Headlight protection for KTM 1290 Super Adventure S and R from 2022

On the Super Adventure, the headlight is tall, wide, and completely exposed. All it takes is a stretch of dirt road behind another motorcycle for gravel to hit the headlight assembly's plastic directly. This LOBOO grille, product code CDDBHZ251, mounts in front of the headlight using the motorcycle's existing mounting points and takes the impacts instead.

What sets it apart

  • Hinged opening: the grille folds outward for cleaning or inspecting the headlight, without removing a screw.
  • 304 stainless steel with a sandblasted black powder-coated finish, made from 1.5 mm sheet metal.
  • No drilling: the motorcycle's original mounting points are used.
  • 370 g for 360 × 315 × 110 mm.
  • A 3 mm Allen key and threadlocker included in the package.

Compatible motorcycles

LOBOO lists this product code for the KTM 1290 Super Adventure S from 2022 and the KTM 1290 Super Adventure R from 2022. Previous-generation 1290 Adventure models and the 1050, 1090, and 1190 Adventure are not listed as compatible and are not included here.

Installation

Installation does not require drilling, but it is not immediate: the manual calls for removing the windscreen and the central decorative panel above the headlight to access the mounting points, fitting the bracket with the spacers and M5 screws, then reinstalling the panel and windscreen while tightening the original screws to 5 N·m. These operations are reversible. All kit screws, M5×16 and M5×30, must be tightened to 5 N·m, with threadlocker applied after all parts have been positioned.

È consigliata anche a chi tiene la moto molti anni: il gruppo ottico della Super Adventure è un componente costoso, e questa griglia costa una frazione di una sua sostituzione. Meno utile a chi fa solo autostrada e città.

The 1290's headlight is exposed, and it costs

On the Super Adventure, the headlight assembly sits in the middle of the fairing, high up with nothing in front of it. On dirt roads, it is the first thing to take the hit from gravel thrown up by the rider ahead. This grille fits between the headlight and the stones: it was made for that, not for aesthetics.

The grille is hinged on one side. To clean the headlight after a muddy day, flip it outward, wipe it down, and close it again: the mounting screws stay where they are. That’s the difference between protection you keep on all year and protection you eventually end up removing.

The manufacturer states that it is made of 304 stainless steel with a sandblasted black electrostatic coating and a thickness of 1.5 mm. Stainless steel performs well where gravel chips the paint: beneath the scratch, there is no iron to rust.

Will it fit my KTM 1290 Super Adventure?

It fits the 1290 Super Adventure S and the 1290 Super Adventure R from 2022 onward. These are the only two models that LOBOO specifies in the manual and parameter panel for this code: 1290 Adventures from before 2022 and the 1050, 1090, and 1190 Adventures are not declared compatible.

Do I need to drill or modify the motorcycle?

No drilling. However, the manual calls for removing the windscreen and the central decorative panel above the headlight, which are then reinstalled using the original screws tightened to 5 N·m: these operations are reversible, but the protection cannot be installed on an otherwise untouched motorcycle in just a few minutes.

Can I clean the headlight without removing the protective cover?

Yes. The grille is hinged and opens outward like a book, providing access to the headlight surface for cleaning or inspection before closing again, without removing the mounting screws.

What tools are needed to assemble it?

The 3 mm Allen key and threadlocker are included in the package. All screws in the kit, both the M5×16 and the M5×30, must be tightened to 5 N·m. The manual asks you to lay out all the parts without tightening them, apply the threadlocker, and only then tighten them to the specified torque.

What will I find inside the package?

Are the additional spotlights included?

No. In the manufacturer's photos, the motorcycle also has a pair of auxiliary lights beneath the headlight, but they are not part of this kit and are not included in the price. The protection covers only the original front headlight.
