Description Barkbusters JET-002 full handguards for tapered handlebars

The JET-002 is the complete handguard from the JET series in the version for tapered handlebars. Complete kit: aluminum bars, JET plastics, clamps, and hardware. Fifteen items in the parts list, with nothing to buy separately.

What changes compared with the JET-001

Only the handlebar mounting system. The JET-001 uses bar clamps for straight 22 mm handlebars; the JET-002 uses multi-fit clamps with dedicated connectors for each side, designed for the 28 mm section of tapered handlebars. The bars, plastics, and protection level are identical between the two codes.

A tapered handlebar widens toward the center: the clamping area at the handlebar clamp is 28 mm, while the ends where the grips fit remain 22 mm. If the diameter is uniform along the entire length, the handlebar is straight.

It is a universal kit: unlike the BHG and BLG kits, you do not need a code for the make, model, and year. Barkbusters states compatibility for vehicles in their original factory configuration.

Two things to check before ordering

The grips must be open at the ends. The handguard is anchored inside the handlebar tube, so a through-hole is required: if your grips are closed, they must be opened with a utility knife. On the throttle side, the manufacturer instructs you to shorten the throttle tube end cap by no more than 3 mm, without damaging the handlebar, and to remove any burrs that could impede rotation.

The connector sides may need to be reversed. Normally, the left connector goes on the left, but the manufacturer notes that on Magura handlebars and some others, the two must be swapped. If the handguard does not align, try reversing them before forcing anything.

What you will find in the package

  • Two heat-treated aluminum bars, right and left.
  • Two impact-resistant JET plastics.
  • One set of left and one right multi-fit clamp, with their respective connectors.
  • Expander inserts, collars, and conical nuts for anchoring at the handlebar ends.
  • Complete hardware: 30 and 20 mm Allen screws, button-head screws, countersunk screws, self-tapping screws, and self-locking nuts.

What is NOT included

  • Bar-end weights: the original ones must be removed. If you are looking for a replacement, Barkbusters makes the B-066.

Installation

Specified torque values: 10 Nm for the M6 hardware and 28 Nm for the M8 hardware. The tightening sequence is precise and must be followed: you will find it in the official instructions included. Leave approximately 3 mm of clearance between the grip and handguard so the throttle can close freely, check the throttle, brake, clutch, and engine stop switch before riding, and check the tightening again after the first 50 km.

Non è la scelta giusta con un Renthal Twin Wall o un Barkbusters VSBar, che il produttore esclude, né con un manubrio dritto da 22 mm: in quel caso serve il JET-001.

Assembly and documents

Procedura dichiarata da Barkbusters nelle istruzioni ufficiali INS-JET-002, allegate a questa scheda.

  1. Verifica che le manopole siano aperte all'estremità. Se sono chiuse, aprile con un taglierino. Sul lato gas allenta il comando, arretralo di circa 20 mm e accorcia il tappo del tubo acceleratore di non oltre 3 mm, senza intaccare il manubrio; togli le bave prima di rimontare.
  2. Assembla il morsetto multi-fit sul manubrio senza serrare, allineando i riferimenti.
  3. Verifica il lato dei connettori: di regola il sinistro va a sinistra, ma su Magura e alcuni altri manubri vanno invertiti.
  4. Fissa la barra in alluminio all'estremità del manubrio e al connettore del morsetto.
  5. Porta la barra in posizione orizzontale vista di lato e serra nell'ordine indicato dal produttore: bullone a testa svasata, bullone a testa bombata, viti del morsetto, bullone da 30 mm.
  6. Monta le plastiche JET con le viti autofilettanti.
  7. Verifica il gioco di circa 3 mm fra manopola e paramano e il funzionamento di gas, freno anteriore, frizione e interruttore di arresto.
  8. Ricontrolla il serraggio dopo i primi 50 km.

