Description Barkbusters BHG-091 handguard mounting kit for Honda CRF300L from 2021

The BHG-091 is the Barkbusters mounting kit designed around the handlebar geometry of the Honda CRF300L from 2021 onward. It is the aluminum structure that supports the handguards: it protects your hands, levers, and controls from branches, gravel, and falls, and stays on the bike even when you change the plastics.

CRF300L only, not CRF300 Rally. The two bikes share the engine and chassis, but not the handlebar or the space around the controls: for the Rally, the manufacturer specifies a different code, BHG-093. It is the most common mistake with this bike, so it is worth checking before ordering.

As with the entire range, the structure and protective plastics are two separate products: here you are purchasing the structure only, with the hardware.

Key features

  • Two-point mounting — anchoring at the handlebar end plus a clamp on the straight section. This is the configuration the manufacturer specifies for impact protection.
  • Heat-treated aluminum bar, with a wraparound design and natural aluminum finish.
  • Specific to the CRF300L, with the Rally excluded from the manufacturer's declaration.
  • Interchangeable plastics — compatible with JET, VPS, STORM, and CARBON, each sold separately.
  • Made in Australia by Rideworx Pty Ltd.

Protection and use

The CRF300L is a lightweight road-legal enduro, and people who buy it use it: gravel roads, trails, and the falls that are part of off-road riding. The stock handguards are plastic and have no internal structure: they protect against wind and thin branches, but in a fall they bend together with the lever. The two-point mounting does a different job: the aluminum bar forms a cage around the hand and transfers the impact to the structure. On a bike used where the road ends, it is the difference between getting back up and continuing and getting back up and going home. The single-point configuration, the other setup in the range, is specified by the manufacturer only for protection from wind and weather.

Materials and construction

Heat-treated aluminum structure, a process the manufacturer uses to increase strength and impact-absorption capacity. The design is wraparound: it starts at the straight section of the handlebar, curves around the hand, and closes at the end. The clamp is shaped to fit between the cables and lines of the CRF300L.

Installation

Installs on the original handlebar, with no drilling or modifications to the motorcycle. The stock plastic handguards must be removed, and the handlebar end must be cleared as described in the official instructions.

Before fully tightening, check that the throttle, front brake, clutch, and engine-stop switch operate freely and that the steering turns from lock to lock without interference. Recheck the tightening after the first 50 km, and after every fall. The complete sequence and warnings are in the official instructions INS-BHG-091-NP, attached to this listing in the Manufacturer documents section.

What you will find in the package

  • Two heat-treated aluminum bars
  • Clamps for the straight section of the handlebar
  • Complete mounting hardware

What is NOT included

  • Protective plastics. They must be selected and ordered separately from the JET, VPS, STORM, and CARBON ranges. EGO plastics are not compatible with this structure.
  • Handlebar bar-end weights. For this code, the manufacturer does not list them among the kit contents, unlike other codes in the range.

Why choose Barkbusters

Barkbusters is a Rideworx Pty Ltd brand, an Australian company that has designed and manufactured motorcycle handguards since 1984. The range is built around a clear idea: the structure is specific to the motorcycle, while the plastics are universal within the system. Buy the correct structure once, then choose the protection you need, replace it if it is damaged in a fall or if your type of riding changes, without replacing everything.

Why buy it from Endurrad

Endurrad stocks accessories for touring, adventure, and enduro motorcycles: compatibility checked against the manufacturer's documentation, official instructions attached to the listing, and assistance before purchase if your model is unclear. Free shipping in Italy above €100 and in Europe above €250, 14-day returns, 1-year warranty. See the entire Barkbusters range.

Why choose it
  • Protezione dagli impatti dichiarata.
  • Quattro plastiche compatibili. JET, VPS, STORM e CARBON, intercambiabili negli anni sulla stessa struttura.
  • Prodotto in Australia.
Who is it recommended for

Assembly and documents

  4. Fissa la barra in alluminio all estremità del manubrio e al morsetto, poi portala in posizione.

CRF300L and CRF300 Rally are not the same motorcycle

  • Change the handlebar, change the code: the Rally requires the BHG-093.

