Everything you need to know before ordering

Compatibility, included items, installation, and documents: below is every detail verified against the official Barkbusters documentation.

Description Barkbusters BHG-108 handguard mounting kit for Honda XL 750 Transalp from 2023

The BHG-108 is the Barkbusters mounting kit designed around the handlebar geometry of the Honda XL 750 Transalp from 2023 onward. It is the aluminum structure that supports the handguards: it protects your hands, levers, and controls from branches, gravel, and low-speed falls, and stays on the bike even when you change the plastics.

The manufacturer specifies it for the original 22 mm handlebar. And as with the entire range, the structure and protective plastics are two separate items: here you are buying the structure only, with hardware and handlebar weights.

Main features

  • Two-point mounting — anchoring at the handlebar end plus a clamp on the straight section. This is the configuration the manufacturer specifies for impact protection.
  • Heat-treated aluminum bar, with a wraparound design and natural aluminum finish.
  • Handlebar weights included — they do not need to be purchased separately.
  • Original 22 mm handlebar, as specified by the manufacturer.
  • Interchangeable plastics — compatible with JET, VPS, STORM, and CARBON, each sold separately.
  • Made in Australia by Rideworx Pty Ltd.

Protection and use

The Transalp is a bike bought for long-distance travel and off-road riding, and that is where your hands are most exposed: branches, gravel thrown up by the rider ahead, and the stationary fall that happens to everyone when a foot slips. The standard handguards are plastic and have no internal structure: they protect against the wind, but in a fall they bend together with the lever. Two-point mounting does a different job: the aluminum bar forms a cage around your hand and transfers the impact to the structure. The single-point configuration, the other option in the range, is specified by the manufacturer only for protection from wind and weather.

Materials and construction

Heat-treated aluminum structure, a process the manufacturer uses to increase strength and impact absorption. The design wraps around the hand: it starts at the straight section of the handlebar, curves around the hand, and closes at the end. The clamp is shaped to fit between the Transalp's cables and lines.

Compatibility

Brand Model Handlebar Years Code
Honda XL 750 Transalp original 22 mm from 2023 onward BHG-108-NP

Compatibility specified by Barkbusters for motorcycles in original factory configuration. Aftermarket handlebars have different diameters and wall thicknesses: check the fit before purchasing. Not sure about your model? Contact us with the model and year.

Installation

Installs on the original handlebar, with no drilling or modifications to the bike. The standard plastic handguards must be removed, along with the original handlebar weights: the structure anchors at the handlebar end, and the supplied weights are used in their place.

Before fully tightening, check that the throttle, front brake, clutch, and engine stop switch operate freely and that the steering turns from lock to lock without interference. Check the tightness again after the first 50 km. The complete procedure and warnings are provided in the official INS-BHG-108-NP instructions, attached to this product page in the Manufacturer documents section.

What's in the box

  • Two heat-treated aluminum bars
  • Clamps for the straight section of the handlebar
  • Complete mounting hardware
  • Handlebar weights

What is NOT included

  • Protective plastics. They must be selected and ordered separately from the JET, VPS, STORM, and CARBON series. EGO plastics are not compatible with this structure.
  • LED lights and other accessories in the range, which remain separate items.

Why choose Barkbusters

Barkbusters is a Rideworx Pty Ltd brand, an Australian company that has designed and manufactured motorcycle handguards since 1984. The range is built around a precise idea: the structure is specific to the motorcycle, while the plastics are universal within the system. The photos on this page show it clearly — it is always the same kit on the same Transalp, with three different protection series.

Why buy it from Endurrad

Endurrad stocks accessories for touring, adventure, and enduro motorcycles: compatibility checked against the manufacturer's documentation, official instructions attached to the product page, and assistance before purchase if your model is unclear. Free shipping in Italy over €100 and in Europe over €250, returns within 14 days, 1-year warranty. See the full Barkbusters range.

Why choose it
  • Protezione dagli impatti dichiarata.
  • Prodotto in Australia.
Who is it recommended for

Assembly and documents

  4. Fissa la barra in alluminio all estremità del manubrio e al morsetto, poi portala in posizione.

One structure, three different protections

  • The official photos show the same kit on the Transalp with JET, STORM, and VPS.
Structure only, including counterweights

Structure only, including counterweights

What you see is the complete kit: two heat-treated aluminum bars, the clamps, the hardware, and the handlebar weights. The protective plastics are a separate item, to be chosen from JET, VPS, STORM, and CARBON.

