Everything you need to know before ordering

Compatibility, included items, installation, and documents: below is every detail verified against the official Barkbusters documentation.

Description Barkbusters BHG-117 handguard mounting kit for BMW F 800 GS from 2024

The BHG-117 is the specific mounting kit for the BMW F 800 GS from 2024 onward, in the three versions specified by the manufacturer: heat-treated aluminum bar, clamps, and hardware.

Declared compatibility

Model Years
BMW F 800 GS from 2024 onward
BMW F 800 GS Sport from 2024 onward
BMW F 800 GS Triple Black from 2024 onward

Compatibility is declared for motorcycles in original factory configuration. F 800 GS models from before 2024 have different codes depending on the year.

Attention: not for the F 900 GS

This is the most frequent mix-up between these two models. Despite their nearly identical names, the F 800 GS and F 900 GS have different handlebars: for the F 900 GS, the code is BHG-118.

Impact protection

Two mounting points and heat-treated aluminum. Barkbusters states that this configuration is designed for impact protection: this is the substantial difference compared with the original handguards, which are primarily designed to protect against wind.

The plastic guards are NOT included

Plastic guard Character
JET-003 Compact profile, more airflow to the hand
VPS-203 Adjustable wind deflector: adventure and touring
STM-003 The most extensive coverage in the range: road use and cold weather
BCF-003 Genuine carbon fiber

EGO plastic guards are not compatible.

What you will find in the package

  • Two heat-treated aluminum bars, natural finish.
  • Clamps and complete hardware.

What is NOT included

  • Plastic guards, to choose from JET, VPS, STORM, and CARBON.

Why choose it
  • Protezione dagli impatti dichiarata.
  • Quattro plastiche compatibili. JET, VPS, STORM e CARBON, intercambiabili negli anni sulla stessa struttura.
  • Prodotto in Australia.
Who is it recommended for

Assembly and documents

  2. Rimuovi i paramani originali e i contrappesi, secondo quanto indicato nel PDF.
  4. Fissa la barra in alluminio all estremità del manubrio e al morsetto, poi portala in posizione.

Note: it is not for the F 900 GS

  • Almost identical names, different handlebars. For the F 900 GS, the code is BHG-118.
F 800 GS or F 900 GS? Two different codes

F 800 GS or F 900 GS? Two different codes

This is the most common mix-up with this pair of models. Despite their nearly identical names, the F 800 GS and F 900 GS have different handlebars and require two separate kits: this BHG-117 for the 800, and BHG-118 for the 900. Check the owner's manual before ordering.

FAQs

For more information, see our FAQ of frequently asked questions.

Which F 800 GS versions is it compatible with?

All three declared by the manufacturer since 2024: F 800 GS, F 800 GS Sport, and F 800 GS Triple Black.

I have an F 900 GS: is this kit suitable?

No, and it is worth pausing for a moment on this: despite the nearly identical name, the F 800 GS and F 900 GS are two motorcycles with different handlebars. For the F 900 GS, the code is BHG-118. It is the most common swap for this pair of models.

I have an older F 800 GS: will it fit?

No. This code has been listed since 2024, that is, for the current generation. Earlier F 800 GS models have their own codes, which vary depending on the year: write to us with the motorcycle’s year and we’ll tell you the correct one.

Are the protective plastic parts included?

No. The BHG-117 is the mounting structure only: aluminum bars, clamps, and hardware. The plastic components are selected and purchased separately.

What plastics can I install on it?

Four series: JET with a compact profile, VPS with an adjustable deflector, STORM with extended coverage, and CARBON in fiber. EGO plastics are not compatible.

Are counterweights included?

The manufacturer does not state this in the official description of this code, and some retailers provide conflicting information. We prefer not to assume it: if you need confirmation, contact us before ordering and we will ask the supplier.

Does it protect the lever in a fall?

Yes. It has two mounting points, and the manufacturer states that the aluminum heat treatment is intended to add strength and impact protection. That is the difference compared with the original BMW hand guards, which are designed primarily for wind protection.

What finish does it have? Is it available in black?

Natural aluminum. The official code is BHG-117-NP, and for this kit the manufacturer does not offer a black-painted version, unlike other codes in the range.

Do I need to remove the original handguards?

Yes, the kit takes their place on the handlebar. The official instructions attached to the product page provide the complete sequence.

I installed an aftermarket handlebar: does it fit the same way?

The manufacturer declares compatibility with motorcycles in their original factory configuration. On an aftermarket handlebar, the diameter and geometry change, so the fitment must be checked on a case-by-case basis before purchase.

What will I find in the package?

The two aluminum bars, clamps, and mounting hardware. No protective plastic.

Do I need to recheck the tightening after installation?

Yes. Barkbusters asks you to check the tightness of all screws again after the first 50 km and recommends using a medium-strength threadlocker on all fasteners.
