Description LOBOO CHG222 Crash Bars for KTM 790 and 890 Adventure and Husqvarna Norden 901 | High or low position with skid plate

The 790 and 890 Adventure are bikes you ride where you’re likely to fall: dirt tracks, rocky terrain, and slow, awkward uphill maneuvers. The LOBOO CHG222 system is modular for exactly this reason, letting you choose which areas to protect instead of selling you a one-size-fits-all kit.

The Upper configuration consists of a pair of upper high-strength steel tube bars: they protect the radiator and side fairings, the areas that make contact when the bike tips onto its side.

The Lower + Skid Plate configuration consists of a pair of lower bars plus an aluminum-alloy skid plate. It covers the engine cases and underside—protecting against impacts from below: a rock hitting the sump can end your trip on the spot. The plate features a CNC-machined perforated design that allows airflow and prevents engine heat from becoming trapped.

In both configurations, the structure is multi-point mounted: it bolts to the frame’s original mounting points, with no drilling or permanent modifications. The powder coating is available in black or KTM orange.

The two configurations can be purchased separately or combined for complete coverage. Each option already includes the right and left sides and the mounting hardware.

Why choose it
  • Protection on two fronts: steel bars against side impacts and rubbing, 4mm aluminum plate against blows from below.
  • Reinforced structure: the plate also anchors to the bars, distributing loads over multiple points.
  • Non-destructive assembly: original frame points, brackets and screws included, no permanent modifications.
  • Anti-corrosion finish: designed for mud, rain, and continuous off-road use.
  • Low weight: aluminum protects the lowest area without adding weight to the motorcycle where it matters most.
Who is it recommended for

This kit is the right choice if:

  • You go on ADV trips and ride on gravel roads where stones can fly up from below and a punctured oil pan ends your trip.
  • You use your motorcycle on uneven terrain with prolonged contact and repeated stress.
  • You want a single solution instead of buying separate crash bars and a skid plate and hoping they fit together.

If you have a Norden 901 and are only looking for stainless steel crash bars for the engine and side fairings, there is a dedicated product with a separate page: it covers a different area, and the two can be combined.

Documents and manufacturer

Documentation and assembly

  • Install on OEM frame points with included brackets and screws. Medium-strength threadlocker and cross-tightening according to manufacturer's specifications are recommended.
  • Recheck all fasteners after 100-200 km of use.
  • Once assembled, check for full steering range and proper cable routing.
  • Crash bars and engine guards are not approved safety devices and do not replace the rider's protective equipment.

How does it work, in detail?

Protect your motorcycle on two levels, choosing the one that suits you

Protect your motorcycle on two levels, choosing the one that suits you

The CHG222 is a modular system: the upper configuration protects the radiator and fairings, while the lower configuration adds the lower bars and skid plate covering the engine cases and underside.

The design starts from the motorcycle’s original mounting points, so installation requires no drilling or permanent modifications.

Look where the engine guard attaches

Look where the engine guard attaches

This is where it differs from just any skid plate: the plate is not attached only to the frame, but is also anchored to the lower bar with additional mounting points.

LOBOO states that this increases the rigidity of the assembly and distributes the impact instead of concentrating it on a few mounting points. That is why the two parts are often purchased together.

Replace only the damaged pad, not the plate

Replace only the damaged pad, not the plate

On the side of the engine guard, there are nylon and silicone sliders that absorb the impact in a fall. They are the part that wears out, and they are designed to do so.

The manufacturer states that they can be replaced individually: after a slide, you replace the marked slider instead of throwing away an entire engine guard.

Free up space for paramotor lights and bags

Free up space for paramotor lights and bags

The bars extend the protection upward and create useful space where there was none before: you can mount auxiliary lights or a paramotor bag for tools.

The main tube is Ø 25 mm, the standard size for crash bar bags. Lights, mounts, and bags are not included.

Install the spotlights in the pre-existing fixtures.

Install the spotlights in the pre-existing fixtures.

The bars feature built-in mounts for auxiliary lighting: no cable ties to tighten around the tube, and no universal brackets that rotate at the first pothole and misalign the beam.

The spotlights and their mounts are not included: they appear in the manufacturer's images for demonstration purposes.

Place 4 mm of aluminum between the pan and the stones

Place 4 mm of aluminum between the pan and the stones

The skid plate is made from 4 mm high-strength anodized aluminum alloy. On gravel roads, that is the thickness separating a bouncing stone from a punctured oil pan—and from a trip ending wherever you happen to be.

The CNC-machined perforated design allows air to flow through, so the guard does not trap engine heat.

Reduce vibrations and noise at the mounts

Reduce vibrations and noise at the mounts

The plate’s mounting points feature shock-absorbing rubber pads. They are not merely aesthetic: a plate rigidly bolted to the frame transmits every impact and, over time, puts stress on the holes.

LOBOO states that they reduce the transmitted impact force, as well as the metallic noise produced by bare sheet metal on uneven surfaces.

Stop the gravel before it reaches the casing

Stop the gravel before it reaches the casing

On gravel roads, damage rarely comes from a fall: it comes from stones kicked up by the front wheel, which repeatedly strike the engine base over many kilometers.