With JET plastics: compact profile

With JET plastics: compact profile

In the official photo, the kit is mounted on the Transalp with JET plastics, sold separately. Compact profile, suitable for enduro and mixed use: it covers less than the other series but stays as close as possible to the bike's lines.

With STORM plastics: extended coverage

With STORM plastics: extended coverage

The same structure with STORM plastics. It is the series with the widest coverage in the range, designed for the road and winter riding: those who also use the Transalp for commuting in winter usually start here.

With VPS plastics: adjustable deflector

With VPS plastics: adjustable deflector

And the third option: the VPS, with a deflector adjustable to two positions. That’s the idea behind the Barkbusters system, as shown in these three photos: the structure is always the same; you choose the protection and change it when the way you use the bike changes.

FAQs

For more information, see our FAQ of frequently asked questions.

Are the protective plastic parts included?

No. Here you purchase only the aluminum frame with the hardware and counterweights. The JET, VPS, STORM, or CARBON plastics are ordered separately, remain interchangeable on the same frame, and can be changed to a different color even years later. The gallery photos show the same kit with three different sets.

My model is listed in the table, but the year isn’t: can I still install it?

No. The years in the table are those stated by the manufacturer and are not extended by deduction: the same motorcycle changes kit when the handlebar changes. Write to us with the model and year, and we’ll verify the correct part number before you order.

Are the handlebar counterweights included?

Yes, the manufacturer states that they are included with this code. The motorcycle's standard bar-end weights must be removed because the structure attaches precisely to the end of the handlebar, and the supplied ones are installed in their place.

What does it mean that it fits a 22 mm handlebar?

It is the diameter of the original handlebar of the XL 750 Transalp, and the manufacturer specifies it precisely in this compatibility statement. If you replaced the handlebar with one of a different diameter, for example a tapered one, this kit is no longer the right one: write to us and we will evaluate a universal kit selected based on the diameter.

What protective plastics can I mount on this structure?

Four series declared by the manufacturer: JET with a compact profile, VPS with an adjustable deflector, STORM with extended coverage, and CARBON made of carbon fiber. EGO models are not compatible because they use a dedicated structure.

The Transalp already comes with handguards as standard: are they really necessary?

The original handguards are made of plastic and have no internal structure: they protect against wind and thin branches, but in a fall they bend together with the lever. This kit adds the aluminum bar anchored at two points, which is the part that absorbs the impact. The original plastics must be removed and replaced with one of the Barkbusters series.

Does the handlebar need to be modified? What if it’s aftermarket?

No modification is required for the original handlebar: it installs using the supplied hardware. Barkbusters states compatibility only for motorcycles in their original factory configuration: with an aftermarket handlebar, the diameter and thicknesses may differ, so the mounting must be verified before purchase.

Does it interfere with heated grips?

The manufacturer does not state that this product code is incompatible with heated grips, but it also does not explicitly confirm compatibility. If you have the original heated grips or an aftermarket kit, write to us before ordering and we will check together, rather than assuming it.

What is the difference between two attachment points and a single point?

These are two configurations that the manufacturer distinguishes and does not combine. The two attachment points, as in this kit, secure the bar both at the end of the handlebar and to the straight section, and are intended for impact protection. The single attachment point is intended only for protection from wind and the elements.

What exactly is included in the package?

The two heat-treated aluminum bars, clamps, complete hardware, and handlebar counterweights. There are no protective plastic parts: they are the item to pair with.

Why is a specific kit needed instead of a universal one?

Because the clamp needs to fit between the Transalp’s cables, hoses, and electrical switch blocks without interfering with levers and controls. A universal kit is chosen based on the handlebar diameter and remains the right solution when the handlebar is no longer the original one.

Are assembly instructions available?

Yes. The official Barkbusters INS-BHG-108-NP instructions are attached to this listing in the Manufacturer Documents section, with the assembly sequence and warnings.
