Description LOBOO CHG151 Upper Crash Bar for BMW R 1300 GS Adventure | 304 stainless steel, Ø 25 mm

The R 1300 GS Adventure has a fuel tank that takes up a lot of space and protrudes laterally: protecting it with a generic bar almost always means covering only part of it. The LOBOO CHG151 upper crash bar is designed for this profile, and the bars extend along both sides of the fuel tank, expanding the protected area.

The tube is made of 304 stainless steel, Ø 25 mm with a 2 mm wall, and is available in two finishes: sandblasted silver or black with an electrostatic coating. LOBOO states that it features carefully executed welds and a design developed from the motorcycle’s original data, with non-destructive installation: no drilling and no cutting.

Two details set it apart from an ordinary engine guard. First, the structure remains compatible with original BMW tank bags, which are usually the first thing affected when a high bar is installed. Second, the bars have pre-drilled holes for auxiliary lights, so no cable ties or universal brackets are needed to add lighting.

The mount uses multiple attachment points and is designed around the original structure to distribute the load instead of concentrating it on a single mounting point. That is what matters when the motorcycle goes down onto its side, not just the appearance of the tube.

This item is the upper bar only: the lower engine protection is a separate product. Auxiliary lights and wiring are not included and appear in the manufacturer’s images for demonstration purposes.

Why choose it
  • Faretti già previsti: fori predisposti sulle barre, senza fascette.
  • Inox 304, non acciaio verniciato: tubo Ø 25 × 2 mm, in nero elettrostatico o argento sabbiato.
Who is it recommended for

  • Vuoi aggiungere faretti ausiliari senza staffe improvvisate

How does it work, in detail?

Install a crash bar designed for the R 1300 GS Adventure

Install a crash bar designed for the R 1300 GS Adventure

The Adventure’s larger tank protrudes farther to the sides than the standard GS’s: a bar designed for another motorcycle covers it only partially. LOBOO developed the CHG151 using the original data for the R 1300 GS Adventure, and this is evident in the way the tube follows the tank’s contours.

For the standard R 1300 GS, the manufacturer provides a different part number: it is not the same bar with an adapter.

Protect your motorcycle without compromising its design

Protect your motorcycle without compromising its design

A poorly designed engine guard is noticed before the bike. Here, the profile follows the side of the tank, and the uprights follow the lines already present on the fairing: LOBOO describes an integration that enhances the GS's mechanical aesthetic instead of covering it.

That is why many choose silver for gray motorcycles and black for dark ones: the bar disappears into the design.

It also covers the sides of the tank, not just the center

It also covers the sides of the tank, not just the center

The bars extend along both sides of the tank: LOBOO states that this increases both the protected area and the usable space for mounting accessories. On an Adventure that tips over onto its side in a gravel parking area, the side of the tank is the first surface to make contact.

Keep the scope in mind, though: this is the upper crash bar; the lower engine protection is a separate item.

Distribute the weight across multiple points of the frame

Distribute the weight across multiple points of the frame

LOBOO states that it has designed a multipoint support structure based on the original geometry, intended to distribute the load evenly rather than concentrating it on a single mounting point.

On an engine guard, this matters more than the tube diameter: what breaks a subframe isn’t the impact itself, but the impact being transferred entirely to the same point.

Continue using the original BMW tank bags

Continue using the original BMW tank bags

It’s the trade-off you usually discover once the bar is installed: tank panniers no longer fit. LOBOO states that the CHG151 is compatible with original BMW tank bags, which remain in place inside the frame.

If you use them on trips, that’s why this bar is worth its price compared with a generic one.

Install the spotlights in the pre-drilled holes

Install the spotlights in the pre-drilled holes

The bars have pre-drilled mounting points for auxiliary spotlights: no zip ties to tighten around the tube, and no universal brackets that rotate at the first pothole and misalign the beam.

The spotlights are not included: LOBOO shows them for demonstration purposes, and they must be purchased separately, along with the wiring harness.

Install the engine guard without drilling into the GS

Install the engine guard without drilling into the GS

LOBOO declares a design based on the vehicle’s original data, with mounting holes aligned with the points already provided on the frame. No drilling, no cutting, no permanent modifications.

That’s the difference that matters when you sell the motorcycle: remove the engine guard and the GS returns to its stock configuration.

Check the welds: that’s where a poorly made engine guard fails.

Check the welds: that’s where a poorly made engine guard fails.

On a protective bar, the tube rarely bends on its own: what gives way is the weld bead between two sections. LOBOO shows the detail up close and presents carefully executed welds as part of the craftsmanship.

