Description Barkbusters STM-001-NP universal single-point mounting kit, 22 mm handlebar

The STM-001-NP is the single-point mounting structure only with clamp, for straight 22 mm handlebars: L-brackets, U-bolt clamps, and hardware. It is not a complete handguard.

Plastics are NOT included, and not all of them are suitable

For this kit, the manufacturer declares only two series compatible:

BCF-003 True carbon fiber, not recommended for off-road use

JET and VPS are not specified for clamp kits. This is a real difference compared with kits that anchor to the end of the handlebar, where the list is broader. It is worth knowing this beforehand, because it is an easy purchasing mistake.

Single-point: protects against the elements, not impacts

Barkbusters states that single-point products are designed solely for protection against the elements. If you are looking for lever protection in a fall, on the same 22 mm handlebar the correct choice is a two-point kit.

Measure 18 mm before ordering

The manufacturer requires 18 mm of straight, unobstructed handlebar inward from the controls: this is the space where the clamp goes. Measure with a ruler from the inner edge of the control block toward the center of the handlebar.

In return, the end of the handlebar remains free: original bar-end weights stay in place and grips remain intact.

Who is it recommended for

A chi ha già delle plastiche STORM o CARBON e gli serve solo la struttura per montarle su un manubrio dritto da 22 mm.

A chi vuole il paramano senza toccare contrappesi e manopole, e ha i 18 mm liberi che servono al morsetto.

Non è la scelta giusta per chi cerca protezione della leva in caduta, né per chi vuole montare plastiche JET o VPS: quelle richiedono un attacco diverso.

Assembly and documents

Le istruzioni ufficiali INS-STM-001 sono allegate a questa scheda e valgono sia per questo codice sia per la versione completa con plastiche.

  1. Verifica di avere almeno 18 mm di manubrio dritto e libero verso l interno rispetto al blocchetto comandi.
  2. Monta il morsetto con il suo cavallotto sulla sezione dritta, senza serrare.
  3. Fissa la staffa a L al morsetto, scegliendo fra le posizioni di montaggio previste quella che orienta meglio il paramano. Le staffe sono marcate destra e sinistra.
  4. Monta la plastica che hai scelto, STORM o CARBON, seguendo le istruzioni della serie corrispondente.
  5. Serra tutto a 10 Nm per la viteria M6.
  6. Controlla il funzionamento di gas, freno anteriore, frizione e interruttore di arresto prima di partire, poi ricontrolla il serraggio dopo i primi 50 km.

Frenafiletti di media resistenza su tutti i fissaggi. Il produttore considera il montaggio dei paramani un intervento rilevante per la sicurezza, da affidare a un tecnico se non hai dimestichezza.

For clamp kits, Barkbusters lists only two compatible series: the extended-coverage STORM and the carbon-fiber CARBON. Not the JET or VPS. The list is broader for kits that anchor at the end of the handlebar: if you need those, check the STM-005-NP or STM-007-NP.

The clamp needs 18 mm of straight, unobstructed handlebar inward from the control block. Measure it with a ruler; if that space isn't available, the kit cannot be installed: no adapter will solve it. This is the check that determines whether to buy it.

The mount works only on the straight section of the handlebar: the end is not touched. No grips to cut, no bar ends to remove, no expanders to insert into the tube.

Are the protective plastic parts included?

No. The STM-001-NP is the mounting structure only: brackets, clamps, and hardware. The plastic components are purchased separately, and the official PDF lists code STM-003 as the reference.

What plastics can I install on it?

Two series only, as declared by the manufacturer: the STORM series, with extended coverage, and the CARBON series, made of fiber. It is a shorter list than that of the two-point kits, and it must be respected.

Why can't I mount the JET or VPS on it?

Because the manufacturer does not declare them compatible with clamp-on single-point kits. For handlebar-end kits, such as the STM-005-NP and STM-007-NP, the list instead expands to JET and VPS. This is a real difference between the two types of attachment, not an oversight.

What is the 18 mm of clearance, and how do I measure it?

These are the millimeters of straight, unobstructed handlebar needed for the clamp, toward the inside from the controls. Measure them with a ruler from the inner edge of the control block toward the center of the handlebar: if you have less than 18 mm of free space, the clamp will not fit.

Does it protect the lever in a fall?

No. Barkbusters states that single-point products are designed solely for protection from the elements. Two-point kits are required to protect the lever in a fall, such as the BHG-001 for the same 22 mm handlebar.

What is the difference compared with the complete STM-001?

Only the plastic parts. The complete STM-001 also includes the black STORM plastic parts; this is the exact same structure without them. The official PDF confirms this and applies to both codes.

Is this one or the complete kit a better deal?

It depends. If you want the black STORM plastics, the complete kit costs less than the two pieces combined. This code is worthwhile if you already have compatible plastics, want them in carbon fiber, or only need the frame to replace yours.

Is the specific code for my motorcycle required?

No. It has a universal mounting system: what matters is the handlebar diameter, 22 mm straight, and the 18 mm of clearance toward the inside of the controls.

Should I remove the bar ends or cut off the grips?

No, and that’s the practical advantage of the clamp: the handlebar end remains free, so the original bar-end weights stay in place and the grips don’t need to be cut.

My handlebar is 25.4 mm: is that okay?

No, for the 25.4 mm handlebar, that is, one inch, you need the STM-002-NP. The clamps are sized according to the diameter and are not interchangeable.

What will I find in the package?

The two right and left L brackets, the two clamp and U-bolt sets for a 22 mm handlebar, the hardware and washers. No protective plastic.

Do I need to recheck the tightening after installation?

Yes. Barkbusters asks you to recheck the tightness of all screws after the first 50 km and recommends a medium-strength threadlocker on all fasteners. Specified torque: 10 Nm for M6 hardware.
