The BHG-082 in natural aluminum is the Barkbusters mounting kit designed around the handlebar geometry of the Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin and the Africa Twin Adventure Sports, from 2020 onward. It is the structure that supports the handguards: it protects hands, levers, and controls from branches, loose stones, and low-speed falls, and remains on the bike even when you change the plastics.

It fits both the version with a DCT gearbox and the manual version: the manufacturer lists them together. As with the entire range, the structure and protective plastics are two separate products: here you are buying the structure only, with hardware and handlebar weights.

Protection and use

The Africa Twin is a motorcycle you take where the road ends, and that is where your hands are most exposed: branches, loose stones thrown up by the rider ahead, and the stationary fall that happens to everyone when a foot slips while crossing a stream. The two-point mounting is what Barkbusters designed specifically for this: the bar forms a cage around the hand and transfers the impact to the structure instead of the lever. On a touring motorcycle, it is not an aesthetic detail; it is the difference between carrying on and looking for a workshop. The single-point configuration, the other option in the range, is specified by the manufacturer only for protection from wind and weather.

Materials and construction

Structure made of heat-treated aluminum, a process the manufacturer uses to increase strength and impact absorption. The design is wraparound: it starts at the straight section of the handlebar, curves around the hand, and closes at the end. Here, the surface remains exposed, without paint.

Compatibility declared by Barkbusters for motorcycles in original factory configuration. Aftermarket handlebars may have different diameters and wall thicknesses: mounting must be checked before purchase. Unsure about your model? Contact us with the model and year.

Pay attention to the number. This is the code for the CRF1100L. For the CRF1000L, from 2016 to 2019, the manufacturer specifies the BHG-062 kit.

Installation

Mounts on the original handlebar, with no drilling or modifications to the motorcycle. The stock handlebar weights must be removed because the structure anchors directly to the handlebar ends, and the supplied weights are installed in their place.

Before fully tightening, check that the throttle, front brake, clutch, and engine stop switch operate freely and that the steering turns from lock to lock without interference. Recheck the tightening after the first 50 km. Are the protective plastic parts included?

No. Here you purchase only the aluminum frame with the screws and counterweights. The JET, VPS, STORM, or CARBON plastic parts are ordered separately, remain interchangeable on the same frame, and can also be changed years later. The gallery photos show the same kit with all four series.

My model is listed in the table, but the year isn’t: can I still install it?

No. The years in the table are those stated by the manufacturer and are not extended by deduction: the same motorcycle changes kit when the handlebar changes. Write to us with the model and year, and we’ll verify the correct part number before you order.

I have the DCT version: do I need a different kit?

No, it is the same. The manufacturer explicitly lists both the CRF1100L with DCT transmission and the one with a manual transmission under code BHG-082, because the handlebar and control layout do not change.

Are the handlebar counterweights included?

Yes, the manufacturer states that they are included. The motorcycle's standard bar-end weights must be removed because the structure attaches directly to the end of the handlebar, and the supplied ones are installed in their place.

I have a CRF1000L Africa Twin: is this kit suitable?

No. BHG-082 is the part number for the CRF1100L, from 2020 onward. For the CRF1000L, from 2016 to 2019, the manufacturer specifies part number BHG-062. The handlebar differs between the two generations, and the clamp does not fit in the same space.

What is the difference compared with the black version BHG-082-BK?

Only the finish: same structure, same compatibility, same hardware, same counterweights. This one is natural aluminum; the other is black powder-coated. The manufacturer keeps both in its catalog, so it’s purely an aesthetic choice.
