Description Barkbusters BHG-019 handguard mounting kit for BMW R 1100 GS, R 1150 GS/GSA and Yamaha XTZ 660 Ténéré

The BHG-019 is the Barkbusters mounting kit designed for the handlebar geometry of the BMW R 1100 GS, R 1150 GS, R 1150 GS Adventure and Yamaha XTZ 660 Ténéré from 2008 onward. It is the aluminium structure that supports the handguards: it protects your hands, levers and controls from branches, gravel and low-speed falls, and stays on the bike even when you change the plastics.

One important point, because it is the most common reason for returns: the structure and the protective plastics are two separate products. Here you are purchasing the structure only, with the hardware and handlebar weights.

Main features

  • Two-point mounting — the bar is anchored at the end of the handlebar and to a clamp on the straight section. This is the configuration the manufacturer specifies for impact protection.
  • Heat-treated aluminium bar — wraparound design, natural aluminium finish.
  • Handlebar weights included — there is no need to reuse the original ones or buy them separately.
  • Four motorcycles under one code — three BMW models with no year restrictions and the Ténéré from 2008 onward.
  • Interchangeable plastics — compatible with the JET, VPS, STORM and CARBON ranges, each sold separately.
  • Made in Australia by Rideworx Pty Ltd.

Protection and use

The two-point mounting is the configuration Barkbusters intended for more demanding use: the bar transfers the impact to the structure instead of the lever. On an R 1150 GS or a Ténéré used for touring and on dirt roads, it can mean the difference between a scratch and a lever bent in half halfway through the day, far from home. The manufacturer clearly distinguishes between the two configurations in the range: the single-point version, mounted only at the end of the handlebar, is intended for protection from wind and weather, not impacts.

Materials and construction

The structure is made of heat-treated aluminium, a process the manufacturer uses to increase strength and impact absorption. The design is wraparound: it starts at the straight section of the handlebar, curves around the hand and closes at the end. The finish is natural aluminium.

Compatibility declared by Barkbusters for motorcycles in original factory configuration. Aftermarket handlebars have different diameters and thicknesses: the fit must be checked before purchase. Unsure about your model? Contact us with the model and year.

Installation

Installation on the original handlebar, with no drilling or modifications to the motorcycle. The original handlebar weights must be removed because the structure mounts directly to the end of the handlebar, and the supplied weights are installed in their place.

Before fully tightening, check that the throttle, front brake, clutch and engine stop switch operate freely and that the steering turns from lock to lock without interference. Recheck the tightening after the first 50 km. The complete procedure and warnings are provided in the official INS-BHG-019-NP instructions, attached to this product page in the Manufacturer documents section.

What is included

  • Two heat-treated aluminium bars
  • Clamps for the straight section of the handlebar
  • Complete mounting hardware
  • Handlebar weights

What is NOT included

  • Protective plastics. These must be selected and ordered separately from the JET, VPS, STORM and CARBON ranges. EGO plastics are not compatible with this structure.
  • LED lights and other accessories in the range, which remain separate products.

Why choose Barkbusters

Barkbusters is a brand of Rideworx Pty Ltd, an Australian company that has been designing and manufacturing motorcycle handguards since 1984. The range is built around a precise concept: the structure is motorcycle-specific, while the plastics are universal within the system. You buy the right structure once, then choose the protection you need, replace it if it gets damaged or if your type of use changes, without having to replace everything.

Why buy it from Endurrad

Endurrad specialises in accessories for touring, adventure and enduro motorcycles: compatibility checked against the manufacturer's documentation, official instructions attached to the product page and pre-purchase assistance if your model is unclear. Free shipping in Italy on orders over €100 and in Europe on orders over €250, returns within 14 days, 1-year warranty. View the complete Barkbusters range.

