Barkbusters BHG-106 handguard mounting kit for Beta RR Enduro, RR Racing, and Xtrainer from 2021

The BHG-106 is the Barkbusters mounting kit designed for Beta RR Enduro, RR Racing and Xtrainer models from 2021 onward. It is the structure onto which Barkbusters plastics are mounted: on its own, it protects levers and hands from impacts; with the plastics fitted, it also shields against branches, mud and cold.

Important to know before purchase: installation requires opening the grips if they are closed at the ends and shortening the plastic throttle tube end cap by no more than 3 mm. This is workshop-level work.

Protection and use

Barkbusters clearly distinguishes between its two mounting configurations, and the two-point configuration, anchored both at the end and at the centre of the handlebar, is the one the manufacturer specifies for impact protection. On Beta enduro bikes, this means protecting the brake and clutch levers from falls, logs and branches.

Materials and construction

Heat-treated aluminium bars (manufacturer code BAR-V-043), CS-04 split clamps with CP5 connectors, and BBE14A expanders with BBEC5M collars. The manufacturer does not state the finish or weight of the kit, so we do not list them.

Compatibility

Do you have a Beta RR X Pro? It is not listed for this code: from 2025, Barkbusters covers it with the BHG-157, which is currently not listed in the Endurrad catalogue.

Barkbusters states that compatibility applies to motorcycles in original factory configuration. Fitment on aftermarket handlebars must be checked before purchase.

Installation

Preparation. If the grips are closed at the ends, open them with a utility knife; on the right side, the hole must be clean and no smaller than the throttle tube's internal diameter. Move the throttle assembly approximately 20 mm outward, roll back the grip and use a hacksaw to cut the plastic throttle tube end cap: no more than 3 mm, without touching the handlebar. Remove any burrs before reassembly so the throttle moves freely. Barkbusters also publishes an installation video on its website.

Fitting. Install the clamp without tightening it, with the rings of the two halves aligned and facing toward the centre of the motorcycle. Secure the bar at the end and to the connector, horizontal when viewed from the side, and tighten in this order: M8x45 end screw, M8x25 bar screw, M6x25 screw securing the connector, M6x30 screw closing the clamp. The nut fits into its recess and does not need to be held with a wrench.

Specified torque settings: 10 Nm for the M6 screws, 28 Nm for the M8 screws and 21 Nm for the collar, using medium-strength threadlocker and checking again after the first 50 km. With heated grips, the instructions state that approximately 3 mm of washers may be needed to maintain clearance from the throttle grip.

• Protection plastics. The kit is the structure only: the plastics must be purchased separately from the options specified by the manufacturer.
• Handlebar weights: they are not included in the parts list.
• Washers that may be required with heated grips, threadlocker and tools.

• JET-003: compact profile, for enduro and off-road riding.
• VPS-003: deflector adjustable to two positions. It is being phased out, and the price list indicates VPS-203 as its replacement.
• STM-003, STORM series: more extensive coverage, for colder months.
• BCF-003, CARBON series: made from carbon fibre.
