The LOBOO L11 is not a generic auxiliary light: it is an ECE R149.00-approved projector, certified E57*149R00/06*1186, with both dipped and high beams approved.

That is the difference that matters: almost all aftermarket lights are sold with the “for off-road use only” clause.

Fifteen thousand lumens, with eight levels to manage them

The declared maximum output is 15,000 lumens for the pair. It is not a number to show off: it is why the lights need eight adjustment levels. In town, in a group, or behind a car, keep them on the lowest level without switching them off; full power is reserved for when the road is genuinely dark.

Controllable from the BMW Multi-Controller

With the LC081 CAN-Bus controller, sold separately, BMW riders can control the lights directly from the Multi-Controller wheel on the handlebar: no additional switch and no loose cable. It works just like the original controls.

Removable in seconds with the Q7 mount

The Q7 quick-release mount, also sold separately, lets you remove the lights without tools. It solves two different problems: in town, you can take them with you instead of leaving them in plain sight, and on technical off-road sections, you avoid exposing the lenses to branches.

Flashing synchronized with the horn

The dedicated cable is already included in the kit: by synchronizing the lights with the horn, every time you sound the horn, a high-intensity flash is triggered as well. A sound and visual signal together is much more noticeable than either one alone. Three independent flashing modes are also available.

Installation and Use

  • Connect via a relay with a dedicated fuse, never branching off an existing circuit.

The L11 is not just an auxiliary spotlight that switches on: it is a complete auxiliary lighting system, with genuine low and high beams, eight intensity levels, and a dedicated handlebar-mounted control. It is sold as a pair, with the wiring, control unit, and mounting ring already included in the box.

In the sections below, you will find the manufacturer's technical panels one by one: how the control works, the difference between the two beams, what happens when the electronics heat up, how it is controlled using the original BMW dial, and which tubes it mounts on. This is the information you need to make a real decision, not to be persuaded.

The LOBOO Q7 quick-release mount is optional and not included. It adds a mount that can be removed without tools, with a keyed lock and a waterproof connector that closes back onto the base without leaving exposed contacts.

It solves two different problems: in the city, you can take the lights with you instead of leaving them in plain sight, and on technical off-road sections, you avoid exposing the lenses to branches.

The package includes a dial with two buttons, which is mounted on the clutch control with the indicator lights facing the rider. When the key is turned, the headlight enters standby mode and the orange indicator light flashes slowly. Pressing button A once turns on the low beam; pressing it a second time switches to the high beam and the indicator light turns blue. With the light on, scroll the dial to move up and down through the eight levels; pressing and holding for two seconds returns it to standby.

Button B is the high-beam flash for overtaking. Pressing A and B together activates the hazard lights, with three different flashing patterns selected by pressing A; the red indicator light signals the active mode. When switched on again, the headlight resumes the last setting used instead of starting from zero each time.

The L11 lens produces a beam with a defined cutoff line: the light stops where it should instead of fading upward. That is why a road-legal headlight illuminates more of the road than a generic projector with the same lumen output, without dazzling oncoming drivers.

In low beam, the beam is wide and low, illuminating the edges of the road where animals and potholes appear. In high beam, the cutoff rises and the light reaches farther. The difference is most noticeable on unlit roads, which are precisely the roads for which auxiliary lights are purchased.

The manufacturer claims a total of 15,000 lumens at the highest settings, with the low and high beams switched on together, and compares it with a motorcycle's original headlight, at around 1,500 lumens, and a car's, at around 3,000. That is the kind of jump you notice on an unlit main road.

The figures must, however, be read by mode and level: on low beam alone, the L11 operates between 2,500 and 8,000 lumens, drawing 25 to 80 W; with the low and high beams together, it rises from 4,500 to 15,000 lumens, drawing between 45 and 150 W. The eight levels are specifically there so it does not have to run at full power all the time, which at night in the city would be counterproductive as well as inconsiderate.

The control cycles through low beam, high beam, and three warning flash modes. In low-beam mode, the optics lower the beam and maintain a sharp cutoff line so as not to disturb oncoming drivers; in high-beam mode, both beams work together and widen the illuminated cone far beyond the motorcycle’s original headlight.

