The complete lighting setup for the BMW R 1250 GS Adventure: a pair of D7 lights with 7,665 lumens each, model-specific mounts, and a CANsmart control unit for the vehicle, already matched together.

The D7 is a step up from the D4: its range changes the way you ride at night outside built-up areas.

With CANsmart, you control the auxiliary lights using the buttons already on your handlebars and adjust them with the Wonder Wheel, without adding switches or touching the original wiring.

Pair of D7 spotlights, 7,665 lumens each, mounting bracket designed for the R 1250 GS Adventure, and a dedicated CANsmart control unit. Note the model: Adventure versions have different mounting points from the GS.

The D7 lights feature DataDim technology and interchangeable clear, amber, and selective yellow lenses.

The control unit plugs into the 4-pin RDC connector behind the passenger seat. The auxiliary lights turn on by holding the turn-signal cancel button for three seconds and are adjusted with the Wonder Wheel from 0 to 100%, without adding switches.

Two of the four circuits remain available for later adding a SoundBomb horn or a B6 brake light.

Is it better than buying the pieces separately?

Yes, on the price, but above all on the risk. A lighting setup on a GS brings together three things that need to match: the auxiliary lights, the correct mounts for that model, and the right control unit for that year. Getting one of them wrong means sending the package back and starting over. They’re already matched in the kit.

What difference does having the CANsmart in the kit make?

You control the spotlights using the buttons already on your handlebar, without adding switches. On BMWs, adjustment is done via the Wonder Wheel, and the control unit connects to the diagnostic socket without altering the original wiring. That’s the difference between an accessory that’s installed and one that’s integrated.

Can I assemble it myself?

Yes, if you’re comfortable with basic mechanics: there’s no need to cut or splice wires; everything plugs into the original connectors. Allow yourself a relaxed afternoon the first time, especially to route the wiring neatly under the tank.

Premium upgrade on my BMW GS

I installed the JADO S6 on my BMW GS (non-"dedicated" version), and although I don't use the BMW base, the display and features are still top notch. The night visibility is impressive, and the "X-Ray" mode, as they call it, makes evening riding much safer.
