Everything you need to know before ordering

Compatibility, included items, installation, and documents: below is every detail verified against the official Barkbusters documentation.

Description Barkbusters STORM STM-001 full handguards, single-point, 22 mm handlebar

The STM-001 is the complete handguard from the STORM series in the single-point clamp version, for straight 22 mm handlebars. Everything is included: black STORM plastics, brackets, clamps, and hardware.

Protects against the elements, not impacts

This is the most important thing to know, and Barkbusters states it without qualification: this product is designed solely for protection against the elements and NOT for impact protection. The handguard attaches to the handlebar at only one point and is not anchored at the end: the triangle that absorbs the impact is missing.

If what you are looking for is lever protection in a fall, the correct choice is a two-point model: the JET-001 for the same handlebar, or a kit specific to your motorcycle.

Measure 18 mm before ordering

The manufacturer requires 18 mm of straight, unobstructed handlebar inward from the controls: this is the space occupied by the clamp. Measure with a ruler from the inner edge of the control block toward the centre of the handlebar. If you have less than 18 mm of clear space, this handguard cannot be fitted, and no adapter will solve the problem.

On the other hand, the handlebar end remains free: the original bar-end weights stay in place and the grips do not need to be cut. This is the practical advantage of the clamp compared with systems that anchor inside the handlebar.

Stated compatibility

Requirement Value
Handlebar Straight 22 mm (7/8")
Clear space inward At least 18 mm
25.4 mm handlebar STM-002 required

It is a universal kit: you do not need a code for the make, model, and year. Barkbusters states compatibility for vehicles in their original factory configuration.

What you will find in the package

  • Two black STORM plastics, right and left.
  • Two L-shaped brackets, one right and one left.
  • Two clamp and U-bolt sets for 22 mm handlebars.
  • Complete hardware: button-head screws, mushroom-head screws, self-locking nuts, and washers.

What is NOT included

  • Nothing essential: the kit is complete. If you need replacement plastics someday, the code is STM-003.

Installation

Specified torque: 10 Nm for the M6 hardware. The manufacturer provides several bracket mounting positions, giving you room to orient the handguard. Check the operation of the throttle, front brake, clutch, and engine stop switch before setting off, and recheck the tightening after the first 50 km.

Why buy it from Endurrad

Free shipping in Italy above €100 and in Europe above €250, returns within 14 days, and support in Italian. If you are not sure you have 18 mm of clear space, send us a photo of the handlebar before ordering.

Why choose it
  • Kit completo. Plastiche, staffe, morsetti e viteria in una confezione.
  • Fissaggio universale.
Who is it recommended for

Assembly and documents

Before ordering, measure 18 mm

  • The clamp requires 18 mm of straight, unobstructed handlebar space inward from the controls. This is what determines whether it can be installed.
Single point: what does it mean?

Single point: what does it mean?

The L bracket starts from a clamp on the straight section of the handlebar and supports the plastic as a cantilever: a single anchor point, without the second point at the end. This is why Barkbusters specifies this product for weather protection only, not for impacts.

Here you can see the actual clearance on a naked bike: the STORM covers the hand well without obstructing the controls, and the end of the handlebar remains clear with the original bar-end weights in place.

The most extensive coverage in the range

The most extensive coverage in the range

275 mm long by 140 mm high: the STORM plastic is the largest in the Barkbusters range. For comparison, the VPS is 250 by 105 and the JET is 245 by 110. It is the road and cold-season handguard, where protection matters more than lightness.

Grips and bar-end weights stay where they are

Grips and bar-end weights stay where they are

The clamp mount works only on the straight section: the handlebar end is not touched. No grips to cut, no bar ends to remove, no expanders to insert into the tube. In return, 18 mm of free handlebar space toward the inside is required.

FAQs

For more information, see our FAQ of frequently asked questions.

Does it protect the lever in a fall?

No, and the manufacturer states it unequivocally: the STM-001 is designed solely for protection from the elements and NOT for impact protection. It attaches at just one point on the handlebar, without an anchor at the end. If you’re looking to protect the lever in a fall, choose two-point models such as the JET-001 or the motorcycle-specific BHG kits.

What is the 18 mm of clearance, and how do I measure it?

These are the millimeters of clear, straight handlebar space needed for the clamp, inward from the controls. Measure with a ruler from the inner edge of the control block toward the center of the handlebar: if you have less than 18 mm of clear space, the clamp will not fit. This is the check to perform before ordering.

Is the kit complete, or do I need to buy anything else?

It is complete. The package contains the black STORM plastics, the right and left L-brackets, the two clamp and U-bolt sets, and all the hardware: eleven items in the bill of materials.

Is the specific code for my motorcycle required?

No. The STM-001 has a universal mount: what matters is the handlebar diameter, 22 mm straight, and the 18 mm of clearance. You don't need the code linked to the make, model, and year as with the BHG and BLG kits.

Should I remove the bar ends or cut off the grips?

No, and that's the practical advantage of the single clamp mount: the handlebar end remains free, so the original bar-end weights stay in place and the grips don't need to be cut. Installation only affects the straight section.

What is the difference compared with the STM-001-NP version?

The NP version is the assembly kit only, without plastics: the official PDF explicitly states this and refers to code STM-003 to purchase them separately. This listing, however, is the complete set, including black STORM plastics.

Can I install plastics in a different color or from a different series?

Yes. The plastic guards can be replaced separately using code STM-003, in black or white. Other Barkbusters plastic guard series can also be mounted on the brackets; the only exception is the EGO, which has its own mounting system.

What is the difference between STM-001 and STM-002?

Only the handlebar diameter differs: the STM-001 is for straight 22 mm handlebars, while the STM-002 is for 25.4 mm handlebars, that is, one inch. Everything else is identical.

And compared with the bar-end versions, STM-005 and STM-007?

Change the anchor point. The STM-001 attaches with a clamp to the straight section of the handlebar and leaves the end free; the STM-005 and STM-007, on the other hand, anchor inside the end of the handlebar, on hollow and threaded handlebars respectively. All three remain single-point mounts, so they provide no impact protection.

Can I adjust the handguard's angle?

Partly: the manufacturer provides several mounting positions for the bracket, so there is room to orient the handguard in relation to the handlebar and controls.

What are the tightening torques?

10 Nm for M6 fasteners. Barkbusters recommends a medium-strength threadlocker on all fasteners and asks you to check the tightening again after the first 50 km.

Is it suitable for winter use on the motorway?

This is exactly its area of expertise. The STORM plastic one is the largest in the range, 275 by 140 mm, and the manufacturer says it is designed to provide excellent protection from wind and cold. What it does not do is protect you in a fall.