The three warning modes are alternating right-left flashing, simultaneous flashing of both headlights, and rotating flashing. They help you be seen at a blind intersection, when stopped at the roadside, or behind a stationary queue after a bend. They do not replace the hazard lights, but in traffic, an alternating white flash is noticed much sooner.

By synchronizing the headlights with the horn, each time you honk, a high-intensity flash is also triggered. A combined audible and visual signal is much more noticeable than either one alone, especially from a car with the windows closed.

The housing is made of CNC-machined aluminum alloy, with cooling fins machined directly into the part. In an LED headlight, the real limitation is not power but heat: if the heat cannot escape, the driver reduces the current and the light output drops. Precisely machined aluminum conducts and dissipates heat better than a casting or an engineering polymer.

That is also why a headlight like this weighs and costs more than a generic one with the same stated luminous flux. In return, it withstands handlebar vibrations, summer sun, and washing, while maintaining over time the light output it promises on the first day.

The headlight body and driver have thermal control that automatically reduces power when the temperature rises—for example, in summer while stuck in traffic, when there is no airflow for cooling. This is a temporary loss of light that prevents permanent LED damage and extends the headlight’s life: as soon as you start moving again, everything returns to normal.

The electronics also include protection against reverse polarity—the most common installation error—and against overvoltage, which is not merely a theoretical possibility in a motorcycle’s electrical system. Together with IP68, these are the three features that distinguish a headlight designed for outdoor use from one that has merely been adapted.

There is a separate LOBOO CAN-BUS module that connects the L11 to the motorcycle's electronics and lets you control it using the original Multi-Controller wheel, without adding anything to the handlebar. It synchronizes the low beam, high beam, and passing flash with the standard controls, keeps brightness adjustment on the wheel, and maintains the three warning modes and independent control of the two headlights.

The manufacturer specifies two different wiring harnesses. The 4-pin version covers the R 1200 GS and GS Adventure, R 1200 R, RT, and RS, R 1250 GS and GS Adventure, R 1250 R, RT, and RS, and F 850 GS. The 8-pin version covers the F 750 GS, F 900 XR, and the entire K 1600 series. If your BMW is not listed, the headlight can still be installed: use the included retaining ring instead of the module.

IP68 is the highest rating on the scale: complete protection against dust and resistance to continuous immersion. In practice, this means that heavy rain, mud, and crossing a ford are no problem for the light housing, and that the motorcycle can be washed without any special precautions.

The weak point of any auxiliary light is not the housing but the connections: take care of the connectors, route the cable away from hot parts, and seal any unused holes. The manufacturer states that the product has passed repeated tests in bad weather while maintaining normal operation.

The rotating mount allows you to install the light at different angles: above or below the bar, facing forward or slightly outward. It is more useful than it may seem, because crash bars are never perfectly horizontal, and the position the frame allows is almost never the one in which the beam should be aimed.

A practical tip: aim the lights while stationary, with the motorcycle level and someone seated on it, checking where the beam cutoff falls about twenty meters away. If you do it by eye in the garage with the motorcycle on its stand, the result on the road will always be aimed too high.

The included clamps fit 22, 25, and 28 mm tubes, covering nearly all crash bars and small frames currently on the market. The 22 and 25 mm bushings are included in the box; on 28 mm bars, the clamp tightens directly without a bushing.

For 32 and 38 mm tubes, different clamps are required, which LOBOO sells separately and are not included. Before ordering, measure the exact point where the clamp would sit with a caliper: on many bars, the cross-section changes along their length.

The headlight body measures 86 mm in diameter and 63.5 mm in depth; with the bracket and clamp installed, the overall dimensions reach 127 mm in height by 85 mm in width, with an 18 mm mounting point. These are the figures that determine whether the headlight fits between the crash bar and the fairing without touching anything at full steering lock.

The manufacturer's table specifies a 12–15 V direct-current power supply for combustion-engine motorcycles, an aluminum-alloy body, IP68 protection, and a 6000 K color temperature, with 25–80 W and 2,500–8,000 lumens on low beam and 45–150 W with 4,500–15,000 lumens when both beams are switched on together. The dimensions were measured manually, so minor tolerances are normal.

