Description LOBOO CGTBH151BK cylinder head protectors for BMW R 1300 GS and Adventure

The LOBOO CGTBH151BK cylinder-head protector is not added to the motorcycle: it replaces the original lower protective plate on the BMW R 1300 GS. Remove the stock plate and install this one in its place, using the same mounting holes. The difference lies in the material: 4 mm of aluminum alloy compared with the 2 mm of the BMW plate—exactly twice as thick.

Why two extra millimeters make a difference

On the boxer engine, the cylinder heads are the motorcycle's most protruding parts: in a stationary or low-speed fall, they are the first point to touch the ground, even before the bodywork. With a flat plate, doubling the thickness does not merely double its resistance to bending—it increases it by much more, which is why this replacement part exists.

The plate alone, however, is not enough. If it were bolted on rigidly, it would transmit the impact directly to the cylinder head—the very component it is meant to protect.

How the dual damping system works

Rubber buffers are housed in the mounting holes, while a silicone shock-absorbing block works beneath the plate. The two elements have different jobs: the buffers isolate normal engine vibrations, while the block absorbs impact energy. This is what LOBOO calls a dual-damping design.

The blocks are made of nylon and silicone and can be replaced individually. They are the sacrificial part of the system: they work by deforming, and when they are worn, they can be replaced without touching the plate. On a component designed to take impacts, that is the difference between maintenance and replacement.

What to check before ordering

LOBOO states this explicitly: this product is intended solely to replace the original lower protective plate. If your motorcycle does not have one, or already has a replacement from another brand, installation is not предусмотрed. It takes thirty seconds to check with the motorcycle on its stand, and this is the most likely reason for a return with this item: if in doubt, send us a photo of the area beneath the cylinder heads.

The holes are based on the vehicle's original design data, so they match the stock mounting points: no drilling, enlarging, or modification is required. A single code covers both the GS and the GS Adventure because they use the same engine and the cylinder heads are in the same position.

Usage limitations

This is not an approved safety device and does not replace careful riding. Engine guards cover a different area—the motorcycle's perimeter—and remain a separate purchase: if you already have aftermarket guards installed, send us the model and we will check that the brackets do not interfere. Keep the original plate you remove: you may need it when reselling the motorcycle or for warranty work.

Data declared by LOBOO in the product's official documentation. Where the manufacturer does not provide a value, we identify it as not provided rather than estimating it.

Why choose it
  • Covers the critical point: on a boxer engine, the cylinder heads are the most prominent part and the first to make contact in a fall.
  • Avoids costly repairs: damage to cylinder heads is among the most expensive to fix.
  • Complements the engine guard: the bars cover the perimeter, this protection covers the direct point of contact.
  • Broad coverage: R 1300 GS from 2023 and R 1300 GS Adventure from 2024.
Who is it recommended for

You need it if with your R 1300 GS or GS Adventure:

  • You go off-road, where a fall from a standstill or at low speed is always possible
  • You park on soft ground and want to reduce the consequences of the bike leaning over
  • You already have engine guards and want to complete the protection at the direct contact point

If you already have an engine guard installed, please check for any interference with the brackets before purchasing: write us the model you have installed.

Documents and manufacturer

Assembly and notes

  • Check for any interference with engine guards or other protections already installed.
  • Re-tighten after the first 100-200 km and periodically with off-road use.
  • After an impact, check that the protection is not deformed and does not rest on the engine.
  • It is not an approved safety device and does not replace careful driving.

What does it look like in detail?

It isn’t added: it replaces the one you already have.

It isn’t added: it replaces the one you already have.

The R 1300 GS comes from the factory with a protective plate under each cylinder head. This one does not supplement them; it replaces them: remove the original and install the LOBOO in its place, using the same mounting holes.

That is the difference that matters when you compare prices. You are not buying an extra accessory to attach to the motorcycle; you are replacing a standard component with one built to withstand more.

Two millimeters versus four

Two millimeters versus four

The original BMW plate is two millimeters thick. This one measures four: exactly twice as thick, as stated by the manufacturer.

On a flat plate, doubling the thickness does not double the bending strength; it increases it by much more. That is why an additional two millimeters of aluminum changes the outcome of a side stand, and is not merely a technical specification detail.

Damping operates on two levels

Damping operates on two levels

The mounting holes have rubber pads, and there is a silicone shock-absorbing block beneath the plate. The two components work together: the first isolates normal vibrations, while the second absorbs the energy from an impact.

A rigid bolted plate transmits the blow directly to the cylinder head—the very part it is supposed to protect. Placing deformable material in between helps dissipate the energy before it reaches the engine.

