every motorcycle and every combination of measurements, and being wary of anyone who claims otherwise with certainty is the first thing to do. Italian guides on customizing motorcycles are clear on one point: modifications that significantly alter the dimensions, geometry, or position of the controls should not be treated as mere aesthetics and must be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

LOBOO risers remain within modest dimensions (12-30 mm) and are described as reversible, without any work on the motorcycle's structure. However, we cannot provide a general legal assessment: if you have doubts about your specific motorcycle, the country where it is registered, or an upcoming inspection, the safest choice is to ask an authorized homologation workshop first rather than relying solely on "universal" descriptions found online.

Which riser to choose based on what you feel in the saddle

LOBOO handlebar risers for Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Pro, pair in silver anodized alloy
On the Tiger 1200 GT Pro, the 25 mm rise falls within the tolerance of the original cables, LOBOO states: no bleeding of the brake system is required.
  • Your arms remain straight when you stand on the footpegs, but you are comfortable when seated: you need a rise-only kit - BMW R 1250/1200 GS, VOGE DS525X/DS625X, Aprilia Tuareg 660, Honda CB500X, Suzuki V-Strom 800DE, or Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Pro, depending on the motorcycle.
  • You feel your back curving even when seated and your shoulders closing forward: the issue is distance, not height - look at setback kits: BMW F 850/900 GS, BMW F 800/750 GS, Honda NC750X/CB400X, Triumph Tiger 900/850 Sport, or Benelli TRK 552X.
  • Not sure which of the two: kits with both axes are the most common compromise in the LOBOO range and cover most of the real complaints reported on mid-displacement GS models.
  • Your model is not listed: write to us with the make, model, and year - we will check whether a code is already in development or whether a different solution is needed.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly does a handlebar riser do?

It raises and/or moves back the point where your hands grip the handlebar relative to the top yoke. It does not modify the suspension, steering angle, or the motorcycle's homologation: it only changes the position of your hands relative to the rest of the chassis.

Is a universal riser better, or one specific to my model?

LOBOO develops its kits using the original 3D data for each motorcycle: the mounting points and tolerances match the standard ones, with no adaptations. Some parts are marked L and R because they are mirror images and are not interchangeable between the two sides.

Do I need to drill or modify the motorcycle to fit it?

No. LOBOO states that installation is non-destructive across the entire range: the risers are mounted on the original mounting points and, when removed, the motorcycle returns to its original condition.

How many millimeters of rise do I need?

It depends on the symptom, not on a standard measurement. If the problem occurs only when standing on the footpegs, a lift-only kit (20-30 mm) is sufficient. If your back still feels hunched when seated, you need a kit with setback, which brings the handlebar closer to your torso instead of merely raising it.

Do I need to extend the cables or brake lines after fitting the riser?

For most models, no, according to LOBOO, but not all: the check must always be carried out with the handlebars turned fully to both sides before considering the installation complete.

Is it legal to fit a handlebar riser in Italy?

Modifications that significantly alter the dimensions, geometry, or position of the controls must be assessed on a case-by-case basis and not treated as simple cosmetic customization. LOBOO risers remain within limited dimensions and are declared reversible, but for advice on your specific motorcycle, it is best to consult a workshop authorized to handle homologation matters.

Does the riser void the motorcycle's warranty?

We cannot generalize: the answer varies from manufacturer to manufacturer and from dealer to dealer. Check with your service network before fitting it, especially if the motorcycle is still under warranty.

Which motorcycles does the LOBOO riser range cover today?

BMW R 1300 GS, R 1200/1250 GS and S 1000 XR, F 850/900 GS, F 800/750 GS; KTM Adventure and Husqvarna Norden/FE 350; Honda NC750X, CB400X, CB500X, NX400, NX500; Triumph Tiger 900, 850 Sport and Tiger 1200 GT Pro; Aprilia Tuareg 660; VOGE DS525X and DS625X; Benelli TRK 552X; CFMOTO 800MT-X; Suzuki V-Strom 800DE.

What is included in the package?

The pair of risers is always included. The dedicated hardware is described in detail only for some codes (for example, the kit for the R 1200/1250 GS, which lists every bolt); where it is not specified, LOBOO nevertheless indicates installation without additional hardware compared with the original, unless otherwise stated on the individual product page.