Why choose it
  • Protezione dagli impatti dichiarata.
  • Quattro plastiche compatibili. JET, VPS, STORM e CARBON, intercambiabili negli anni sulla stessa struttura.
  • Prodotto in Australia.
Who is it recommended for

Assembly and documents

  4. Fissa la barra in alluminio all estremità del manubrio e al morsetto, poi portala in posizione.

Counterweights included, plastics not included

  • The kit includes its own handlebar weights: the stock ones are removed and are no longer needed.
Two attachment points, counterweights included

Two attachment points, counterweights included

What you see is the complete kit: two heat-treated aluminum bars, the clamps, the hardware, and the handlebar weights. The bar is anchored at two points, at the end of the handlebar and on the straight section: this is the configuration Barkbusters recommends for impact protection. The included weights are a tangible difference compared with most bike-specific kits, where the stock ones must be reused or purchased separately.

You can choose the plastics later too

You can choose the plastics later too

In the official photo, the kit is mounted on a Yamaha XTZ 660 Ténéré with VPS plastics, sold separately. This is how the entire range works: the structure stays on the motorcycle, while the plastics can be chosen from JET, VPS, STORM, and CARBON, replaced over the years, and changed in color without touching the aluminum.

FAQs

For more information, see our FAQ of frequently asked questions.

Are the protective plastic parts included?

No. Barkbusters sells the mounting frame and plastic guards separately: here you get only the aluminum frame with its hardware and bar-end weights. The JET, VPS, STORM, or CARBON plastic guards are ordered separately and remain interchangeable on the same frame, including later and in a different color.

My model is listed in the table, but the year isn't: can I install it anyway?

No. The kit is designed for the geometry of a specific handlebar, and the same motorcycle may have a different handlebar from one year to the next: in that case, a different Barkbusters code is required. For the XTZ 660 Ténéré, the manufacturer lists BHG-019 from 2008 onward. If your year is not covered, send us the model and registration year and we will check the correct code.

What protective plastics can I mount on this structure?

The manufacturer states four series: JET, VPS, STORM, and CARBON. The EGO models are not compatible because they use a dedicated structure. Each series differs in shape, coverage, and weight, not in how it attaches to the bar.

Are the handlebar weights included in the kit?

Yes. Barkbusters states that the bar-end weights are included with this part number, which is different from most bike-specific kits, where the original ones must be reused or purchased separately.

Do I need to reuse the motorcycle's original handlebar weights?

No. The structure attaches to the end of the handlebar, so the standard bar-end weights must be removed, and the kit includes its own. Keep them anyway; you’ll need them if you ever restore the motorcycle to its original configuration.

Is it also suitable for the R 1150 GS Adventure?

Yes. The manufacturer lists the R 1100 GS, R 1150 GS, and R 1150 GS Adventure under the same code, with no year restrictions, because they share the same handlebar geometry.

Does it fit a pre-2008 XTZ 660 Ténéré?

The manufacturer states that the XTZ 660 Ténéré is compatible from 2008 onward and does not extend compatibility to earlier model years. We do not expand compatibility beyond what Barkbusters declares: if you have an older Ténéré, contact us before ordering.

Do I need to modify or drill the handlebars?

No. The kit is designed for the original handlebar of these motorcycles and installs with the supplied hardware: a clamp on the straight section and an anchor at the end. The manufacturer describes the installation as simple and does not require modifications to the motorcycle.

I installed an aftermarket handlebar: is the kit suitable?

Barkbusters states compatibility for motorcycles in their original factory configuration. With an aftermarket handlebar, the diameter, wall thickness, and length may differ, so the fitment must be checked before purchase: in that case, a universal kit selected based on the diameter is often the right choice.

What exactly is included in the package?

The two heat-treated aluminum bars, clamps, complete hardware, and handlebar counterweights. There are no protective plastic parts: they are the item to pair with.

Are assembly instructions available?

Yes. The official Barkbusters INS-BHG-019-NP instructions are attached to this product page, in the Manufacturer documents section, with the assembly sequence and warnings.

What is the difference between two attachment points and a single point?

These are two configurations that the manufacturer distinguishes and does not combine. The two attachment points, as in this kit, secure the bar both at the end of the handlebar and to the straight section, and are intended for impact protection. The single attachment point is intended only for protection from wind and the elements.