After an impact, replace the pad, not the plate.

After an impact, replace the pad, not the plate.

The shock-absorbing blocks are made of nylon and silicone and can be replaced individually. They are the sacrificial part of the system: they do their job by deforming, and when they wear out, they are replaced.

Without this option, a crushed shock absorber would mean throwing away the entire protective system. It is the kind of design choice you appreciate after two years, not on the day of installation.

Holes derived from the vehicle’s original data

Holes derived from the vehicle’s original data

The manufacturer developed the plate based on the motorcycle’s construction data, so the hole locations match the original ones. No drilling, enlarging, or modification is needed.

For an accessory designed to be removed and reinstalled—after an impact or when reselling the motorcycle—this means the chassis returns exactly to its original condition.

Check first: the original plate is required

Check first: the original plate is required

LOBOO states it explicitly: this product is intended solely to replace the original lower skid plate. If your motorcycle does not have one, or already has an aftermarket replacement installed, it is not designed to be fitted.

This is the check to perform before ordering, and it takes thirty seconds with the motorcycle on its stand. If in doubt, send us a photo of the area beneath the cylinder heads.

A code only for GS and Adventure

A code only for GS and Adventure

The CGTBH151BK fits both the R 1300 GS from 2023 onward and the GS Adventure from 2024 onward: the engine is the same and the cylinder heads are in the same position, so you don’t need to check which version you have.

The package includes two mirror-image plates, one for the right side and one for the left: one for each cylinder head. There’s no need to order two.

FAQs

For more information, please see our FAQ.

Does it add to the original protection or replace it?

It replaces it. Remove the original lower cylinder-head protection plate and install this one in its place, using the same mounting points. It is not an accessory added to the standard one.

If I don’t have the original plate, can I still install it?

No. LOBOO specifies that the product is intended solely to replace the original lower protective plate: if the motorcycle does not have one, or already has a replacement from another brand, installation is not supported. Check this before ordering and, if you have any doubts, send us a photo of the area beneath the cylinder heads.

How much thicker is it than the original?

Twice as much. The original BMW plate measures 2 mm, while this one is 4 mm; both figures are stated by the manufacturer. On a flat plate, doubling the thickness increases resistance to bending by considerably more than twice as much.

Does the package contain one or two plates?

Two: right and left, mirror images of each other, one for each cylinder head. The boxer engine has two opposed cylinders, and both need to be protected, so there’s no need to order two packages.

What does the dual-damping system do?

They are two components that work together: rubber buffers housed in the mounting holes and a silicone shock-absorbing block. The former isolate ordinary vibrations, while the latter absorbs the energy of an impact before it reaches the cylinder head. A rigid bolted plate would transmit the blow directly to the part it is meant to protect.

Do shock absorber mounts wear out? Can they be replaced?

Yes to both. They are made of nylon and silicone and work by deforming, so it is normal for them to wear out: LOBOO designed them to be replaced individually, without changing the plate. After an impact, replace the shock absorber and the protection becomes effective again.

Do I need to drill or modify the motorcycle?

No. The manufacturer derived the hole locations from the vehicle’s original construction data, so they match the factory ones: no drilling, enlarging, or adapting is required. LOBOO provides an installation guide.

Can I keep it together with the engine guards?

They are two different things and cover different areas: the bars work around the perimeter, while this plate sits directly on the cylinder head in place of the original. In the manufacturer's images, the two solutions are shown installed together. If you already have an engine guard installed, write to us with the model and we'll check that it won't interfere with the brackets before you purchase.

What material is it made of, and what is its finish?

High-strength aluminum alloy with a black electrostatic spray coating. This is the same type of treatment used on motorcycle components exposed to the elements, and it is more resistant to abrasion and corrosion than traditional paint.

What should I check after a fall?

Check that the plate is not deformed and is not resting against the cylinder head; otherwise, it would transmit vibrations instead of isolating them. Also check the condition of the shock absorber block, which is the part intended to wear out first, and recheck the tightness of the fasteners.

Is it suitable for both the GS and the GS Adventure?

Yes, a single code covers both: the R 1300 GS from 2023 and the R 1300 GS Adventure from 2024. The engine is the same and the cylinder heads are in the same position, so there is no need to distinguish between versions when ordering.

How much does it weigh?

LOBOO does not provide the weight or dimensions for this item in any of its catalogs or technical specifications, so we do not publish an estimated value. Since it is a replacement for a plate already installed on the motorcycle, the difference from the original is nevertheless minimal.