The plate covers the exposed area and deflects the gravel, preventing the engine casing from taking repeated impacts.

Find the screws even after a swipe

Find the screws even after a swipe

The screw seats are formed during molding and remain recessed in the plate, below the surface that touches the ground. The heads do not protrude and do not take the impact.

It is a detail you appreciate on disassembly day: a screw with a hex socket damaged by scraping can only be removed by cutting it.

Install without touching the frame

Install without touching the frame

LOBOO states that no modifications to the original vehicle are needed: the structure bolts onto the mounting points already provided on the frame, with no drilling or cutting.

On a motorcycle you plan to resell, that is the difference between an accessory and a permanent modification: it can be removed without leaving a trace.

These are the specifications provided by LOBOO, which states that they were measured manually and acknowledges a reasonable margin of error.

Evaluate the clearance on the completed motorcycle

Evaluate the clearance on the completed motorcycle

Before ordering, look at the fully assembled motorcycle. LOBOO installation images show the kit mounted together with side panniers and a top case: they help you understand how far the bars protrude and how they fit alongside the pannier racks.

The lights, mounts, bags, and cases visible in the photos are not included: LOBOO specifies that the images are for demonstration purposes only.

Add inflatable bags to your crash bars

Add inflatable bags to your crash bars

The bars you’re about to install do more than just protect: they’re already the ready-made mounting points for LOBOO Wanderer inflatable bags. A pair of 6-liter bags, each waterproof to IPX7, with keyed anti-theft locks and a stated capacity of 300 kg per inflated bag.

They inflate when you set off and deflate when you return: carry what you need without installing frames or leaving permanent bulk along the side of the motorcycle. Make use of the Ø 25 mm tube you already have and go fully equipped.

FAQs

For more information, please see our FAQ.

Which models and years does the CHG222 cover?

LOBOO lists this as compatible with the KTM 790 Adventure S and R from 2024, the KTM 890 Adventure from 2023, and the Husqvarna Norden 901 from 2023. The same code was previously used for an earlier series intended for the 790 Adventure from 2018: if you have a first-generation 790, contact us before ordering so we can verify the frame mounts together.

Is it also compatible with the Husqvarna Norden 901?

Yes, the kit is designed for the KTM 790 and 890 Adventure, including the R versions depending on the variant, and for the Norden 901. Select the correct version for your model and year. If you are looking for just the stainless-steel crash bar for the Norden, it is a separate product with its own dedicated page.

What material are the bars and the skid plate made of?

LOBOO states that it uses high-strength steel bars and a 4 mm anodized aluminum-alloy skid plate. This product code is not made of stainless steel: AISI 304 applies to other crash bars in the LOBOO range and should not be attributed to the CHG222.

Is the engine guard plate really 4 mm thick?

Yes. The engine guard is made of 4 mm-thick aluminum alloy and paired with lower high-strength steel crash bars. The plate is also anchored to the bars: this multiple connection is what stiffens the structure at the extended mounting points.

Can I install only the upper bar without the lower one?

Yes, the upper bar can also be installed on its own. Keep in mind what you lose: in that configuration, the lower part of the engine and the sump remain exposed, and the skid plate also mounts to the lower bar, so it is intended for use with the complete kit. If your goal is to protect the engine from gravel, you need the lower configuration with the skid plate.

Does installation require drilling holes or cutting the motorcycle?

No. It installs on the original frame mounting points using the included brackets and hardware. We recommend medium-strength threadlocker, tightening in a cross pattern to the manufacturer's torque specifications, and checking the fasteners again after 100–200 km.

Is it necessary to recheck the tightening after installation?

Yes. After the first 100–200 km, recheck all the bolts at the torque specifications provided by the motorcycle manufacturer, and repeat the check after every demanding off-road ride or after a fall. A loose engine guard does not work properly and can mark the frame at the contact points.

Does a paramotor really prevent injuries in the event of a fall?

A crash bar reduces damage; it does not eliminate it. It distributes contact across structural points of the frame and keeps the engine covers away from the asphalt, but the outcome depends on speed, angle, and surface. LOBOO does not publish load tests for this code, so we do not state impact-resistance thresholds.

Is the product covered by a warranty?

Yes: all LOBOO products sold on Endurrad are covered by the 24-month statutory consumer warranty. In the event of a lack of conformity, we will handle the claim with the manufacturer.

Can I return the product if it isn’t suitable?

Yes: you have 14 days from receiving the last item in the order to exercise your right of withdrawal. The product must be intact and in its original packaging: contact us and we will guide you through the process.

How does shipping work?

Tracked shipping, free for orders over €100 in Italy and over €250 in Europe. The product is inspected and prepared before leaving our warehouse; brackets and hardware included in the original equipment are included.

Can I pay in installments?

Yes: at checkout, installment payment services are available directly among the payment methods, with no additional paperwork.

Is it an original LOBOO product?

Yes: we sell exclusively original LOBOO products, new and in the packaging provided by the manufacturer, with official documentation.