Coppie: 10 Nm per la viteria M6, 28 Nm per la M8. Frenafiletti di media resistenza su tutti i fissaggi. Il produttore considera il montaggio dei paramani un intervento rilevante per la sicurezza, da affidare a un tecnico se non hai dimestichezza.

However, the manufacturer specifies two exclusions for which there is no workaround: Renthal Twin Wall and Barkbusters VSBar. These handlebars require the JET-001 with the BSS-00 clamp set.

The aluminum bar anchors at the end of the handlebar and to the clamp on the tapered section: two points, not one. This is the geometry that Barkbusters states is designed for impact protection, and the key difference from single-point handguards, intended only for protection from wind and weather.

The JET plastic measures 245 mm in length and 110 mm in height. For comparison, the VPS is 250 by 105, and the STORM is 275 by 140: the JET is the most compact of the three, which is why it takes up less space on the handlebar and leaves room for the long levers to operate.

Is the kit complete, or do I need to buy anything else?

It's complete. Aluminum bars, JET plastics, multi-fit clamps, and hardware: fifteen items on the bill of materials. Unlike the BHG and BLG kits, which are just the structure, you don't need to buy anything else here.

How can I tell if my handlebar is tapered?

A tapered handlebar widens toward the center: the clamping area on the plate is 28 mm, while the ends where the grips go remain 22 mm. If the diameter is uniform along the entire length, the handlebar is straight, and the JET-001 is required.

I have a Renthal Twin Wall or a Barkbusters VSBar: can it be installed?

No. The manufacturer explicitly excludes the Renthal Twin Wall and Barkbusters VSBar, and there is no adapter for the tapered handlebar. For those handlebars, the solution is the JET-001 with the 28.5 mm clamp set, code BSS-00.

What is the difference between JET-002 and JET-001?

Change the handlebar mounting system. The JET-001 uses clamps for straight 22 mm handlebars, while the JET-002 uses multi-fit clamps with right and left connectors for tapered handlebars. Bars, plastics, and protection level are identical.

Do I have to cut the grips?

Only if they are closed at the end. The handguard anchors inside the handlebar, so a through-hole is required: if the grip is closed, it must be opened with a utility knife. On the throttle side, the manufacturer specifies shortening the tube end cap by no more than 3 mm, without damaging the handlebar.

Does it protect against falls or only from the wind?

It also provides protection in a fall. It has two mounting points, and Barkbusters states that this configuration is designed for impact protection: the aluminum bar acts as a bridge between the handlebar end and the clamp, protecting the lever.

I have a Magura handlebar: does anything change during installation?

Yes, a detail that's easy to get wrong. As a rule, the left connector goes on the left, but the manufacturer notes that on Magura handlebars and some others, the connectors must be switched: the right one should be mounted on the left side. If the handguard doesn't align, try swapping them before forcing anything.

If I break one plastic piece, do I have to buy the whole thing again?

No. The plastic parts replace themselves: they are code JET-003, available in the catalog in eight colors. The aluminum frame remains on the motorcycle.

Can I install plastics from a different series?

Yes. The VPS plastic panels, with an adjustable deflector, and the STORM panels, with extended coverage, can also be mounted on the aluminum structure. The only exception is the EGO series, which has its own mounting system.

Is the specific code for my motorcycle required?

No. The JET-002 has a universal mounting system: what matters is that the handlebar is tapered and not among the stated exclusions. That is the difference compared with the BHG and BLG kits, where the code is instead tied to the make, model, and year.

What are the torque values, and in what order should they be tightened?

10 Nm for the M6 hardware and 28 Nm for the M8. The order matters: first the countersunk bolt at the end of the handlebar, then the button-head bolt, then the clamp screws, and finally the 30 mm bolt. It is specified in the attached official instructions.

Will I lose the original bar-end weights when installing the handguards?

The original bar-end weights must be removed because the handguard occupies the end of the handlebar. If you feel more vibration after installation, Barkbusters produces a dedicated bar-end weight, part number B-066, listed among the components.
