Everything you need to know before ordering

Compatibility, included items, installation, and documents: below is every detail verified against the official Barkbusters documentation.

Description Barkbusters LED-002 white LED position lights for handguard plastics

The LED-002 are a pair of white LED position lights to be recessed into the plastics of Barkbusters handguards. They remain lit and do not flash: the indicators are the amber LED-001, a different part number.

Fifteen LEDs per light, low power consumption, and the manufacturer declares them approved with an E-mark as position lights.

The problem they solve

Cars now all drive with their daytime running lights on, and in traffic a motorcycle is less noticeable. By mounting two lights on the handguards, the light points move toward the outside of the handlebar: to oncoming traffic, the motorcycle appears wider and is recognized sooner.

Where they are mounted

Plastic Permitted position
JET Upper surface only
VPS Upper surface, lower surface, or both
STORM Upper surface, lower surface, or both

The manufacturer does not list the EGO, SABRE, and CARBON plastics.

They can be combined with the indicators

The double-sided design of VPS and STORM exists precisely for this reason: the official PDF explains that mounting them on both surfaces makes it possible to have the position light and indicator on the same plastic. White on top, amber underneath. The two lights are purchased separately.

Installation requires drilling

The official PDF includes a paper template to be cut out precisely and secured to the back of the plastic. The specified tools are a 4 mm drill bit, an 8 mm drill bit, and a Phillips screwdriver. The hole is permanent: it is worth measuring twice.

The yellow and black wires from the two lights connect to the supplied connection cable. The manufacturer instructs you to switch off the engine and disconnect the battery before working on the electrical system.

What you will find in the package

  • Two white LED lights, 15 LEDs each, with approximately 700 mm of cable per side.
  • Connection cable between the two sides.
  • Drilling template in the instructions.

What is NOT included

  • Handguard plastics, which must already be installed on the motorcycle or must be purchased separately.

Why choose it
Who is it recommended for

Assembly and documents

It makes you look wider

  • Two lights outside the handlebars: to anyone approaching from the front, the motorcycle appears wider and is noticed sooner.

All cars drive with their daytime running lights on, making a motorcycle less noticeable in traffic. By placing two lights on the outside of the handlebars, the illuminated outline becomes wider: oncoming drivers recognize sooner that there is a vehicle and how wide it is.

On VPS and STORM units, you can drill both above and below, and the official PDF explains that this is exactly what it is for: a white position light above and an amber turn signal below, on the same plastic. The two lights are separate codes and are purchased separately.

Where they are mounted, plastic by plastic

Where they are mounted, plastic by plastic

It is not the same for all of them. On the JET models, the manufacturer allows only the top surface; on the VPS and STORM models, you can choose the top, bottom, or both. This is the first check to make, because drilling is permanent.

FAQs

For more information, see our FAQ of frequently asked questions.

Are they position lights or turn signals?

They are position lights: they stay on and do not flash. The manufacturer states that they are approved with an E-mark as position lights. The turn signals, on the other hand, are the amber LED-001, a different code.

What are they really for?

To widen your illuminated silhouette. With cars now all driving with their daytime running lights on, a motorcycle is less noticeable in traffic. Two lights on the handguards move the illuminated points toward the outside of the handlebars, making the motorcycle appear wider and more recognizable to oncoming traffic.

What types of plastic can they be mounted on?

On three series, with one important difference: on JET, only on the upper surface; on VPS and STORM, on the upper surface, the lower surface, or both.

Can I install them together with the amber turn signals?

Yes, and it is intended by the manufacturer: the official PDF explains that mounting VPS and STORM on both sides is specifically meant to combine position and turn signal on the same plastic. White on top, amber underneath. The two lights are purchased separately.

Do I need to drill the plastic parts? What tools are needed?

Yes. The official PDF includes a paper template to cut precisely along the line and attach to the back of the plastic with transparent tape. The specified tools are a 4 mm drill bit, an 8 mm drill bit, and a Phillips screwdriver.

Is the LED-RES-001 resistor also needed for these?

No. The resistor is used to correct the turn signals' flashing frequency, and these do not flash. The manufacturer lists it as an optional accessory only for the amber LED-001.

Are they approved?

The manufacturer declares approval with the E-mark as a position light. The user is responsible for verifying that their motorcycle's system complies with current regulations: the official PDF advises obtaining the necessary authorizations where required.

How do they connect to the system?

The yellow and black wires from the two lights connect to the supplied junction cable, matching the colors in the connectors. The PDF instructs you to turn off the engine and disconnect the battery before working on the electrical system.

Are the plastic parts included?

No. The package includes the two lights with the wiring and the connection cable. The JET, VPS, or STORM plastics must already be on the motorcycle or purchased separately.

Is the cable long enough?

Each LED has approximately 700 mm of cable, or 27.5 inches, plus the connecting cable that joins the two sides. For most motorcycles, this is sufficient without extensions.

Can I mount them on EGO, SABRE, or CARBON plastics?

The manufacturer declares only JET, VPS, and STORM. EGO, SABRE, and CARBON are not on the list, and we do not extend compatibility by analogy. If this applies to you, write to us.

I have a Honda Africa Twin: do the same restrictions as for turn signals apply?

The manufacturer states that the LED-001 turn signals are incompatible with the Honda CRF 1000L and 1100L Africa Twin, not these position lights: the issue concerns the flasher circuit. There is no equivalent warning for this part number, but if you have that motorcycle, it is advisable to have the connection confirmed by an auto electrician.
