All you need to know before ordering

Technical specifications, equipment, delivery, and warranty: find every detail, verified against official LOBOO documentation, below.

Description Exhaust Deflector for BMW R 1300 GS and GS Adventure | protects cases and bags from heat

The exhaust deflector for the BMW R 1300 GS from 2023 onward and the R 1300 GS Adventure from 2024 onward attaches to the original muffler and redirects toward the rear the exhaust gases that the exhaust blows sideways, toward the pannier area. It weighs 28 g and can be installed without drilling.

Why you need it

On the R 1300 GS, the exhaust's sideways flow hits the side panniers directly. LOBOO identifies three consequences: the paint or film on aluminum panniers darkens and fades, soft bags deform or melt from the heat, and external accessories age prematurely.

How it works

The air duct, designed using data from the original muffler, collects the gas and directs it backward: the flow no longer blows onto hard panniers and soft bags, and heat does not build up in the luggage area, even on long trips.

Construction and installation

  • Deflector made of aluminum alloy with hard blasting and black anodizing
  • Stainless steel clamp around the muffler: no drilling, no cutting
  • Deflector 72.2 × 56.5 mm, clamp 60 × 69 mm (LOBOO's manual measurements)
  • It can be removed by loosening the clamp: the muffler remains original

With LOBOO pannier racks

If your R 1300 GS has the short exhaust and you install the side racks for R 1300 GS or the racks for R 1300 GS Adventure, LOBOO recommends pairing them with the deflector: it keeps the gases away from the panniers. If you are not sure which exhaust you have, contact us before ordering.

Before ordering

LOBOO states that it is compatible only with the original exhaust muffler of the R 1300 GS: it is not suitable for aftermarket exhausts.

You can find all accessories for the BMW R 1300 GS in the dedicated collection.

Why choose it
  • Protects luggage:deflects hot gases downward and backward, away from bags and suitcases.
  • Required on some versions:on R 1300 GS models with a short exhaust, it is necessary to install the pannier frames.
  • 28 grams:virtually no added weight.
  • No exhaust modification:stainless steel clamp, no drilling or cutting.
Who is it recommended for

Check before ordering frames or panniers

LOBOO documentation indicates that on the R 1300 GS and GS Adventure with a short exhaust, the installation of pannier racks requires the additional purchase of this deflector. If you have that version, include it in the same order.

For all other R 1300 GS models, it is still recommended:Direct heat softens straps and fabrics of soft bags, and leaves soot deposits on aluminum panniers.

Documents and manufacturer

Assembly and Notes

  • Compatible exclusively with the OEM exhaust terminal of the R 1300 GS: attachment to aftermarket exhausts is not guaranteed.
  • Install when the exhaust is cold: the exhaust tip reaches high temperatures.
  • Check the tightness of the clamp after initial use and periodically.
  • Does not alter the exhaust's homologation: no drilling or cutting of the original exhaust tip.

How does it work, in detail?

Deflects gas, protects luggage

Deflects gas, protects luggage

The deflector mounts onto the original exhaust tip of the R 1300 GS and redirects the exhaust's lateral flow, which would otherwise hit the pannier area.

LOBOO indicates three effects of hot gas on luggage: the paint or film on aluminum suitcases darkens and discolors, soft bags deform or melt, and external accessories age prematurely.

The duct collects the gas and directs it backward, away from suitcases and bags: heat does not build up in the luggage area, and the system remains stable even on long journeys.

The deflector is designed based on the original muffler’s specifications and tightens with a stainless steel clamp: no drilling, no modification to the exhaust structure.

Only with the original exhaust

Only with the original exhaust

LOBOO states that it is compatible only with this specific exhaust: the stock exhaust on the R 1300 GS and the R 1300 GS Adventure. It does not fit aftermarket exhausts.

FAQs

For more information, please see our FAQ.

Which motorcycles does it fit?

On the BMW R 1300 GS from 2023 and the R 1300 GS Adventure from 2024, always with the original exhaust silencer.

Is it compatible with an aftermarket exhaust?

No. LOBOO declares it compatible only with the specific original exhaust model of the R 1300 GS: on exhausts from other brands, the shape and mounting do not match.

What is the deflector used for?

On the R 1300 GS, the exhaust blows sideways toward the pannier area. LOBOO identifies three problems: the paint or film on aluminum panniers darkening, soft bags deforming or melting from the heat, and external accessories aging prematurely. The deflector redirects the flow toward the rear.

Is it used to mount the pannier frames on the R 1300 GS?

With the short LOBOO exhaust, LOBOO recommends pairing it with the side racks to keep the gases away from the cases. It is not a component of the racks: it is purchased separately. If you don't know which exhaust your R 1300 GS has, write to us before ordering.

How is it assembled?

It slips onto the original exhaust tip and is tightened with the included stainless-steel clamp. No drilling or cutting is required. Install it when the engine and exhaust are cold.

How much does it weigh?

28 grams, according to the LOBOO technical data sheet.

What material is it made of?

The deflector is made of aluminum alloy with a hard sandblasted finish and black anodization; the clamp is made of stainless steel.

What are the dimensions?

The deflector measures 72.2 mm in length and 56.5 mm in height; the clamp measures 60 × 69 mm overall. These are manual measurements provided by LOBOO, so slight deviations are possible.

Does it protect both hard-shell suitcases and soft bags?

Yes. By diverting the gas toward the rear, the flow no longer hits panniers or soft bags directly: LOBOO indicates it for both.

Does the exhaust change the sound or performance?

LOBOO does not claim any effects on sound or performance. It states that the duct is designed based on the original muffler’s data and can be installed without structural modifications: the exhaust remains intact, and the baffle can be removed by loosening the clamp.

Can it be removed?

Yes. Just loosen the clamp: the terminal is not modified.

What's in the package?

The deflector and the stainless steel clamp for attaching it to the muffler, as shown in the LOBOO panel.
