The BHG-013 is the specific mounting kit for the BMW G 650 X family: heat-treated aluminum bar, clamps, and hardware. It is the structure only, without plastics.

Assembly and documents

Le istruzioni ufficiali INS-BHG-013-NP sono allegate a questa scheda.

  1. Verifica che il manubrio sia quello originale.
  2. Rimuovi i paramani originali, se presenti, e i contrappesi.
  3. Monta il morsetto sulla sezione dritta del manubrio, senza serrare a fondo.
  4. Fissa la barra in alluminio all estremità del manubrio e al morsetto, poi portala in posizione.
  5. Monta le plastiche che hai scelto, allinea tutto e serra.
  6. Verifica il funzionamento di gas, freno anteriore, frizione e interruttore di arresto, e che lo sterzo giri liberamente da fondo a fondo. Ricontrolla il serraggio dopo i primi 50 km.

Frenafiletti di media resistenza su tutti i fissaggi. Il produttore considera il montaggio dei paramani un intervento rilevante per la sicurezza, da affidare a un tecnico se non hai dimestichezza.

Which versions of the G 650 X does it fit?

On all three: G 650 X Challenge, G 650 X Country, and G 650 X Moto. The manufacturer lists them under the same code because they share the same handlebar.

Even on the bike, which is a supermoto?

Yes, the manufacturer lists it together with the other two. The three X models share the chassis and handlebars: the wheels, suspension, and setup differ, not the handguard mounting point.

Are there year restrictions?

No, the manufacturer does not impose year limits on this family: the code applies to the entire production run, which took place between 2007 and 2010.

Are the protective plastic parts included?

No. The BHG-013 is the mounting structure only: aluminum bars, clamps, and hardware. The plastic components are selected and purchased separately.

What plastics can I install on it?

Four series: JET with a compact profile, VPS with an adjustable deflector, STORM with extended coverage, and CARBON made of fiber. On the X Challenge, JET is the most suitable choice for off-road use. EGO plastics are not compatible.

The motorcycle is no longer being produced: is it worth investing in?

It’s a legitimate question about a discontinued motorcycle. The practical answer: handguards protect the levers and controls, which on a discontinued motorcycle are precisely the most difficult and expensive parts to replace. And the structure doesn’t age with the motorcycle: if you change bikes someday, the plastics still retain their value, since they’re the same ones used across the entire range.

Does it protect the lever in a fall?

Yes. It has two attachment points, and the manufacturer states that heat treatment of the aluminum is intended to add strength and protection against impacts.

Do I need to remove the original counterweights?

The structure attaches to the end of the handlebar, so the original bar-end weights must be removed. The official instructions attached to the product page show the correct sequence.

What finish does it have?

Natural aluminum. The official code is BHG-013-NP, and the manufacturer does not offer a black-painted version of this kit.

I installed an aftermarket handlebar: does it fit the same way?

The manufacturer states compatibility with motorcycles in their original factory configuration. On the X Challenge in particular, the handlebar is a part that is often replaced: if you do not have the stock one, the mounting must be checked before purchase.

What will I find in the package?

The two aluminum bars, clamps, and mounting hardware. No protective plastic.

Can I change the plastics later?

Yes, and it’s the principle behind the entire Barkbusters range: the structure stays, while the plastics can be replaced. If you break one in a fall, you only replace that one.

I installed the JADO S6 on my BMW GS (non-"dedicated" version), and although I don't use the BMW base, the display and features are still top notch.