How much do LOBOO risers cost?

From €27 to €81 per pair, depending on the motorcycle model and kit complexity (rise only or rise plus setback).

If my code is out of stock, can I still order it?

Tell us the make, model, and year: we will check the restocking times. The handlebar riser collection page always shows availability updated in real time.

Does the riser interfere with a tank bag or handlebar bag?

Generally not, but with kits featuring greater setback, it is worth checking the remaining space toward the tank: LOBOO explicitly notes this for the BMW F 800 GS/F 750 GS kit, which moves the handlebar 20 mm toward the rider.

What is the difference between rise and setback?

The rise moves the handlebar upward along the vertical axis. The setback brings it closer to your torso along the horizontal axis. They are different adjustments for different problems, and some LOBOO kits combine both in the same pair of risers.

Does the riser change the setup or suspension settings?

No. It only affects the position of your hands relative to the rest of the motorcycle: it does not affect the suspension, steering angle, or frame geometry.

Can I reinstall the handlebar in its original position if I change my mind?

Yes. LOBOO states that installation is reversible across the entire range: remove the risers and reinstall the handlebar in its stock position.

If you cannot find the code for your motorcycle, or are unsure whether you need rise or setback, tell us the make, model, and year: we will verify compatibility and availability before you order.

Looking for the right riser for your motorcycle?

Tell us the make, model, and year of your motorcycle: we will verify exact compatibility and code availability before you order, helping you avoid returns over a detail that can be checked beforehand.

Check with your service network before fitting it, especially if the motorcycle is still under warranty.\nWhich motorcycles does the LOBOO riser range cover today?\nBMW R 1300 GS, R 1200\/1250 GS and S 1000 XR, F 850\/900 GS, F 800\/750 GS; KTM Adventure and Husqvarna Norden\/FE 350; Honda NC750X, CB400X, CB500X, NX400, NX500; Triumph Tiger 900, 850 Sport and Tiger 1200 GT Pro; Aprilia Tuareg 660; VOGE DS525X and DS625X; Benelli TRK 552X; CFMOTO 800MT-X; Suzuki V-Strom 800DE.\nWhat is included in the package?\nThe pair of risers is always included. The dedicated hardware is described in detail only for some codes (for example, the kit for the R 1200\/1250 GS, which lists every bolt); where it is not specified, LOBOO nevertheless indicates installation without additional hardware compared with the original, unless otherwise stated on the individual product page.\nHow much do LOBOO risers cost?\nFrom €27 to €81 per pair, depending on the motorcycle model and kit complexity (rise only or rise plus setback).\nIf my code is out of stock, can I still order it?\nTell us the make, model, and year: we will check the restocking times. The handlebar riser collection page always shows availability updated in real time.\nDoes the riser interfere with a tank bag or handlebar bag?\nGenerally not, but with kits featuring greater setback, it is worth checking the remaining space toward the tank: LOBOO explicitly notes this for the BMW F 800 GS\/F 750 GS kit, which moves the handlebar 20 mm toward the rider.\nWhat is the difference between rise and setback?\nThe rise moves the handlebar upward along the vertical axis. The setback brings it closer to your torso along the horizontal axis. They are different adjustments for different problems, and some LOBOO kits combine both in the same pair of risers.\nDoes the riser change the setup or suspension settings?\nNo. It only affects the position of your hands relative to the rest of the motorcycle: it does not affect the suspension, steering angle, or frame geometry.\nCan I reinstall the handlebar in its original position if I change my mind?\nYes. LOBOO states that installation is reversible across the entire range: remove the risers and reinstall the handlebar in its stock position.\nIf you cannot find the code for your motorcycle, or are unsure whether you need rise or setback, tell us the make, model, and year: we will verify compatibility and availability before you order.\n\n\nLooking for the right riser for your motorcycle?\nTell us the make, model, and year of your motorcycle: we will verify exact compatibility and code availability before you order, helping you avoid returns over a detail that can be checked beforehand.\nSee all LOBOO handlebar risers\n\nFurther reading: BMW GS 1250 travel setup · touring motorcycle seat covers · LOBOO ergonomics and comfort\n\n\n","headline":"Motorcycle handlebar risers: which height should you choose for your bike?","description":"Rise or setback?
