The top-of-the-range setup for the BMW R 1300 GS Adventure: a pair of 11,900-lumen D7 PRO lights, model-specific mounts, and a dedicated CANsmart GEN II controller.

The D7 PRO has two independent circuits in the same housing — a central flood beam and an outer spot beam, both dimmable — and the controller uses them for different purposes: separate central visibility beams on the left and right, synchronized with the turn signals, and an outer white circuit linked to the high and low beams. The X-Lens covers can be swapped using the quick-connect system, and the kit includes clear, amber, and yellow lenses.

On the R 1300 GS, the preconfigured pairing is even more important: the controller plugs into the six-pin DWA anti-theft connector, which differs from the RDC connector used on previous generations, so it is not interchangeable. The configuration uses three of the four circuits, leaving one free.

A chi allestisce la R 1300 GS Adventure, la moto più recente della gamma, e vuole partire con l'illuminazione già risolta. Su un modello appena uscito trovare da soli il supporto e la centralina giusti è la parte più facile da sbagliare: qui sono già quelli del modello.

I D7 PRO danno 11.600 lumen per faretto su due circuiti indipendenti — flood e spot separati, comandati dal manubrio — e le tre lenti X-Lens sono comprese.

Se la tua è la R 1300 GS senza Adventure, i supporti sono diversi: c'è il kit dedicato.

The D7 PRO has two independent circuits in the same housing. In this kit, the control unit keeps them separate: the central visibility optics, split between right and left, flash in sync with the original indicators, while the outer white circuit follows the high and low beams at the intensity you set.

During the day, you remain visible and signal turns; at night, you have 11,900 lumens per spotlight and a range of 380 meters.

The control unit plugs into the 6-pin DWA anti-theft connector under the rear seat: a different connection point from that of the R 1200 and R 1250, which use the 4-pin RDC connector. The control units are not interchangeable.

There is also a protection feature that the others do not have: with the ignition on but the engine stopped, the auxiliary lights remain off; they activate after two seconds of stable engine speed and stay on for five seconds after the stop button is pressed. This is not a fault.

The standard configuration uses three of the four circuits on the control unit. The fourth remains available, already wired and already paid for: when you want to add a SoundBomb horn, a B6 brake light, or the T3 rear pods, you won't need to change the control unit or add relays.

Each circuit supports 10 A continuously and can be reassigned using the CANsmart Accessory Manager software.

Is it better than buying the pieces separately?

Yes, on the price, but above all on the risk. A lighting setup on a GS brings together three things that need to match: the auxiliary lights, the correct mounts for that model, and the right control unit for that year. Getting one of them wrong means sending the package back and starting over. They’re already matched in the kit.

What difference does having the CANsmart in the kit make?

You control the spotlights using the buttons already on your handlebar, without adding switches. On BMWs, adjustment is done via the Wonder Wheel, and the control unit connects to the diagnostic socket without altering the original wiring. That’s the difference between an accessory that’s installed and one that’s integrated.

Can I assemble it myself?

Yes, if you’re comfortable with basic mechanics: there’s no need to cut or splice wires; everything plugs into the original connectors. Allow yourself a relaxed afternoon the first time, especially to route the wiring neatly under the tank.

I installed the JADO S6 on my BMW GS (non-"dedicated" version), and although I don't use the BMW base, the display and features are still top notch.
