Description Barkbusters EGO-202 full handguards for tapered handlebars

The EGO-202 is the complete handguard in the EGO series for tapered handlebars. Barkbusters calls it its toughest handguard ever, and it is the longest-running model in the range: in production for over twenty years.

Complete kit: heat-treated aluminum backbone, EGO plastics, and hardware.

Two mounting points, full wraparound protection

The aluminum bar wraps all the way around the hand, from the handlebar end to a clamp on the tapered section. This closed geometry is what absorbs impacts, and Barkbusters states that its two-point products are designed for impact protection.

The profile is compact, and the rounded shape helps it slide past branches and obstacles on tight single-track. The plastics have upper air vents for summer comfort.

Two stated exclusions

They are worth reading before ordering, because both come from the manufacturer.

  • Renthal Twin Wall and Barkbusters VSBar are not compatible. There is no adapter for the tapered version: for those handlebars, the option is the EGO-201 with the BSS-00 clamp kit.
  • Not ideal for motorcycles with long clutch and brake levers, because the compact profile may interfere. For tapered handlebars in that case, the correct choice is the JET-002.

Assembly and documents

Le istruzioni ufficiali INS-EGO-202 sono allegate a questa scheda.

  1. Verifica che il manubrio sia conico e non rientri fra le esclusioni dichiarate, Renthal Twin Wall e Barkbusters VSBar.
  2. Rimuovi i contrappesi originali. Se le manopole sono chiuse all estremità vanno aperte, perché il paramano si ancora dentro il manubrio.
  3. Verifica la lunghezza delle leve: su leve molto lunghe il profilo compatto della EGO può interferire.
  4. Assembla il morsetto sulla sezione conica del manubrio senza serrare.
  5. Fissa la struttura in alluminio all estremità del manubrio e al morsetto, poi portala in posizione e serra.
  6. Monta le plastiche EGO con la viteria fornita.
  7. Verifica il funzionamento di gas, freno anteriore, frizione e interruttore di arresto prima di partire, poi ricontrolla il serraggio dopo i primi 50 km.

Frenafiletti di media resistenza su tutti i fissaggi. Il produttore considera il montaggio dei paramani un intervento rilevante per la sicurezza, da affidare a un tecnico se non hai dimestichezza.

Renthal Twin Wall and Barkbusters VSBar are excluded by the manufacturer, and there is no solution for the tapered version: the EGO-201 with the BSS-00 set is required. The EGO is not ideal with long clutch and brake levers, where its compact profile may interfere: in that case, the JET-002 works better on tapered handlebars.

Is the kit complete, or do I need to buy anything else?

It is complete: aluminum frame, EGO plastics, and hardware. You don't need to buy anything else to install it. The wind deflectors, however, are a separate accessory, code B-092.

How can I tell if my handlebar is tapered?

A tapered handlebar widens toward the center: the clamping area on the plate is larger, while the ends where the grips go remain 22 mm. If the diameter is uniform along the entire length, the handlebar is straight, and the EGO-201 is required.

I have a Renthal Twin Wall or a Barkbusters VSBar: can it be installed?

No. The manufacturer explicitly excludes the Renthal Twin Wall and the Barkbusters VSBar, and there is no adapter for the tapered version. For those handlebars, the solution is the EGO-201 with the 28.5 mm clamp set, code BSS-00.

I have long levers: is that okay anyway?

The manufacturer explicitly warns that the EGO is not ideal for motorcycles with long clutch and brake levers: its profile is compact and may interfere. In that case, for a tapered handlebar, the correct choice is the JET-002, which Barkbusters specifically recommends for motorcycles with long levers.

Does it protect against falls or only from the wind?

It also protects in a fall. It has two mounting points, and Barkbusters states that this configuration is designed for impact protection. The aluminum bar wraps all the way around the hand and protects the lever.

What is the difference between EGO-202 and EGO-201?

Only the handlebar they are designed for: the EGO-202 is for tapered handlebars, while the EGO-201 is for straight 22 mm handlebars. The construction, plastics, and protection level are identical. There is also a difference in the exclusions: the tapered version cannot be mounted on Renthal Twin Wall and VSBar handlebars, while the straight version accepts them with the BSS-00 set.

I saw the code EGO-205: is it the same product?

Yes. The manufacturer renamed this code: the current one is EGO-202, while the previous one was EGO-205. If you come across references to the old code, it is the same handguard.

Are the wind deflectors included?

No. The deflectors for the EGO are code B-092 and are purchased separately: you can find them in the catalog among the Barkbusters components.

If I break one plastic piece, do I have to buy the whole thing again?

No. The plastics are replaced on their own: they are code EGO-203, available in the catalog in ten colors. The aluminum frame remains on the motorcycle.

Can I mount VPS, JET, or STORM plastics on the EGO frame?

No, and this is the exception across the entire range. The EGO frame only accepts EGO-203 plastics. VPS, JET, STORM, and CARBON fit all Barkbusters aluminum frames except the EGO.

Should I remove the bar ends or cut off the grips?

The original bar-end weights must be removed because the handguard attaches to the end of the handlebar. If the grips are closed at the ends, they must be opened. If you feel more vibration after installation, Barkbusters produces the B-066 bar-end weight, which is in the catalog.

What colors is it available in?

Ten: black, black-on-black, blue, green, gray, orange, red, white, yellow, and HiViz yellow. One more than the straight-handlebar version, which does not have orange.