Only the frame, designed for the CRF300L

What you see is the complete kit: two heat-treated aluminum bars, the clamps, and the hardware. The protective plastics are a separate item, to be chosen from JET, VPS, STORM, and CARBON.

The second point: the clamp on the handlebar

The second point: the clamp on the handlebar

The clamp closes around the straight section of the handlebar, in front of the controls. It is the part that turns the handguard into a cage around your hand: without it, the bar would act as a cantilever supported only at the end. On a dual-sport bike like the CRF300L, it is the difference between a cosmetic handguard and real protection.

The first point: the end of the handlebar

The first point: the end of the handlebar

The bar anchors inside the end of the handlebar, where the stock bar-end weight is located. For this product code, the manufacturer does not list replacement bar-end weights in the kit: read the official instructions attached to the listing to understand how to free up the end on your motorcycle.

On the CRF300L, with the JET plastics

In the official photo, the kit is fitted with JET plastics, sold separately: a compact profile, the most common choice for enduro and mixed use. VPS, STORM, or CARBON can also be mounted on the same structure, and they can be changed over the years without touching the aluminum.

FAQs

For more information, see our FAQ of frequently asked questions.

Are the protective plastic parts included?

No. Here you purchase only the aluminum frame with the hardware. The JET, VPS, STORM, or CARBON plastic parts are ordered separately, remain interchangeable on the same frame, and can be changed to a different color even years later.

I have a CRF300 Rally: is this kit suitable?

No, and it is the most common mistake with this motorcycle. The CRF300 Rally has a dedicated code, BHG-093. The two motorcycles share the same engine and chassis, but not the parts that matter here: the handlebar and the space around the controls, where the Rally also has fairing.

My model is listed in the table, but the year isn’t: can I still install it?

No. The manufacturer lists the CRF300L from 2021 onward, with no upper limit. Compatibility with the CRF250L, which is the previous generation, is not stated: send us the model and year, and we’ll verify it before you order.

Are the handlebar counterweights included?

For this code, the manufacturer does not list them among the kit contents, unlike other codes in the range where they are explicitly mentioned. Therefore, we should not assume that they are included: the official instructions attached to the product sheet explain how the handlebar end should be prepared.

What protective plastics can I mount on this structure?

Four series declared by the manufacturer: JET with a compact profile, VPS with an adjustable deflector, STORM with extended coverage, and CARBON made of carbon fiber. On the CRF300L, the most common choice is the JET, which takes up less space off-road. EGO models are not compatible.

Does the CRF300L already come with handguards as standard: are they really necessary?

The original handguards are made of plastic and have no internal structure: they protect against wind and thin branches, but in a fall they bend along with the lever. This kit adds the aluminum bar anchored at two points, which is the part that absorbs the impact. On a motorcycle used off-road, it is the difference between getting back up and continuing, and getting back up and going home.

Does the handlebar need to be modified? What if it’s aftermarket?

No modification is needed for the original handlebar: it installs with the supplied hardware. Barkbusters declares compatibility only for motorcycles in their original factory configuration: the handlebar on the CRF300L is often replaced, and in that case the mounting must be checked before purchase, or a universal kit based on diameter should be chosen.

Why not a universal kit, which costs less?

Because the clamp must fit between the CRF300L's cables, hoses, and electrical switchgear without interfering with the levers and controls, and because the bar length is calculated for that handlebar. A universal kit remains the right choice when the handlebar is no longer the original one.

What is the difference between two attachment points and a single point?

These are two configurations that the manufacturer distinguishes and does not combine. The two mounting points, as in this kit, anchor the bar both at the handlebar end and to the straight section, and are intended for impact protection. The single mounting point is intended only for protection from wind and weather, and is not sufficient on an enduro bike.

What exactly is included in the package?

The two heat-treated aluminum bars, clamps, and complete mounting hardware. Protective plastics are not included: they are the item to pair with it.

Can I install it myself, or does it need to be done by a workshop?

The manufacturer describes the installation as simple and provides the complete instructions attached to this listing. However, keep in mind that installing handguards is a safety-critical task: if you are not familiar with torque wrenches and threadlocker, it is better to have it done by a technician.

Are assembly instructions available?

Yes. The official Barkbusters INS-BHG-091-NP instructions are attached to this product page, in the Manufacturer Documents section, with assembly sequence and warnings.