Where do they end up on real motorcycles?

The manufacturer’s installation photos show the most common position on adventure bikes: on the crash bars, level with or slightly below the original headlight, one on each side. This position gives the beam the widest base and keeps the lights out of the path of flying stones.

The manual’s rules still apply: mount them on the frame or crash bars, never on the lower part of the fork legs or components that move with the wheel, because that’s where vibrations are transmitted in full. The LOBOO LC081 CAN-Bus controller connects the auxiliary lights to the motorcycle’s electronics. Three reasons why it changes everyday use:

  • No additional buttons on the handlebar: turn the auxiliary lights on and off and adjust them using the original Multi-Controller wheel, with your thumb and without letting go of the grip.
  • They follow the motorcycle’s lights: low beam, high beam, and passing flash remain synchronized with the factory controls, as if the auxiliary lights were original equipment.

Is it approved for road use?

Yes. The L11 has ECE type approval E57*149R00/06*1186 under UN Regulation R149.00, with both dipped-beam and main-beam functions approved. The full certificate can be downloaded from the product page.

You are responsible for verifying the installation requirements set out in the Highway Code for your vehicle.

What exactly does the type-approval certificate say?

The L11 is type-approved under number E57*149R00/06*1186*00, issued by the San Marino Republic Approval Authority on June 19, 2024, based on test report ATS-SM-IR-149-0167 dated June 5, 2024. The declared class is R149.00 Class B RHT, meaning right-hand traffic, and marking 149R-001186 is engraved on the headlight housing.

The type approval covers the L11 and its variants L11T, L11Pro, L11S, L11Q, and L11K. The file declares four non-replaceable LEDs per headlight, a clear glass lens, a black aluminum-alloy housing, and insulated copper wiring, with a rated power of 80 W on low beam and 150 W with the low and high beams switched on together.

Which motorcycles do they fit?

L'L11 is a universal light: what changes from bike to bike is the mount, not the light. It attaches to crash bars, handlebars, or dedicated brackets.

What is included in the package?

How is it controlled? Is a handlebar switch required?

The kit includes its own controller. On BMW motorcycles, with the optional CAN-BUS module, you can instead control everything using the original Multi-Controller wheel on the handlebar, without adding any switches.

What tools are needed, and to what torque should it be tightened?

The 3, 5, and 6 mm Allen keys are included in the package, along with threadlocker: nothing else is needed. The torque values specified in the manual are 5 N·m for the M4×10 screws, 10 N·m for the M6×16 screws, and 18 N·m for the M8×20 screws in the accessory kit.

The manufacturer recommends not fully tightening everything during the initial installation: first position everything and check the beam alignment, then apply the threadlocker and tighten, and check again after the first few kilometers.

Where does the wiring connect?

The wiring connects directly to the battery terminals, with a dedicated wire routed to an ACC-positive connection: this is what turns the headlights off when you remove the key instead of leaving them powered. There is also an optional horn wire, needed only if you want the flashing function from the original button.

The manual warns against modifying the original wiring: if it is not long enough, an extension should be added instead of cutting and reconnecting it. The ten included cable ties are specifically for securing it away from hot or moving parts.

Is it true that they flash their lights when they honk?

Yes, but only if you connect the wire dedicated to the original horn, which is an optional connection. Once connected, a 0.2-second tap of the horn starts the flashing; holding it for two seconds activates the hazard lights.

When you release it, the headlight automatically returns to the mode you were using before. If you do not connect that wire, the horn remains the horn, and the headlights can only be controlled using the dial.

Why are eight brightness levels needed?

Because 15,000 lumens is almost always too much. In the city, in a group, or behind a car, a light at full power is a problem for others: with the different levels, you can keep it on low instead of turning it off.

Full power remains available when the road is truly dark and there’s no one to dazzle.

How much power do they draw? Can the motorcycle’s electrical system handle them?

A pair of 15,000-lumen headlights adds a significant load to the electrical system. On motorcycles whose alternator is already strained by heated grips, a heated jacket, and USB accessories, the available margin quickly shrinks.

Always connect them through a relay with a dedicated fuse, never by tapping into an existing circuit.