This is also where 304 stainless steel makes a difference compared with painted steel: beneath the paint, you cannot see the rust that starts precisely at the welds.

Choose between black and silver at the same price

Choose between black and silver at the same price

The two finishes are the same product: 304 stainless steel with a Ø 25 mm tube. Only the surface treatment differs: sandblasted and anodized for silver, and electrostatic painting for black.

In both versions, the reinforcing plates remain in a contrasting color, as shown in the manufacturer’s photos. The price is identical: choose based on your motorcycle.

The manufacturer's installation images show the bar on the motorcycle in both finishes, with and without panniers. They are useful for understanding how far it protrudes laterally and how it relates to the side-case subframe.

Panniers, auxiliary lights, and the luggage rack visible in the photos are not included.

In the close-up details, you can see the clamps on the tubes, the reinforcement plates on the side of the tank, and how the bar passes behind the light assembly without obstructing it.

If you're comparing two engine guards, these are the photos to look at: the difference between a purpose-built product and an adapted one can be seen here, not in the specifications.

Add inflatable bags to your crash bars

Add inflatable bags to your crash bars

The bars you’re about to install do more than just protect: they’re already the ready-made mounting points for LOBOO Wanderer inflatable bags. A pair of 6-liter bags, each waterproof to IPX7, with keyed anti-theft locks and a stated capacity of 300 kg per inflated bag.

They inflate when you set off and deflate when you return: carry what you need without installing frames or leaving permanent bulk along the side of the motorcycle. Make use of the Ø 25 mm tube you already have and go fully equipped.

FAQs

For more information, please see our FAQ.

Which motorcycle is the CHG151 compatible with?

With the BMW R 1300 GS Adventure from 2024 onward. LOBOO states that the design was developed using the motorcycle’s original data, so it is not an adapted universal bar.

Is it also suitable for the standard R 1300 GS?

No: the manufacturer specifies the Adventure version only. The R 1300 GS has a different tank and mounting points, and LOBOO produces a dedicated part number for it. If you have a standard GS, contact us and we’ll tell you which crash bar is right.

Can I continue using the original BMW tank bags?

Yes: LOBOO states that the CHG151 is compatible with original BMW tank bags, which can still be fitted with the engine guard installed. This is one of the points the manufacturer emphasizes, because with many high crash bars, the panniers no longer fit.

Does it also protect the engine?

No: the CHG151 is the upper bar and covers the top area and sides of the tank. The lower engine guard is a separate item. For complete coverage, you need both.

Do you need to drill or modify the motorcycle?

No. LOBOO specifies a non-destructive installation using the motorcycle’s existing mounting points, with no drilling or cutting. Removing the engine guard returns the motorcycle to its original configuration.

Can I install auxiliary spotlights on it?

Yes: the bars have factory-prepared holes specifically for the spotlights, so cable ties or universal brackets are not needed. The spotlights and wiring are not included and are shown in the images for demonstration purposes.

What is the difference between the black and silver finishes?

Aesthetic and surface treatment only: the silver is sandblasted steel, while the black is electrostatically painted. The tube is the same 304 stainless steel, and the price is identical.

What material is it made of?

304 stainless steel, with a Ø 25 mm tube and a 2 mm wall thickness. LOBOO also states that the welds are carefully finished—on a crash bar, that is where a poorly made product breaks first.

How much does it weigh?

LOBOO does not state the weight of the CHG151 in the available documentation. We prefer to say so rather than provide an estimate: if you need the figure for the motorcycle’s total load, write to us and we’ll weigh it in our warehouse.

What’s in the package?

The upper bars with the mounting brackets specified by the manufacturer. However, LOBOO does not publish a numbered list of the hardware: if you need confirmation before ordering, write to us and we will check a package in stock.

What are the tightening torques?

LOBOO does not publish a torque-specification manual for this code. On a powered paraglider, proper tightening matters: recheck it after your first few rides, especially if you use the motorcycle on dirt roads, and if you have any doubts, contact us before fully tightening it.

How well does it hold up in case of a fall?

The manufacturer does not publish load or impact tests for this product code, so we make no promises about its strength. What LOBOO states is the construction: 304 stainless steel, a Ø 25 mm tube with a 2 mm wall, and a multi-point mount designed to distribute the load across several attachment points. An engine guard reduces damage; it does not eliminate it.

Can I attach crash bar bags to it?

The tube is Ø 25 mm, so it falls within the 22–28 mm range of the LOBOO Wanderer crash bar bags. However, make sure there is enough clearance behind the bar: on the Adventure, that area is already occupied by the original tank bags, if you use them.
