If I break one plastic piece, do I have to buy the whole thing again?

No. The plastic parts replace themselves: they are code JET-003, available in the catalog in eight colors. The aluminum frame remains on the motorcycle.

Can I install plastics from a different series?

Yes. The VPS plastics, with an adjustable deflector, and the STORM plastics, with extended coverage, can also be mounted on the aluminum frame of the JET-001. The only exception is the EGO series, which has its own attachment.

What is the difference between JET-001 and JET-002?

They only differ in the handlebars they are designed for: the JET-001 is for 22 mm straight handlebars, while the JET-002 is for tapered handlebars. The structure, plastics, and protection are the same.

The handlebar has a cap welded onto the end: what should I do?

Some handlebars have a solid insert welded at the end. In that case, the manufacturer recommends drilling and tapping it to M8x1.25: this is workshop work, not a job for an improvised garage.

What are the tightening torques?

10 Nm for the M6 screws and 28 Nm for the M8. The tightening sequence for the clamp bolts is precise and is indicated in the attached official instructions. Check everything again after the first 50 km.

Will I lose the original bar-end weights when installing the handguards?

The original bar-end weights must be removed because the handguard occupies the end of the handlebar. If you feel more vibration after installation, Barkbusters produces a dedicated bar-end weight, part number B-066, listed among the components.

The JET-001 is the complete handguard from the JET series in the version for 22 mm straight handlebars. Complete kit means everything is included: the aluminum bars, JET plastics, and hardware. Fourteen items in the parts list, with nothing to buy separately.

Two mounting points

The heat-treated aluminum bar forms a bridge between two anchors: the handlebar end, where it fits with an expansion system, and a clamp on the straight section. This triangular geometry is what withstands impacts, and Barkbusters states that two-point products are designed for impact protection - unlike single-point models, intended only for wind and weather protection.

The manufacturer also notes that the JET profile is suitable for motorcycles with long levers, where a more enclosed handguard could interfere.

It is a universal kit: unlike the BHG and BLG kits, you do not need a code for the make, model, and year. Barkbusters states compatibility for vehicles in their original factory configuration.

Two things to check before ordering

The grips must be open at the ends. The handguard is anchored inside the handlebar tube, so a through-hole is required: if your grips are closed, they must be opened with a utility knife. On the throttle side, the manufacturer specifies shortening the throttle tube end cap by no more than 3 mm, without damaging the handlebar, and removing any burrs that could hinder rotation.

Some handlebars have a solid insert welded at the end. In that case, Barkbusters recommends drilling and tapping it to M8x1.25: this is a workshop job.

Installation

Specified torque values: 10 Nm for the M6 hardware and 28 Nm for the M8. The tightening sequence for the clamp bolts is precise and must be followed: you will find it in the official instructions attached to the product page. Leave approximately 3 mm of clearance between the grip and handguard so the throttle can close freely, check the throttle, brake, clutch, and engine stop switch before riding, and recheck the torque after the first 50 km.

How does it work, in detail?

The aluminum bar bridges the end of the handlebar and a clamp on the straight section: two points, not one.

The aluminum bar anchors at the end of the handlebar and to a clamp on the straight section: two points, not one. This is the geometry Barkbusters says is designed for impact protection, and the key difference from single-point handguards, which the manufacturer says are intended only for wind and weather.

Profile designed for long levers

The JET has the most compact profile in the range, and the manufacturer recommends it for motorcycles with long levers, where a more enclosed shell would interfere. It also lets more air through: it’s the handguard for dual-sport, enduro, and trail riding, not for winter highway riding.

Seven colors, replaceable plastics

Seven colors for the complete kit. And if you break a plastic part, you don't have to buy everything again: replace it with code JET-003. On the same structure, you can also switch to VPS plastics, with an adjustable deflector, or STORM plastics, with extended coverage.

Plastic measurements

The JET plastic measures 245 mm in length by 110 mm in height. For comparison, the VPS is 250 by 105, and the STORM is 275 by 140: the JET is the most compact of the three, which is why it takes up less space on the handlebar.

Fissa la barra in alluminio all'estremità del manubrio e allo snodo del morsetto.
Porta la barra in posizione orizzontale vista di lato e serra il bullone a testa svasata dell'estremità.
Serra i bulloni del morsetto nell'ordine indicato dal produttore: prima quello che unisce la barra allo snodo, poi quello che blocca lo snodo fra i cavallotti, infine quello che stringe il morsetto al manubrio.
Monta le plastiche JET con le viti autofilettanti.
Verifica il gioco di circa 3 mm fra manopola e paramano e il funzionamento di gas, freno anteriore, frizione e interruttore di arresto.
Ricontrolla il serraggio dopo i primi 50 km.

Coppie: 10 Nm per la viteria M6, 28 Nm per la M8. Frenafiletti di media resistenza su tutti i fissaggi. Il produttore considera il montaggio dei paramani un intervento rilevante per la sicurezza, da affidare a un tecnico se non hai dimestichezza.

A chi ha una dual sport, una enduro o una trail con manubrio dritto da 22 mm e parte da zero: qui c'è tutto, struttura compresa.

Is the kit complete, or do I need to buy anything else?

It is complete. Unlike the BHG and BLG kits, which consist only of the frame, the JET-001 includes the aluminum bars, JET plastic components, and all the hardware: fourteen items in the bill of materials. Nothing else needs to be purchased for assembly.

How can I tell if my handlebar is 22 mm?

The 22 mm, or 7/8 inch, size is the most common for the straight handlebars of dual-sport, enduro, and trail motorcycles. Measure it with calipers on the straight section where the clamp fits. If the handlebar widens toward the center, it is tapered, so you need the JET-002.

I have a Renthal Twin Wall or a VSBar: is that okay too?

One extra part is needed. For handlebars with a straight 28.5 mm section, such as the Renthal Twin Wall and the Barkbusters VSBar, the manufacturer specifies the 28.5 mm clamp set, code BSS-00, which is purchased separately and is listed in the catalog.

Do I have to cut the grips?

Only if they are closed at the end. The handguard attaches inside the handlebar, so the grip must have a through hole; if it is closed, open it with a utility knife. On the throttle side, the manufacturer recommends shortening the tube end cap by no more than 3 mm, taking care not to damage the handlebar.

Does it protect against falls or only from the wind?

Is the specific code for my motorcycle required?

No. The JET-001 has a universal fit: what matters is the diameter and type of handlebar, not the motorcycle’s make, model, and year. That is the difference compared with the BHG and BLG kits, where the code is instead tied to a specific motorcycle.
