The BHG-082 in black powder-coated finish is the Barkbusters mounting kit designed around the handlebar geometry of the Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin and the Africa Twin Adventure Sports, from 2020 onward. It is the structure that supports the handguards: it protects your hands, levers and controls from branches, gravel and low-speed falls, and stays on the bike even when you change the plastics.

It fits both the version with a DCT gearbox and the manual version: the manufacturer lists them together. And as with the entire range, the structure and protective plastics are two separate items: here you purchase the structure alone, with hardware and handlebar weights.

Protection and use

The Africa Twin is a motorcycle you take where the road ends, and there your hands are the most exposed part: branches, gravel thrown up by the rider ahead, and the stationary fall that happens to everyone when a foot slips while crossing a ford. The two-point mounting is what Barkbusters designed specifically for this: the bar forms a cage around the hand and transfers the impact to the structure instead of the lever. On an adventure touring motorcycle, it is not an aesthetic detail; it is the difference between carrying on and looking for a workshop. The single-point configuration, the other option in the range, is specified by the manufacturer only for protection from wind and weather.

Materials and construction

Heat-treated aluminum structure, a process the manufacturer uses to increase strength and impact absorption, with black powder coating. The design is wraparound: it starts from the straight section of the handlebar, curves around the hand and closes at the end.

Pay attention to the number. This is the code for the CRF1100L. For the CRF1000L, from 2016 to 2019, the manufacturer specifies the BHG-062 kit.

Installation

Mounts on the original handlebar, with no drilling or modifications to the motorcycle. The stock handlebar weights must be removed because the structure anchors directly at the handlebar end, and the supplied weights are used in their place.

Before fully tightening, check that the throttle, front brake, clutch and engine stop switch operate freely and that the steering turns from lock to lock without interference. Check the tightening again after the first 50 km. What is NOT included

  • Protective plastics. They must be selected and ordered separately from the JET, VPS, STORM and CARBON series. EGO plastics are not compatible with this structure.
  • Barkbusters LED lights. In addition to being a separate item, the manufacturer states that the LED-001 lights are not compatible with the Honda CRF1000L and CRF1100L Africa Twin.

On Africa Twins with dark liveries, the bar blends into the overall look instead of creating two shiny sections beside the handlebars, and scratches are less noticeable than you might expect because powder coating is thicker than spray paint.

The clamp closes around the straight section of the handlebar, in front of the controls, and is shaped to fit between the cables and hoses of the CRF1100L. It is the part that turns the handguard into a cage around your hand: without it, the bar would work cantilevered from the end alone.

Frenafiletti di media resistenza su tutti i fissaggi. Il produttore considera il montaggio dei paramani un intervento rilevante per la sicurezza, da affidare a un tecnico se non hai dimestichezza.

Are the protective plastic parts included?

No. Here you purchase only the black aluminum frame with the hardware and counterweights. The JET, VPS, STORM, or CARBON plastics are ordered separately, remain interchangeable on the same frame, and can also be changed years later.

My model is listed in the table, but the year isn’t: can I still install it?

No. The years in the table are those stated by the manufacturer and are not extended by deduction: the same motorcycle changes kit when the handlebar changes. Write to us with the model and year, and we’ll verify the correct part number before you order.

I have the DCT version: do I need a different kit?

No, it is the same. The manufacturer explicitly lists both the CRF1100L with DCT transmission and the one with a manual transmission under code BHG-082, because the handlebar and control layout do not change.

Are the handlebar counterweights included?

Yes, the manufacturer states that they are included. The motorcycle's standard bar-end weights must be removed because the structure attaches directly to the end of the handlebar, and the supplied ones are installed in their place.

I have a CRF1000L Africa Twin: is this kit suitable?

No. BHG-082 is the part number for the CRF1100L, from 2020 onward. For the CRF1000L, from 2016 to 2019, the manufacturer specifies part number BHG-062. The handlebar differs between the two generations, and the clamp does not fit in the same space.

What is the difference compared with the aluminum version BHG-082-NP?

Only the finish: same structure, same compatibility, same hardware, same counterweights. This one is powder-coated black; the other is natural aluminum. The manufacturer keeps both in its catalog and publishes an instruction PDF for each: it is purely an aesthetic choice.
